The article was written in the very well respected danish newspaper Berlingske ( a danish The Times..)
I guess you don’t believe the story about the young german girl, then?

And newspapers never lie….
yeah I believe that story because I saw actual evidence of it online, so you honestly believe the spitting story seems likely as it’s written? I’m not even saying it didn’t happen but perhaps it was children doing it, not that it’s better but it certainly different.

nothing of substance. If you think a group of grown men are just spitting on a child and nobody is doing anything to stop that you’re in a dream land.

I’ll be brutally honest, I don’t care what a few England fans did at Wembley and it’s not affecting my enjoyment of the tournament. It’s what happens on the pitch that is important to me.

Most of my Welsh colleagues and friends are supporting Italy on Sunday because it’s cultural here to hate England and it’s something I’ve never gotten my head around in 20 years of living here. I just hope we win otherwise I’m going to get it rubbed in my face so much lol.

That’s so true. But I always support the Welsh, Scottish and Irish unless they are playing us. But I believe their hatred of the English runs deep.

Why do these games have to start so late? 6 and a half hours to go and I’m already thinking about little else. Knots in my stomach. Can’t concentrate. Hurry up already!
Chill. You will have enough time for the knots in the stomach and stress when the game goes 90 minutes and then to extra time and penalties....................

So, Leo Messi finally wins a major trophy with Argentina - and what is sweeter from their point of view is that they beat Brazil in the final, in the Maricana. A tense, if not terribly exciting Copa America final, with the single goal scored being a superb lob by Di Maria. Messi picked up an injury in the tournament and was not fit, but played the full 90 anyway. He would have wanted to have played a more influential role but he will be satisfied to have finally taken some honors in his national colors.

If I were Welsh/Scottish/Irish I'd almost certainly be rooting against England too.

He just needs to play for a club outside of Spain now in either Italy or England. Let’s see him challenge himself and put those amazing skills on show in a faster league.

Right, I rooted for all home countries during the tournament was even happy we didn't beat Scotland fair play they put up a hell of a fight. Watching Bale for Wales dupe the opposition twice at a corner leading to a goal the second attempt was amazing. I cheered really loud when that went in. Come on lets support the home nations people.

Because of why?

I support all home nations unless they are playing against each other. I suppose perhaps it’s because England is the biggest of the four nations and it’s deeply cultural.
It’s because we are the ruling nation. As such we get to pay for our own prescriptions, tuition fees and get to appease people who are always looking to feather their own nest! We get it so good!

Come on England. Just three hours to go. Did I mention Mrs AFB is half Italian?

Because of long histories of conquest and political repression/inequality. To some that's ancient history or has no place in sport, to others it's an integral part of their identity that will never be forgotten. Your approach is perfectly valid, but so is theirs.

Just the sort of 'politics' UEFA is trying (and failing) to stamp out. ;)

It would be interesting. But he's too old now, and too expensive. That move would have had to happen years ago.

Yeah I don’t care for all that personally. I think the rivalry where I live is simply based on the complex reasoning that ‘their Dad told them to hate England’ and it’s pushed very much by the Welsh tabloid media lol. I ignore all that though generally.

Indeed and sadly for an amazing player he’ll always have that question hanging over him. He should have bitten the bullet and moved 5 years ago.

A lot of that seems to just be Daily Mail/ Daily Express saltiness though. There's plenty of legitimate reasons for someone from Scotland/ Wales to be supporting Italy tonight (family/friendship connections, holiday memories, fans of individual players or Italian teams). And even when it is 'anyone but England' it seems pretty skin deep/ in good humour generally:

OK now you can start the stress, shaking, pacing around, headaches and whatever Apple Fanboy. Starting line up will do a job but strategic substitutes many win the game. Let's start solid and build on it.

As for the partisan view I get it. There was a wall built between us and the Scots, and then their is the history with the Welsh and Irish. Despite my tongue in cheek view we should all support the home nations it will never happen. Look at the club level for goodness sake. Millwall and West Ham all the violence and hatred over crossing a docks picket line further back in history than any of todays thugs can remember, not even born actually. Don't get me started on Celtic and Glasgow Rangers hatred due to religion. Man this world is messed up!
