West Ham missed a couple golden chances to take points off Liverpool at Anfield today. Lanzini was especially guilty.

Liverpool were still pretty good (70% possession, 20 shots or so and a handful on-target), but the Hammers competed well for pretty much the whole of the match and had plenty of shots themselves; both teams were guilty of wayward finishing. on a different day that match could have had four or five goals in it.

Now if Man Utd can just do us a favor tomorrow...

Liverpool can win every remaining league match this season and still fail to win the title - and even one or two draws may be be enough to prevent passing Man City into first place. so I am convinced man City have it in the bag. We'll see.
Going to be a exciting and nerve racking finish to the season, still a lot to play for.

I hope they can, they will need their A game!

Difference in class today between City and Utd, especially in the second half.

That difference in class is a yawning chasm. There is no quick fix for this overpaid, under-talented and under-motivated United squad.

United actually played pretty well in the first half, aside from conceding two shambolic goals, but City shifted into third gear in the second half and squashed them like a fat, juicy bug.

Man City are depressingly good. This is why Liverpool have gone a dozen games or so unbeaten yet remain behind Man City in the league. They have all the money, all the talent, all the managerial nous…everything, really. During the second half they just said ‘adios’ to a disjointed Man Utd and brushed them aside. And Cristiano would have been a passenger in this match, I doubt his absence mattered. There have been blips from Man City this season but today’s performance has been more the norm.

And all without a recognised out and out striker! Just imagine if they had got someone in.

And move into a CL spot with all those games in hand. Yours to lose now.

I still prefer points on the board to games in hand.

But, the slow, at times painful, incremental, but consistent, improvement under Mikel Arteta appears to look more solid and convincing as time goes on.

Liverpool have gone a dozen or more games unbeaten, but, unfortunately, that is the standard required to succeed at the very top.

And, it is also a reminder to Manchester City, that they will be challenged all the way; they cannot expect to coast, or canter, - they still have to show themselves better - and consistently better - than everyone else in the PL.

You could say of the Arsenal win ‘Lads, it’s Watford,’ but I think that would be churlish. At this point in the season points and momentum matter and for the present Arsenal have both. West Ham still look good for the top four battle, and you can ever count Man Utd out no matter how bad they look, but at the moment Arsenal look in the drivers’ seat. This CL spot is waiting for someone to stamp their name on it.
