I recall the years I lived there. I needed an interpreter for the first three months!
Mind you I was talking to a German colleague this morning and he used the word dodgey in the right context. I thought it was hilarious!

Dodgy is a wonderful word - it conveys so much.

Meanwhile, Newcastle seem to have secured the services of Eddie Howe, though this has yet to be finalised.

Columbus will clinch a berth in the Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs IF:
  1. Columbus win vs. Chicago AND
  2. New York lose vs. Nashville AND
  3. Montréal lose or tie vs. Orlando AND
  4. D.C. lose or tie vs. Toronto AND
  5. Columbus win goal differential vs. New York [7 goal difference]

So we need to beat Chicago with a +7 goal difference and hope three other teams duff it. Easy peasy then.... :(

At the risk of bringing wrath of the Sky showmen down on my head, the Manchester Derby was kind of boring. Man Utd were bad and lost, City were good and won, but not a whole lot happened.

Man City are sorely in need of a finisher. They have great multipurpose players but all the fizzing and pinging of balls in the Man Utd area resulted in just two goals - not really reflective of their control of the match. De Bruyne and Sterling are no longer in form/favor and they have contributed a lot of goals in the past. Against Aston Villa it won't matter, but in the Champions League it will.

As for Man Utd, everything has already been said. The back three and back four seem equally ineffective, though Maguire's (and the whole backline's) non-existent current form may have much to do with that.

As a Liverpool fan I'd like to see Ole at the wheel for years, but surely the Glazers are realizing by now that their Manchester Football Experience Brand needs some football success to continue to be profitable. Maybe they can rotate one Manchester United Legend through as 'Guest Manager' each month. I kid.

Man Utd on paper should be a good side. So many good players. But together, it just doesn't click. Is that the ego's, the manager or something else? Well I don't think it will be long until we get an answer on the new manager situation. I can't see Ole being at the Man Utd Christmas party this year.

They're still in 5th, of course. The club is too big to fail - the individual talent alone is immense.

You could probably have no manager or pick a player-manager from the squad, and they'd still finish 6th by dint of sheer individual talent. They'd never win anything, but they'd never get relegated either.

Sadly. To see one of the greedy six relegated. That’s the dream of the country.

I think it is time for Ole to go, the team needs a new direction.

At some point they do need to do something, and if they continue to lose (in the manner they did against Leicester, Liverpool and today) it might actually happen before Christmas (giving a new manager the benefit of a whole transfer window in January).

On the other hand, if they beat Watford and Villareal, and then go on to beat Chelsea and Arsenal, I think Ole is safe for the rest of the season...at least.

The biggest problem for Man Utd - as I see it - is securing a considerably better manager. It's not enough to get someone slightly better, they need someone to rival Guardiola, Klopp, Tuchel and Conte. Is there anyone like that available? I'm not considering Zidane, who - despite three Champions League in a row - is probably not the best manager for anyone else than Real.

Edit: On the other hand, if they take Benitez off our hands I'll be more than happy... :p

Yes, but their recent form has been atrocious.

The issue here is not lack of individual talent, - or, outrageously talented individuals - but the failure to somehow blend that individual talent into a collective, into a team.

Manchester United - incredibly and inexplicably - are a team that are somehow less than the sum of their whole.

And, worse, despite Ronaldo's undoubted prodigious gifts, his purchase - and arrival - has further unbalanced an already notoriously unblended team.
The Manchester Derby might have been the headliner, but in terms of league happenings two other matches were more significant, with Norwich actually winning a football match and Chelsea dropping points.

Agreed.

The Chelsea match was interesting.
I think it is time for Ole to go, the team needs a new direction.

But, that is the problem, @JamesMike: They are not a team; they are a collection of outrageously talented and gifted individuals who have yet to forge some sort of collective identity.

Contrast them with - let us say, to take a few examples - Burnley, or Leeds, or Leicester - all of which have an admirable "all for one and one for all" mindset, once they take to the football pitch, teams where the sum of the parts comprises an impressive whole, one that is considerably greater than the sum of the individual parts.
Agreed. But the problems at Utd predate his time in charge. Just hope you don’t want Moyes back!

Agreed.

I'm pleasantly surprised!
Hadn’t seen this, always brings a smile to my face seeing them getting pumped.

The recent Sunderland documentaries have been great viewing though.

They’re that good I actually feel sorry for them watching.

Anyway looks like Eddie Howe is getting the newcastle job. He’s not got the fashionable name but I think it’s a good appointment. The clubs in such poor shape on every front we need someone to help build us up. Who knows maybe he can become a fashionable name with us.
People say getting relegated with Bournemouth is a mark against his name but in my eyes it doesn’t diminish the fact he got Bournemouth to the premier league in the first place.

I’ve never understood this. When a Championship manager takes a team to the PL who has no right to be there, they get relegated the following year with no real investment and they sack the manager. What were they expecting?

He took them from league 1 to 5 years in the premier league.
The fact is three teams have to go down every year an Bournemouth we’re always going to be the sort of team in and about it, even if they had better seasons.
Newcastle have been the same for a long time now. If he was German had come 7th in the Bundesliga people would be much more excited.

Agreed. I think he’ll do a job at Newcastle, but you feel they will already be looking for their next manager pretty soon.

IMHO, He ran out of talent/money at Bournemouth.

IMHO, he was one of the best gaffers in the Prem while he was up there.

I desperately wanted WEDNESDAY to hire him but I knew he was to smart to go with us.

He'll have all the money he'll need to keep them competitive now, so who knows?

It depends how he goes I guess. All the big names had to become big names somewhere.
I’m not saying he will be the next big thing but I’m happy to see where the ride takes us.
Indeed. I wasn’t thinking Moyes was the manager we wanted for his second stint, but I was so wrong. He’s really doing the business. Hope we can stop Salah today. But he always does well against us.
