Apparently Everton are looking at Bielsa as a replacement for Lampard...I love Bielsa, but he is the opposite of the kind of manager Everton need right now, if indeed any manager is really going to make much of a difference.

If I had to vote, it would be for Steve Bruce, since they already have had Big Sam and Joe Kinnear is retired. What's Phil Brown up to these days? 🤣

Tony Pulis lol

Well, Spurs rode their luck and claimed all three points; I would have liked to have seen Fulham take at least one point from this encounter.

Re Lampard, be has benefitted from both patronage and an extraordinary tolerance that has been extended to him, and, in the case of Clesea, affection deriving from nostalgia.

For now, management at this level is - to my mind - beyond his level of competence.

I concur.

He needs to go to League 1 or overseas somewhere and really get some success under his belt at a slightly less prestigious level.
Once that's done (much like many others have done in the past) he should be able to either find his level, or improve enough to come back to the Premier League.

Vincent Kompany will be an interesting one if/when Burnley get promoted. Can he make it at this level, or is Championship glory his peak? Only time will tell, but he seems infinitely better than Mr Lampard.

Didn’t Lampard manage Derby County prior to Rooney taking over? Can’t remember how he did there. I think it was before they had points docked.

He did okay at Derby apparently.

When it rains, it pours for Everton. Danjuma with a u-turn to sign for Spurs after completing Everton medical. Presumably Frank's sacking a factor.

Chelsea also set to take Anthony Gordon from them.

Also on Chelsea, UEFA seem to be watching them. UEFA will now close the amortisation loop-hole by setting a 5yr maximum spread, after clubs filed complaints about the Mudryk transfer.

Watching Saints vs Toon in the Carabao Cup Semifinal first leg at St Mary's.
Couple of fairly contentious calls - a goal disallowed for Toon for handball and shortly after a non-foul that saw Saints player Djenepo treated for concussion.

Overall, it feels like a two-leg cup game.

And still on Everton: Everton have been put up for sale by Mr Moshiri, (asking price around £500m) which has doubtless added further to the instability surrounding the club.

Perhaps the owners of Liverpool could include it in their sale. Then they could combine the two clubs. That way perhaps they could win more PL titles than Leicester or Blackburn!

It’s a good moment for all fans to ponder the reality that every owner - no matter how rich, how flashy, how big their vision - bails on you eventually someday.

First Division titles > Premier League Greed-Era titles. 😂

So...Saudi Arabicastle 1 Southampton 0 in the League Cup semifinal first leg.
In reality it should've been 11-5 to Toon. Neither team covered themselves in glory this morning/evening.
Jan Bednarek back from the wilderness that was a loan spell at Villa. Didn't do a lot in his 20min cameo.
Lyanco causing heart palpitations and very nearly getting himself sent off for being thuggish (about time Saints lost their "nice" mantle).
Saints are in desperate need of a quality striker with an instinct for goal - should spend any sum to get one before the window shuts. Premier League survival hinges on us scoring goals.

But those strikers are few and far between. We have spent northward of £50 million on a striker and they turn out to be a flop.
Even if you have the cash it’s hard to convince some proven player to come to a team in trouble.
So that leaves you with
Unproven player who may or not be good enough.
A player who’s past his best but can still do a job IF he stays fit.
A player who has played at this level but has been mediocre at best.

Strikers of proven quality are hard to come by because the players want too much in wages, their agent wants too much money as a sign on bonus, the club wants too much money in transfer or the club just refuses outright to let the striker go. Classic example is United. They are screaming out for a proven striker of exceptional quality but no one has come calling. Maybe it's to do with one or more of the reasons I've listed.

Seems like it's between Bielsa and Dyche to take helm at Everton: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/64416720

My gut feeling is that Dyche might be a better choice, short term, as Bielsa's approach requires every player to be above average fit to outrun the opponents (by quite a margin), while Dyche seems to focus more on defensive organisation. (I could be wrong, though, I haven't followed either manager more than superficially.)

Getting a whole squad in better shape takes time, while better organisation _should_ be quicker to implement, and Everton needs results soon, to have a realistic chance of survival...

Re-organization is what Everton need with regards to a new manager. The test example is Leicester City and the 2015-2016 Premier league season. Leicester had just scraped survival in the previous season and at the start of the following season the club sacked it's manager Nigel Pearson and brought in Claudio Ranieri. With the same group of players that Nigel had at his disposal, Claudio steadied the ship and got them to be Premier League champions.

Claudio Ranieri proved that you do not need a team of superstars to win the league.
