I have to say - it's nice to come away at the end of a transfer window and know that we have only moved on players we didn't want or need and nobody of substance left...AND we bought half of the Man City academy and poached some up and coming world-class talent for bargain prices.

This season could finally be one that doesn't stutter in the middle, as we finally have depth.

Mateusz Lis (free, Altay)
Gavin Bazunu (£12.6m, Manchester City)
Armel Bella-Kotchap (£9m, VfL Bochum)
Romeo Lavia (£11.1m, Manchester City)
Joe Aribo (£6.4m, Rangers)
Sekou Mara (£11.7m, Bordeaux)
Ainsley Maitland-Niles (loan, Arsenal)
Samuel Edozie (undisclosed, Manchester City)
Juan Larios (undisclosed, Manchester City)
Duje Caleta-Car (£9m, Marseille)

Out
Harry Lewis (free, Bradford City)
Fraser Forster (free, Tottenham Hotspur)
Caleb Watts (loan, Morecambe)
Dan N'Lundulu (loan, Cheltenham Town)
Shane Long (free, Reading)
William Smallbone (loan, Stoke City)
Thierry Small (loan, Port Vale)
Benni Smales-Braithwaite (free, Barrow)
Will Ferry (undisclosed, Cheltenham)
Nathan Tella (loan, Burnley)
Oriol Romeu (undisclosed, Girona)
Jack Stephens (loan, Bournemouth)
Mateusz Lis (loan, Troyes)
Dynel Simeu (loan, Tranmere Rovers)
Yan Valery (undisclosed, Angers)
Jan Bednarek (loan, Aston Villa)

A very good window indeed.
I to was happy to hold onto our best players. The players we brought in are (hopefully!) going to be good buys. Just need to get past Chelsea this weekend. Hopefully Abamuang doesn’t start well!

Normally I don't get riled about Everton, but I really have no time for Frank Lampard. I think he is seriously overrated as a manager. I'm not saying he's not good enough to manage a pro team, but he's not managing in this league on merit, he's here because of his reputation as a player, his vast web of family connections, and of course he's English and a former England international. And he's a 'proper football man.'

Pickford was heroic today, but he'll still never live this down:

Oh, and the league really is done now. Man City have no competitors except themselves, oil futures, and Financial Fair Play.

Well he’s not doing that bad a job is he? You didn’t win so I think he did his job today.
Is it just me or is Salah not doing as well since he got his new contract? Happens a lot. Big contract and the player goes off the boil.

I'm not commenting on whether he's doing a bad job, he's doing OK* - but there are a lot of coaches out there that appear to know as much or more about the game than him who are not managing Premier League teams. It's not just him - you could level similar criticisms against Steven Gerrard, for example, though I'd say that at the moment he's shaded Lampard in terms of his managerial career (and naturally I'm biased towards Stevie G for both team affiliation and political reasons). Both could still turn out to be flops who got their chance due largely to nepotism. Time will tell. And Everton still celebrate draws against 'Pool like cup wins, so I'm not going to be too sour about today's result.

As for Salah, his new contract is partly recognition for what he has accomplished as much as an expectation of continued performance. Liverpool know he's aging and probably won't be scoring at the same rate, and they'll be paying more for less on the face of it. But that doesn't necessarily mean he's underperforming. He's still an integral part of the attack and the dressing room, and there are few strikers alive who can claim to be capable of his level.

*Though Everton are still suffering a fantastically bad return on the money they've spent on both players and managers.

I hope we can get a win tomorrow at the theatre of dreams. Yes we are in a much better place than Man U but in recent past we always **** things up at old trafford. #COYG

...and Arsenal get found out

No.

Not "found out", rather, they discover limits, and boundaries, and the gap between the possible, probable and the current reality.

The stuffing MU experienced (suffered) against Brentford was too shocking for Manchester United to not have been compelled to react (i.e. make some serious changes).

Arsenal weren’t going to keep their 100% record forever. Although the score line was a bit flattering for Utd.

Exactly.

And, I am in complete agreement with you.

Same old. 😡
No.

I think that a strong case can be made that the current team (under Mr Arteta) has strengthened immeasurably; however, we would do well to remember that these are not yet The Invincibles, and - candidly - aren't really approaching anything remotely resembling that level yet, and to expect that (or, even, to hope for that) is - to my mind - an ask too far, not least because Arsenal cannot hope to match the resources of some of other clubs in the Pl.

Personally, I will rest more than happy with CL qualification this season.

Yes same old in terms of better team lost.

We were the better team played well but as per usual we didn't convert our chances. How many times we've been here.

They scored that same goal 3 times in this game.

Lokonga hmmm lets not go there.

And then substitutes were poor by Arteta.

When i say "found out" i mean the naivety still hasn't been addressed from last season.

Yes they were the better side but that's meaningless if you concede literally identical types of goals 3x. Despite being aware of how the opposition has set out to hurt you. It really isn't rocket science.

Plus to not have strengthened an obvious deficiency in their squad this summer is another naive move. Read a stat saying Partey has played <50% of total matches since he signed.

Also, Paul Tierney seems to be the new Mike Dean for Arsenal. He made a strong cameo in the All or Nothing doc IIRC. Some would also say its interesting that a referee from Salford officiated the match.

Anyway, on today's evidence i don't see Arsenal getting top 4, would not hold my breath on a trophy either. If you can't get results against the 'bigger' opposition...even when you outplay them...then isn't that...."same old Arsenal"

Not that i'm convinced of Utd either, but at least the latter seems to know how to get results against the odds.

On another note, i wonder if Brighton will make it to Europe this season. Potter seems to have built a solid outfit

Not seen it yet, but if it’s anything like our disallowed goal…..
MOTD2 in a bit, but I don’t think you’ll be watching tonight!
No, as you so rightly observe, that will not comprise part of my night's viewing.

Well, it is a young team, and - clearly (as with conceding a certain, specific type of goal, on a regular and repeated basis) they still have much to learn. And part of this learning curve would require that what you refer to as the "naivety" (which I consider some sort of hybrid between naivety and inexperience, as this is a flaw that hard-earned, and hard-learned experience should - eventually - address), be addressed.

However, their resilience has improved, their (our?) actual team spirit appears to have improved, and the giant (and disruptive) egos have been banished from the dressing room.

Re Thomas Partey, when he plays, he is excellent and an extremely important part of the balance and structure - and form - of the team; however, unfortunately, he does appear to be rather prone to injury.

I appreciate they're learning and i hope i'm wrong about my predictions for their sake. It was just comical/frustrating to watch.

I don't hate Arsenal btw, but they make it hard to root for them.

But good luck to them.
