Spurs are the most inconsistent team of the season. Ronaldo is Ronaldo...individually brilliant but, I would argue, still not what Man Utd need right now. You can't rely on Cristiano to score a hat trick every match, but you should be able to rely on Maguire and Co to not be giving up more than one goal per game on average.

This result is good news for Arsenal in more ways than one, but it still keeps the race for fourth pretty darn tight between four teams, and Wolves are not quite out of it either.
I can't see Arsenal loosing it. But are Chelsea going to keep hold of third? The way things have gone this week, its hard to say what could happen.

I’m hoping palace can complete the league double over city next week. ?

Come on you eagles!!!

Going to be a interesting race for the top 4, arsenal have a lot of games in hand.

Spurs still flatter to deceive. They tend to play well to a point, but can never get over the hump. Like PSG choking in the Champions League, it's something you can rely on, year after year.

And then there are things you can't rely on, like Harry Maguire. He simply can't start for United if they're serious about competing for trophies.

Ronaldo, though. Doing what he does at age 37, still incredibly impressive.
Spurs are totally reliant on Kane and Son to win matches. Without them they'd be nowhere. Neither they nor Man Utd have the ability to reliably control matches and defend for 90 minutes. Both clubs' best performances have been the result of individual moments of brilliance more than collective organization.

I do wonder if Maguire is up to the job. He gets an awful lot of criticism but maybe Man Utd just overpaid for a good but not-quite-elite-level defender. In which case the blame is more on the club than the player.

Leeds with a crucial late winner against a hapless Norwich, and Everton lose again. They are now level on points with third bottom Watford, who won today…it’s a real relegation scrap!

The Hammers manage a narrow win over Villa to keep their top four campaign going.

Newcastle’s streak ends too today. They might be on a rising trajectory it they are still very much a work in progress.

Very happy to see West Ham win today. More so for Yamolenko to get the goal. He has had a lot to deal with at home for the last couple of weeks.
Of concern is Antonio going off injured. With him and Bowen out it will be a tough week. Europa league on Thursday, Spurs on Sunday.

A good, convincing win (a fifth consecutive victory) for Arsenal today - against Leicester - which brings the team to fourth place.
Arsenal are totally in the driver’s seat on champions league qualification. It’s theirs to lose now. Arsenal, for all their own faults, feel like more of a unit now than Spurs or Man Utd, even if they are perhaps comparatively light in firepower. All three teams are still probably lacking in some defensive steel, but Arsenal are on an upward trajectory.

I've seen it that way for a while. Even without the games in hand.

Man City still need to drop more points for Liverpool to overtake them, and 'Pool probably have to win at the Etihad later this season. So very much advantage Man City still, but they can't afford to coast to the title now. As I've said before, the challenge for Liverpool is that nothing short of perfection is likely to be good enough to beat City to first.

As for Salah's injury, Liverpool have good depth in attack and with Luiz Diaz off to a flying start at the club I don't think we will lack firepower against Arsenal. But I expect a tough match.

Your game against City is a real six pointer. Personally I’m not fussed which of you wins.
Although I’ll need you to beat Arsenal (sorry @Scepticalscribe). Just on the off chance we get some form at the end of the season.

Well, for this season - with the (obvious) exception of Arsenal, - I would like to see Liverpool challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title; indeed, I'd like to see them win it.

But, not, obviously, at the expense of Arsenal.

However, I am delighted to see City drop points against Palace; Viera is doing very well there, building a nice, elegant, difficult to defeat team, with a terrific team spirit.

He is doing a good job isn’t he. But then I’d imagine him being a good manager based on his playing career.

Yes, he (Viera) is doing an excellent job with Palace.

However, from what I can see, there isn't really much of a co-relation between being a very good manager and having been an excellent player.

Many of the best managers were quite mediocre as players, whereas some excellent players failed to make the grade as managers.

If memory serves, Kenny Dalglish was one of the few who was extremely good at both.

That is true. Sometimes you look at a player and think I can or can’t see them being a good manager.
It might be early in his managerial career, but I’m quite surprised how well Wayne Rooney has taken to management.

Atletico Madrid are not the club they once were, but they looked like it against Man Utd today. They knew Man Utd were vulnerable at the back and focused on simply defending, counting on scoring from a mistake or lax defending from Man Utd. Classic Atleti in terms of style, they know how to keep teams at arms-length.

The ref for the Utd / Atletico match was one of the worst I've ever seen. Everyone knows Atletico's modus operandi, but he bought their play-acting without question.

United didn't have the mental toughness or the talent to overcome any of it.

Looks like Ajax were also dumped out of Europe today. Hopefully Erik Ten Hag announced as new United manager sooner than later.

Atleti are infamous for their time wasting and feigning of injury. Is there any club better at it?

The only sure way to beat them is to score early and often to make them come out and open the game up. But that is easier said than done.
