Another scalp for West Ham. Now 7pts clear.

Utd didn't really turn up, granted they're missing their two CBs but De Gea with another howler. Might be time for Utd to look past him.

Utd still have work to do. Still far from challenging.

Carabao cup whilst good on Utd...starting to look like a mask of wider problems.

Happy days here. We held on to our lead for a well deserved victory. Even Fergie time couldn’t help Manchester United!
Fergie time.....you mean the 99th minute goal?

Manchester United didn't deserve a point, let alone three.

An excellent victory for West Ham, which all but guarantees safety; it would take a wildly improbable and unlikely series of results to threaten them now.

Well done.

Indeed it was a result that had consequences for both ends of the table. Of course I would have preferred to not play on a Sunday with a European game on Thursday this week. But there you go.

Well, you can't have everything.

Better safety than anything else; the European match is very much secondary to that.

With today's win - against a top four (perhaps for not too much longer) side, West Ham are all but guaranteed safety. That should count for something.

Tonight's win was a good outcome, especially as you held on until the 99th minute.

I used to hate "Fergie Time": He was an excellent manager, but he was also an absolute bully.

Most of the good managers are. The way they are all over the fourth official during games is quite irksome.

Did you happen to see the interview with Big Sam? Saying he’s just as good a manager as Pep, Klop and Arteta.
I’m sure HE believes that!

I read about Big Sam's interview.

During our lengthy chat earlier today - over three and a half hours - (today is Decent Brother's birthday, my dad's anniversary - of his death - was earlier this week, and, as it happened, Decent Brother started a new position this week - much to discuss) - he referred to that with disbelief.

Mind you, I don't object to Big Sam's talk; some of this may be to rally Leeds, give them some belief in themselves, some boost of confidence, and a brief, flickering hope in the mad rescue project that he hopes to effect; in other words, he has to say these things. I'm not sure that he believes them - but he has to persuade Leeds to try to believe them.

However, it is the toxic, negative, soul-sapping, destructive individuals - such as Jose Mourinho - whom I truly cannot abide (remember "the Special One?")

Strange goings-on with recently promoted Wrexham, with the owners treating the squad to a few days partying and celebrating in Vegas, but the manager Phil Parkinson (who some might argue matsterminded the success with the owners' backing) not making the cut for the trip...
If I were Phil, I'd be feeling somewhat aggrieved.
Does this mean changes are afoot for the Football League? New Management, perhaps?

Not making the cut, or, preferring not to travel?

Either way, it does look a bit odd.

And, celebrating in such a manner, um......well, is it really such a good idea before the football season has come to a close?

More to the point, one wonders which twit decided to let the world know that they were in Vegas?

While "partying and celebrating" can occur anywhere, in some places, - the sort of places dedicated solely to the provision of "partying and celebration" - it suggests - or shrieks - that this is a sort of sleazy world.

1% Chance 99% Faith.

Its not done yet.
I am especially happy to have defeated Newcastle, - the state proxy run sports washing teams evoke an unusually deep dislike from me - in what was a good, solid, performance.

Re the percentages: Perhaps a small degree of adjustment of the respective percentages may be called for.

Some of the pictures gracing the internet would certainly confirm the sleaziness...

The comment from PP was that "he didn't make the cut", but perhaps that was a tongue in cheek comment, made after he'd chosen not to travel.
Either way, it all felt a little...um...tawdry.
Non-league football season has finished - they closed out last weekend. Only the playoffs remain. And it looks like my Dad's old employer Notts County are in the Wembley final and will get to push once again for inclusion in the Football League.

Man Utd are out of gas and out of (their) depth. They look utterly exhausted now. Can't muster any kind of scoring at all right now, their glaring lack of quality up front is painfully obvious. With a resurgent Liverpool looming in the rear view mirror, 4th place is feeling precarious indeed.

De Gea needs to be replaced. He was a great servant to the club and a top keeper at his peak, but there can be no more looking back and appealing to empty nostalgia.

You've got to feel for De Gea - on so many occasions over the last few years, he's been the only one that has looked sharp and worthy and has so often saved United from embarrassing losses or draws, but yes - every dog has its day and I dare say it's time for him to look elsewhere.

It was a terrible mistake from De Gea, but I’ll not lose any sleep over it. ........
Well, no, I'd imagine not.

However, de gea should have been protected by his defence better.

Once goal-keepers become prone to making unforced errors, one will usually see a pattern of a poor defence in front of that keeper.

As @HandsomeDanNZ rightly observes, there have been times in recent seasons when de Gea has been all there was between Manchester United and complete embarrassment.

De Gea has earned the right to a mistake or two but this one is potentially costly. I remain largely uninterested in the remains of this season from a Liverpool perspective but Klopp and his team will, I’m sure, feel energized at the moment and have a very clear goal to aim at.

Napoli winning the title means little to me but at least it’s not Juve.

At least Arsenal's victory yesterday will ensure that Manchester City will not just enjoy a canter to their coronation as Premier League champions, that they will be challenged and contested en route. And that is no bad thing.

Total matches played in 2022-2023 season so far, all competitions:

United at 57
City at 53
Liverpool at 49
Spurs at 47
Arsenal at 46
Newcastle at 42
Brighton at 40

Fatigue, injuries, lack of quality depth, and two matches a week pretty much every week — it all adds up. Only city has the squad to cope with that type of workload.

This is the first matchweek where United doesn't have a midweek match since September. Unbelievable! ETH is giving the squad two days off, and they really need it.

Not really sure I see your point? West Ham have played 51 games this season with a smaller squad than most of those teams. If you are successful in the cups you play more games.

Meanwhile Everton look up for a fight. And Brighton handing them 3pts on a platter.
