I wonder if he will be more open to selling Madison now they’re clearly in a bit of a rebuild stage.
Player obviously wants to leave and it would give him funds to spend.
No guarantees it will. The funds could just get swallowed up like the rest of the transfer funds they have generated. I’d keep him until the summer if it was me.

United still well behind in terms of squad depth. Take out a couple of key starters, and they reverted to bad form and a weak mentality.

Donny van de Beek — man, what a flop. Get rid ASAP. United also really needs another CB, as Lindelof isn't even good enough to provide cover. Ronaldo shouldn't be playing so many minutes, let alone captaining the side, except for the extreme lack of depth up front, since Martial can't stay fit. Can't wait for a long term replacement to come in and Ronny can pack his bags for MLS or something, since he's clearly washed at the higher levels of the game.

If Portugal starts him at the World Cup, they'll really be squandering a golden opportunity. The rest of their squad looks so deep and talented, but he would only hold them back.

In other news, looks like Hasenhüttl's time has run out at Southampton, with plans to let him go sometime before the World Cup. Too bad he couldn't quite get them over the hump — he did good work there for a while, but it went pretty stale in the end, and he had less talent to work with.

Southampton have sold too much talent over the years. But always seem to find a gem
Utd on the other hand seem to spend a lot of money on players that look good, but don’t quite work out.
But as they fall down the pecking order in the PL it will become increasingly harder for them to recruit top drawer players.

West Ham missed out on another penalty shout. I’ll watch the highlights this evening, but from the commentary I was listening to, it sounded pretty clear cut.

Third in the league. Beyond what I could have imagined. Howe is doing a fantastic job and really proving his doubters wrong.

Kane flopped again.

Dier flopped again.

Sterling flopped again.

Pickford flopped again.

Yet they all will be first choice for WC line up.

Lol.

A good victory for Arsenal today (against Chelsea) which means that they are still top of the table.

Actually, it is an astonishing achievement to have led from the front (against Manchester City, no less) since close to the beginning of the season.

I'm not sure how long it can last - as Liverpool have already (all too painfully) discovered, only sustained excellence can challenge Manchester City - but, I am enjoying it while it lasts.

So Gareth Bale scores a late equalizer in extra time to take the MLS Cup Final to pens - which his LAFC side win after Philly missed all three of their spot kicks. Philly were the better side over the season and have fewer resources, so it’s a shame the Gareth Bale Temporary Retirement Home take the trophy.

Yet they all will be first choice for WC line up.

Apparently you’ll be fine as long as you make sure ‘Worst Defender on the Planet’ Trent Alexander Arnold doesn’t make the cut. Mind you, if he doesn’t go and England flop, the very same scribblers and typers of drivel who currently don’t rate him to play Sunday League will probably be blaming Southgate for leaving him out…such is life. Dier gave away a goal and yet the commentators were still going on and on about the TAA Question.

'Pool beat another contender today despite recent losses to the bottom feeders. Spurs did not look all that impressive, though they have players who can create big moments. Salah with two superbly skillful strikes.

Liverpool could struggle to finish in the top four though none of the teams above them apart from Man City and Arsenal look truly convincing/consistent thus far.

Of course he will start, he and Mendes own the National Team. At least in the next Euro one can hope he will have decided not to show up.

Hasenhuttl has been given his marching orders

Am surprised Ten Hag has not been given his marching orders either. Has the 2nd most expensive squad in the world and has been beaten 4-0 by Bentford and 6-3 by Manchester City. Results which would and have given other managers their marching orders. Yes I know Ten Hag has only just come into the squad and it's starting a rebuild but to get beaten liken that with the expensive squad he has, given the marching order standards of other clubs, yes he should have gone by now.

Look at it this way, when Ferguson retired Moyes was handed a premier league winning squad oozing with talent and experience but what happened? 6 months later he was sacked. If it can happen to Moyes it can happen to Ten Hag.

FSG have put Liverpool up for sale.

It’s a surprising announcement in this moment but the reasoning behind it is obvious. FSG have greatly increased the club's value through hiring a popular and highly-regarded manager, shrewd squad-building, winning major trophies, and undertaking major upgrades to the stadium and training ground infrastructure.

If they sell now, they'll be selling high. An expensive squad rebuild is on the horizon, the fan oppose a Super League, and FSG still cannot financially compete pound-for-pound with Man City, Chelsea (probably still), Man Utd, and now Newcastle. They have been punching above their weight, and that won't last forever. The odds are the next squad will be less successful than the last one.

Nah, not a fair comparison. SAF's last squad won the league by sheer force of his will and a fantastic season from Robin Van Persie, not because the squad was in excellent shape or anything. The job was too big for Moyes, but the transition from David Gill to Ed Woodward was equally, if not more, damaging.

Everyone knows this current squad is bloated with expensive mistakes from previous managers and that it will take time to purge the passengers and malcontents. They did a decent job of that this summer, and all of ETH's new signings have been at least relatively successful so far. After last season's debacle, I don't think anyone's expectations for this season are too unrealistic. Stability is needed and they need to continue to build on a long term plan and not keep hitting the reset button. ETH was able to get the team to respond after those horrid defeats earlier in the season, and I expect he'll get them to bounce back after yesterday.

The chances of a European trophy greatly diminished when United drew Barcelona in the Europa League play-in tie. Lisandro Martinez is suspended for the first match due to a really poor yellow card issued by the ref in the Sociedad match. Probably better to focus on the PL and the domestic cup(s), anyway.

Thing is though Moyes was brought in to rebuild an ageing team, a team many critics said Ferguson should have put many of it's players on the transfer list years before he retired. Moyes did an excellent rebuild of Everton, took them from middle to bottom league club to a consistant top 6 club getting them into Europe. The right man for a rebuild job at United but he was never given the chance. Sacked after 6 months. Ten Hag has been brought in to do exactly the same thing, rebuild the squad. If they lose to Barcelona and end up out of league place for Europe I'd be surprised if Ten Hag is still at the club.
