A great performance from Leicester sees them beat Liverpool 1-0. They worked so hard to try and absorb 'Pool's press and be a threat on the break, and it payed off. Brendy Rogers did his homework. Liverpool did not play badly and were unlucky not to score at least two (you just can't legislate for Salah missing a penalty). But Trent had an off-day and I think we are just seeing fatigue creeping in, in the form of a certain lack of sharpness. On the upside, Virgil looked remarkably good despite just coming back from COVID.

Ultimately though, and not to take anything away from Leicester, it was a lucky result for them. Salah missed a penalty and Liverpool left numerous chances begging. On virtually any other day that's a Liverpool win. And, unfortunately for Leicester, the last three matches have seen them run their team ragged and pick up some serious injuries. They can't afford that if they hope to win something or even qualify for Europe. They got a win here, but at what cost? Maddison and Vardy are both in the red zone physically and close to joining an already long injury list.

Man City continue to roll on largely unchecked though...I fear that if the points gap widens much more (and, frankly, it will unless Manchester City start dropping points), the 'title race' could be petering out within the next month. It's no coincidence that the team with the biggest, deepest squad are suffering least from the fixture list/pandemic.

Chelsea are not playing great right now but I don't feel confident about facing them next. Luckily it's not me, but Jurgen Klopp, who is running the show at Anfield, because he is not easily discouraged.

Leicester have been underperforming for a while, and on their day can produce a good result. I’m off to watch the highlights in a bit.

Strangely, these are the same teams that have a jolly good whinge about fixture congestion, too...

Currently watching Chelsea vs Brighton - a very lively game and one that could go either way...but more injuries seem to be cropping up, so this could be a disaster for The Blues.

Good to see Brighton pick up a deserved point. But really only helps City.

Watching Man City win today just gave me that sinking feeling. Hugely deep, vastly expensive squad…How do you compete with that?
Welcome how most clubs view you! Being the third or fourth richest club in the country?
Like the rest of us you compete by building a good strong team spirit, bringing through talented youngsters and bringing in unknown players with the right temperament (not just skilful players).
Then on your day you can go out and beat any side.

And for those clubs with very little cash, we find those bargains or youth players, develop them, turn them into Premier League quality players and then sell them off to said rich clubs, before their contracts expire, so we can start the cycle all over again. And again. And again. And again...

United played a pretty good half of football against visiting Burnley, aside from some more lax defending leading to a goal by... Aaron Lennon!?

Some progress made in understanding what Rangnick wants them to do, a lot more work remains to be done.

Occasionally, you can get older players who fell out of favour, or didn't fit, for a variety of reasons, (or, who weren't preferred, or rated, or liked, or respected by, a newly appointed manager, or, who didn't fit a team or a system), or, who had suffered serious or persistent injuries that may have derailed their careers, and who may feel that they have a point to prove.

In the right managerial hands, such potentially unpromising players can prove to be an absolute godsend, - especially when surrounded by youngsters, - and are often highly motivated, grateful for a proverbial second chance and vastly experienced.

Indeed. But for everyone of those that works out, 5 don’t! Freddie Lindbergh I’m thinking of you!

That is all too true.

But, when they do work out, - granted, a gamble - they can be a superb asset to a team.
Indeed. This one comes to mind!

I am not complaining for my own sake, mind you - but the reality is the 'competition' takes place mostly off the pitch, in the world of finance.

Seems like Arsenal had some bad luck against City. Inconsistent VAR yet again. But few would have expected any result for them today.
Meanwhile Spurs left it very late to score (96th minute). But three points is three points. Hopefully we can get a win against Palace to stay in touch.
Come on you Irons.

Arsenal deserved a draw. Rotten luck and against a team who don’t need any luck.

Great goal from Saka for Arsenal. Didn’t like seeing him hugging fans though. There is a pandemic on.
They really should have got something from this game looking at the referring decisions. But that’s the way it goes.
To my mind, Arsenal deserved a draw at the very least fro this fixture.

An excellent performance undone by inconsistent VAR and - an old and tired failing - a few moments of red misted lunacy on the part of a few Arsenal players.

Chelsea is playing erratic but that style helped them survive the 1st half.
should be a great 2nd half!
