Nice to be able to watch a live West Ham game for a change. Glad we got the early goal, but think Derby will score at some point.
Resting a number of key players.
Hope that doesn’t bite us on the rear.

Derby look very poor. Antonio just scored, so it's 0-2 Hammers.

Your reward for moving on in the FA Cup? A date with Man Utd in the next round.

Looking at Manchester United I do wonder how many people are wondering when are they going to spectacular fail because they are fighting in 4 competitions with a team that is understrength and no proven striker.

It makes sense walking away from Caicedo but Jorginho ...

Not too sure about this signing but I will 100% support him when he pulls on the Arsenal shirt.

I guess we are saving £££ for Declan Rice in summer.

Signing players from Chelsea never works out for Arsenal.

Jorginho looks pretty washed to me, but Partey really needs cover, so I guess he can do that job.

Yes, it will be very tricky for United to manage such a congested fixture list. They ought to just blow off the Europa League, but I assume that pride will encourage them to give Barça their best shot. Eriksen is out for 3 months with that ankle injury, so they're really going to have to decide where to focus their resources and even a top 4 finish is in serious doubt.

What I want to write about Carroll is a bit too harsh for a family forum.

Looks like Marcel Sabitzer may be incoming from Bayern. That would be a very good move. Gotta beat the clock!

Andy Carroll? He played for us once. In the two years he took a wage.

Jorginho to Arsenal reeks of desperation. And Chelsea must be laughing their a**es off.

Steal Mudryk from them then get paid to offload a past it player AND weakens them

Letting Lokonga go as well is head scratching, i know he's struggled but still...

Sabitzer to Utd loks shrewed in the wake of Eriksen

Brighton holding on to Caicedo i'm not sure either. He's made it clear he wants to leave so its going to be awkward reintegrating a player that clearly doesn't want to be at your club *shrug*

At this stage, I will trust Mr Arteta's judgment on purchases, - his summer shopping worked out pretty well - and Jorginho may well fit better at the Emirates, than he has recently at Chelsea, where, for all of their millions spent on purchases (and indeed, gazumping), it remains an extraordinarily dysfunctional club.

After all, he is an exceptionally experienced player, - and has won some seriously impressive silverware with Chelsea.

Rice and Caicedo look like the real targets. Rice won't happen till summer, and no point playing politics with Brighton over Caicedo.
But they still need a body in midfield as backup. Jorginho is EPL ready and is dirt cheap at £12m especially with Lokonga off the books. It's a relatively risk free trial without disturbing the status quo.

And if it doesn't work out, they can bin him in 18 months. With his addition, they've spent £56m and added bodies to all 3 deficient areas of the pitch. Giving themselves half a chance.

In summer they can go bigger...especially if they pull off winning the EPL/top 4 slot. If you take a step back, i think they've done ok considering January is usually a horrible window to shop in.

United have also done well to swiftly cover for Eriksen. Even though i'm not a fan of no-buy loan deals.

On another note, Everton not signing a striker might end up being the nail in their coffin

And Forest now have what 30 players on their books?

Fair arguments. I suppose time will tell.

Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea seems to be all but done for...€120m

Bargain! I guess time will tell.
I have no idea why the name "Romelu Lukaku" is flitting across my mind, on reading this news.

I do recall that he cost a mere £97million, or so......small change, given the obscene and absurb inflation that seems to govern the price of some elite (or those deemd to be elite) footballers, these days.

Chelsea have been frankly obscene, and done their EPL counterparts zero favours.
Yes, but Chelsea have yet to craft a team; the sum of the whole does not exceed the sum of several gifted individual parts; for now, they still lack a collective vision, a coherence, or the means to give effect on the pitch to some sort of collective vision.

I reckon the vast majority of Chelsea's spend over the past two windows will be an utter and complete waste.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, Everton brought in... nobody? Guess they're resigned to going down, then.

Chelsea had to sign Fernandez now or lose him for good. Their loophole has been closed by UEFA, so they had no choice but to pay the release clause and get the deal done now.

At what cost remains to be seen. The players need time to gel, there's still questions about Potter because the scale has become monumental with equally matched expectations.

And they've also firmly fixed a spotlight on themselves over the coming windows. In terms of regulatory bodies, other clubs, and their ability to compete.

Big money signings rarely work out. Only VVD and Mbappe have worked in recent memory.

I think that applies to every club he's been at.
Surprised he hasn't turned up in the MLS or A-League. Many clubs love an injury prone ex-prem player, for some reason.

Overall, I am pretty happy with Southampton's Transfer Window business. We've broken our transfer record, paying 22-million quid for a winger (even though we have lots of wingers and really need a few strikers). And apprently he was the fastest player at the WC, clocked at something like 300km/h...or something.

I was expecting kids or under-performers from lower leagues, but we actually got a Peter-Crouch-esque 6'7" striker, too, who's been lighting Belgium on fire and a couple of other players that can maybe light a fire under some of our current under-performers and build some depth in the squad.
A big, tall goal-scorer to partner our tiny and speedy gnat of a non-goal-scorer. With Chele McAdams to play a back-up role, perhaps?

Still not sold on Nathan Jones and doubt he'll keep us up, but glad at least one of the cup runs is over - Newcastle outplayed us and we don't have the luxury of preparing for a cup final while we battle relegation (in saying that, two wins and we'd suddenly be mid-table, so it's not that far-fetched to believe we may still survive).

Benfica got 75% of his economic rights 6 months ago for 10 million euro plus 8 million objectives.
The sale activates the full objectives clause so 18 million.
He is one of those players which you can see that there is something special. But in bigger games he has been known to disappear.
He doesn't come too well out of this deal. He was childish and unprofessional a few weeks ago. That was worked out probably by some inside talk where he was shown how his career could and would be burnt to the ground. On this second Chelsea approach he kept his cool. Still there are rumours he refused any solution where he would play the rest of the season which was something Chelsea was available for.
Chelsea didn't really pay the release clause, that would imply a straight 120 million payment.
In Portugal release clauses are more like something to set the negotiation going.
Perhaps in the next round 150 million clauses should start to be the used.

Well...approaching half time in the FIFA Club World Cup and the minnows from NZ - Auckland City are holding their own against Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly.
Currently 0-0. Decent crowd for this one too. Considering the combatants, it's quite surprising.
