EDIT: It's worth also pointing out that the Saudi's aren't just asking people to play football. Those massively inflated salaries are there because they also ask players to go on the record, in front of a camera, and talk about how wonderful Saudi Arabia is. THAT is what they are really being paid for.
That is exactly why Neville and Beckham were very heavily vilified in the media for there promoting of the Qatar World Cup because people knew they were being used as puppets to promote the goodness of the country and not the football, all for the sake of money.

Typical behaviour of one of the greedy six. Very disrespectful. Price is agreed. Terms are agreed. Now it’s just dragging on and on.

As you say we need to get on and find a replacement or three.
Price is agreed, terms are agreed, the wording being examined, and I imagine that the announcement will be made shortly.

However, it is possible that Arsenal are of the opinion that West Ham negotiated in bad faith - to my mind, their conduct during the negotiations (and I am not disputing their right to obtain the best possible price for their player) was less than exemplary, - and are aware that West Ham are on the FFP watchlist, (thus, they are unable to buy anyone until money due and owed is banked) and are deliberately dragging this out.

Neither team has covered themselves in glory with this.

The thing with money, in my opinion, when you are made rich from it, it changes your whole way of thinking and that is that they want more money. Look at the business world, the millionaires and billionaires, they are never happy with what they have even though they know they can live comfortably on just 1% of their wealth, they always want more. A huge majority of footballers are now the same, the game makes them multi millionaires and yet they still want more in wages and addon's. Look at De Gea and players like him, very rich and could live extremely comfortable for the rest of his life on the millions he already has but was not prepared to take a wage cut so he could stay at United, the club he supposedly loves so much but not so much as to take a pay cut.

Mbappe, made a millionaire at PSG but will not accept a reduction in wage to play at other clubs. Greed is now an endemic part of football and it will only get worse if wage caps are not put in place.

Most are changed by money. But some remain level headed.

There are those who have taken pay cuts

Sadio Mane and N'golo Kante never changed despite money. And have always viewed it as a tool to help others.

It depends on the person and their upbringing.

But i agree some are never satisfied.

It does seem there is some petty behavior going on that has occurred from both clubs. It was mentioned that West Ham could have been initially playing hardball on the structure of transfer payments, which was stipulated that it is their right to do so. Now Arsenal are saying they are not happy with the wording of the contract hence the long delay, which is their right to do so (making sure wording in contract is correct).

If one side plays 'hardball' and thus makes things awkward, expect the other side to do so to. Both teams are as bad as each other, regardless of the rights they have.

No disagreement with this.

Ultimately I think the situation hurts West Ham more than Arsenal right now.
We all know Rice will be an Arsenal player next season.
We just need to get the funds in and move on.

Sad really. Hopefully this doesn’t reflect badly on the player who I think has been blameless in all of this.

Arsenal are probably doing a 'De Jong', granted the player did not really want to leave Barcelona but the way Barcelona behaved towards Man United was disgraceful. Yes we all know Ten Haag should have moved on when he realized how extremely difficult Barcelona was being so yes that is much of his fault as well BUT still, United could not move on until they had sorted out the De Jong transfer of which Barcelona kept making it more and more awkward as time went on.

West Ham are unfortunately in the same position, they cannot move on until the Rice deal is done. West Ham played hardball and now Arsenal are giving them a taste of their own medicine and poor old Rice is stuck in the middle of it all.

Smaller clubs who develop players nowadays always end having to do the sale but for some reason it seems they should just thrown their pants down every time someone comes along with some number.
If Arsenal doesn't like the contract they can return the player and find someone else.
And for West Ham well, we are not even past half July.

Totally agree.

Big Fish eats Small Fish all that. Manchester clubs have done that to Arsenal on numerous occasions.

But If West Ham don’t like how things are being conducted they are under no obligation to sell Rice to us. They can talk to other clubs and I believe which they have but no body wants to pay their asking price.

They are free to walk away. And i wonder why haven’t they 🤔.

Plenty of trash talk from their camp about how unhappy they are etc and yet they still want Arsenal’s money.

Not heard or seen any trash talk from Arsenal’s camp in media or on social.

West Ham fans are so crossed about Rice being sold. Maybe hold a peaceful protest outside Rush Green? 🤔

Damn it i forgot. We not allowed to joke about West Ham in here.
The bitterness. 🤐
Didn’t sound very funny. Maybe we should just give you players for free? Or perhaps we could develop a league where you can compete at the highest level even if you are not good enough. But make it a closed group so nobody can join.

#entitled greedy six.

Yo Mister @Scepticalscribe when you starting new thread or are you amending the name of this thread nearer to the Community Shield day.

We've always turned the thread over around Community Shield time, so may as well stick with the formula.

Still plenty to talk about over the summer: transfer drama, preseason friendlies, the Women's World Cup is coming up later this month.

Me first time posting in Football thread hence the question.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Definitely plenty to talk about before new season begins especially Declan Rice’s impending move to entitled greedy six club. 🤐

Official announcement hopefully today

West Ham insiders still at it. They just can’t help themselves lol.

Let’s hope so. Then we can all just move on. I’ll ignore the dig.
