United rescued in added time by some brilliance from Lingard and Ronaldo. 3 points and David De Gea's brilliance in goal mask a multitude of sins, including some awful play from Diego Dalot. UEFA added an additional match to Wan-Bissaka's ban, so he will also miss out against Atalanta. United should consider switch to a back three for that one.

Juve only had 26% possession against Chelsea, but still managed to prevail, 1-0.

Barcelona... bloody hell. Surely Koemon is gone after that result. Not that his dismissal alone will solve the myriad issues they have.

If you're going to paper over some cracks, it's hard to do better than a goal-a-game player like Ronaldo...this was another one of those wins OGS always seems to get just when we think his managerial career at Man Utd might be edging towards the point of no return. Ole In?

Koeman is surely gone very soon. But firing him is really irrelevant in terms of what is going on with Barca right now. The club has been run into the ground and no manager can do anything meaningful about that. 'Dumpster fire' was almost coined with this affair in mind. The state of affairs shows how Real Madrid truly have an endless collection of financial smoke generators and mirrors - even more so than Barca. They seem just as badly run as Barca but always seem to be able to magic up the money they need to keep on spendin'.

Columbus 2-0 Cruz Azul

In spite of their wretched form of late, Columbus beat Liga MX champions Cruz Azul to take the Campeones Cup (MLS league champions vs Liga MX combined champions). Our new stadium hosts its first non-league game and witnesses its first cup win.

Exactly right. Any new manager coming in would just be a caretaker, watching over an uncontrollable dumpster fire until it burns down to a more manageable size. Xavi will no doubt come back home at some point, but it's highly advisable for him to stay far away for now.

Some exciting results in the Championship today!
High-flying Coventry being pummeled at the hands of 17th Placed Luton!
Derby taking out Reading and Fulham and Forest both scoring 3 goals on the way to wins. Fulham's three all scored by Mitrovic.

Luton are a very good side. Don't fall asleep on them!

They should just stick with Koeman, but they won't because they'll want to be seen to be 'doing something' about the results. Of course the best thing they could have done is not mismanage the club for years prior, but it's too late for that now.

No manager of sound mind would touch that club at the moment. But there's always going to be a nutter somewhere willing to give it a go.

Chelsea looked very labored against Southampton, the red card was a big gift for them...that was absolutely heading for a draw and you know it was a lucky win because Werner scored. ;)

Everton going to OT was a banker for Man Utd even taking their current struggles into account, or so I thought. OGS will generate headlines whenever he tries to manage Ronaldo's minutes, as happened here. Townsend has been a frustratingly inconsistent player for years now but today he managed a good finish to cap an incisive Everton counterattack for the equalizer.

Brighton are outplaying Arsenal. But they are failing to finish their chances...the Gunners should be losing this but have been let off the hook several times now.

EDIT: Arsenal were lucky to get away with a draw, it wasn't a completely terrible performance but they were second-best most of the match. Brighton fans will be so frustrated their team can't finish the many chances they create...on current form, with a lethal striker like a Lukaku or Salah they'd be top of the table and might have won all their games so far.

Elsewhere, Barca go down limply away to an admittedly very good Atleti side. The dumpster continues to burn.

Agreed, Arsenal were fortunate to come away with a point, but I will say that they did not concede a goal, and that I am of the opinion that the recruitment of Ramsdale (mind you, we should never have sold Martínez) between the posts has improved matters considerably; it is not just that he is an excellent shot-stopper, but that he also takes command of the defence.

Chelsea win!

I love to beat Man City but a draw is still a good result for Liverpool. For a bit Man City looked like they might have the upper hand and I had a sinking feeling, but 'Pool stepped it up and despite getting pegged back twice they kept at it till the end. Both teams came close to winning it late. Man City are the richest team out there and they are favorites in every game, so taking points off them is always a positive result for any other team. And, with all due respect to City fans, I don't fear going to their house at all, so I think Liverpool will have just as good a chance (injuries permitting) in the return fixture. Especially if Pep does any of his trademark tinkering next time.

Milner was a bit out of his depth trying to play as a right back in this match, which is no shame on him given the level of play. He could have been sent off, but he wasn't, and Liverpool just about got away with having a utility player in that position. Had Trent been healthy would Liverpool have won this match? Maybe, but it still would have been very close I'm sure.

Tuchel will be smiling the biggest today, but while I still have Chelsea as favorites we are looking at a good three-way competition at the top so far. But the season is young.

Salah is hands-down the best forward on the planet right now. His goal was simply superb.

Disappointed to drop points at home to Brentford. But they are this years surprise package. Still never good to lose a match in the 94th minute.

Brentford are a horrible team to play against, I think they are going to be behind a lot of upset results this season.

Just watched the highlights. Liverpool were very lucky to not have been down to 10 men. Clearly you had 12 on the pitch with the ref! But agree Salah is world class. He can create a goal out of nothing.

Gutted that JWP dived in like that, but if it was the other way around, I am not sure a Chelsea player would have seen red.
With that said, Saints need to find a way of winning games instead of playing as well as their opponents in the first two thirds of the pitch and failing to score in the final third.
The return of Stu Armstrong may help with service to the strikers but our attack is toothless.

A lucky escape, but luckily the only team that suffered was Man City so we can all agree that's OK. Surely the ref's mistake was worth it just to see Pep detonate on the sidelines?

Ouch! The banter is flying thick and heavy in here today.

Love or hate City and Liverpool, but that was a top class match. Even Chelsea is not at the level of those two teams, at least not yet.

I'm just on repeat about United here: the central midfield is awful, Ole makes weird substitutions, they should never be dropping points at home to an Everton squad missing DCL and Richarlison, etc. etc. After this international break, the schedule only gets harder.
