Amazing start from Newcastle but pretty predictable after that.
I hope Wilson can be the catalyst we need to at least keep within touching distance until January.
We could do with Willock hitting last seasons form soon.

As an England fan it was good to see Kane get a good goal, would just have preferred it to have been a week later.

That's the real problem. Not a lot of appealing options available right now. The biggest names sitting on the sidelines are Zidane, who is more likely to take the France job, and Conte, whose style of football is a poor fit for United. Lucien Favre? Meh. ten Hag at Ajax is an interesting option, but bringing him in as a midseason replacement seems very unlikely.
I hear Steve Bruce may soon be available...

Well, on slightly lighter note, at least I had a little something to smile about this weekend, with Saints picking up a win against Leeds.
First win of the season, but again, we outplayed our opponents and struggled to get the ball in the net.
I do wonder what the answer is for a club like Southampton. We don't have oodles of cash, so can't buy a proven goal scorer at GBP80-200M, but have plenty of creative midfielders who can't or don't score.
We're not alone in the Prem, either - plenty of clubs that have Championship-grade strikers who struggle at this level.

I love Steve Bruce.

He made Wednesday much better.

Atletico Madrid 2-3 Liverpool

This match played out pretty much as I expected - tense, hard-fought, a battle between two very different (but effective) philosophies, and with the result turning on a couple key moments. Only the result was a pleasant surprise.

I'll have to rewatch the Gimenez penalty no-call but if the ref VAR'd it on the monitor it's not the result of him missing anything, but a question of interpretation. The Hermoso penalty call was as obvious a foul as you'll ever see.

Atleti have broken Liverpool's hearts before so an away win against them is always very satisfying. But it was impressive to see how good they were even a man down. A terrible side to play against.

Bruce has officially gone. He was always on to a hiding to nothing following up Rafa. The fact he’s one of us yet was willing to become the face of the regime while others begrudgingly walked away never did him any favours.

A good turnaround for Man Utd. But can they replicate that in the PL? I say Ole will be gone before Christmas. Then they can bring in Steve Bruce. He’s got nothing better to do than count his £8 million from Newcastle.

Nice work if you can get it!
Ole always gets a big feel-good win when his job is on the line. It's eerie.

1-1 draw with your guys last night.

I should have gone to this one. The league I play in went but I was worn out from work. :(
Nashville are just really hard to score against. Columbus almost did enough for a big road win but our defending let us down again at a key moment. Having our manager out with a positive COVID test (he is vaccinated), didn't help, of course, but they came close. Zelaryan looked very frustrated at the final whistle.

At this point I expect nothing more from this season, even if a playoff spot is still possible. We won a cup against a Liga MX team, which, given our inconsistent form, is a real achievement.
