We face Newcastle today. They’ve bought well. We’ve bought no one. Not feeling optimistic at all this season. Feel like I’m hoping for 17th right from the start.

A hell of a match at Anfield. Two pressing sides going full speed at each other. Seven goals, many more chances, two penalties...great stuff. Liverpool just managed to do enough to earn the win but Leeds played some wonderful football and had they drawn I would not have disagreed with the result.

Liverpool's defense will be scrutinized by the next week's worth of punditry but I think a lot of their mistakes were as much down to Leeds' excellent pressing as anything - still, I am sure Klopp will take a dim view of the errors. All three of Leeds' goals were very nicely taken. Salah buried two penalties but his goal from open play was an absolute thunderbolt.

I really hope we see this every week from Leeds, they might not have a star-studded squad but their manager is the main man. Liverpool have a couple challenging matches ahead against Chelsea and Arsenal; if they can grab four points from those I'd consider it an excellent start to the campaign.

I put Klich in my fantasy squad and he only goes and scores against Liverpool! Unfortunately I only signed up today so I don't get points till next week.

Nice first game by Arsenal. More of the same please. Gabriel is the real deal, isn't he?

Yes, he is, as is Willian.
It was only newly promoted Fulham but they did look good.

Yes, it "was only newly promoted Fulham", and stiffer tests lie ahead, but, what I liked was the fact that there were no silly errors, no stupidity, or sleepiness and no awful lapses or lack of concentration in defence, instead, the team was focussed and professional and competent for the entire game.

A win is a win. Three points to the good will help with your push for a Europa spot later on in the year.

Things got spicy in France, where massive overdogs PSG lost 0-1 to Marseille in a game that saw FIVE payers sent off in an explosive finale...that's two losses in a row for PSG to start the Ligue 1 season.

What an extraordinary ending to a game; PSG flatter to deceive and their dominance (although that may now be called increasingly into question) in the French domestic league has masked their inadequacies which are dramatically and starkly exposed in the latter stages of European competitions.

I read that piece.

Indeed, I do wonder whether this is the beginning of the (almost inevitable) Mourinho pattern of the souring of the atmosphere and relations at Spurs, with the team and the staff.

I remember the dramatic deterioration of relations and the souring of the atmosphere during his last season of his second period in charge at Chelsea - which started, punctually, during the very first game of the season, actually, the curtain raiser, the Charity Shield.

Joe Mourinho was not best pleased.

Trouble is some other team will find him employment when it does all blow up in his face.

Hm, perhaps.

But, how many bridges can he burn?

Or, rather, how many bridges can he burn and still remain employable?

Leaving aside character, is he still professional relevant at the top level, in terms of tactical innovation, or even in terms of keeping abreast of tactical innovation in the game, or is he approaching obsolescence, and running the risk of appearing to be "yesterday's man" in terms of how the game has evolved?

He has worked with Manchester United, Chelsea (twice), and now, Spurs, - and that is only in England - and, with the exception of his early days in Portugal, almost every job has ended in anguish and explosively and with considerable rancour.

My only question was when (not if) this predictable pattern of behaviour would begin to emerge with Spurs.
