Seems Dyche won the job...or rather Bielsa bailed out

Meanwhile Arsenal submit £60m for Caicedo whom Brighton bought for £4.5m. And it probably won't be enough.

So it seems, yes:

Which - based on my post above - seems like the better option...

Now, looking at the next 6 games, anything from the first two matches would be a bit of a bonus, and maybe a boost, but I think if they can get 8-10 points from the next 4 that would go a long way...if not, well...

Everton's next six fixtures:

February 4 - Arsenal (H), kick-off 12.30pm

February 13 - Liverpool (A), live on Sky Sports, kick-off 8pm

February 18 - Leeds (H), kick-off 3pm

February 25 - Aston Villa (H), kick-off 3pm

March 5 - Nottingham Forest (A), kick-off 2pm

March 11 - Brentford (H), kick-off 3pm

Everton have got some very tough games coming up so it will be interesting to see how Dyche does because he is literally being thrown in at the deep end.

City just about stumble over the line despite being at full strength vs a 'weakened' Arsenal. Fabio Viera still yet to announce his arrival. Ake probably the best player on the pitch. One down, two more to go.

Disappointed yes but not feeling let down or gutted by the efforts Arsenal boys put in.

Arteta in my opinion should sell Sambi Lokonga. He is not the player for Arsenal. Average player and **** attitude. Didnt even clap the away fans and walked off the pitch on his own.

Arsenal needs full concentration on EPL now. Ill be correct in saying every Arsenal supporter wants that trophy. Its been too long.

He's gone one step further than Mudryk. Probably senses the opportunity to either win the league or play UCL football. If Arsenal go back in with £65m that may force Brighton's hand but ultimately they dont have to sell. Especially not two of their best players to Arsenal.

Traditionally, Arsenal have been a pretty strong FA Cup team.

However, while currently very good (and constantly improving and evolving), they still lack the strength in depth of other teams, such as Manchester City.

In truth, while trophies are very nice to have, this season, I'd be happier with a CL spot copper-fastened.

Exiting the cup may actually do you a favour. You can now concentrate on the league.

Caicedo is going to give me heartburn for years to come.

As a United fan and an Ecuador supporter, I wanted to see him follow his heart from Independiente del Valle to United, but there were some agent representation issues that gave United pause, and Brighton swooped in. I also have to admit that if he had signed for United, he'd probably still be laboring in the U23 squad. Going to Brighton (after a half season loan in Belgium), he became a regular starter and was allowed to develop without the harsh spotlight and tons of pressure. For his career progression, it's worked out amazingly. Still, I will have regrets every time I see him play for Arsenal or whoever, but I still want to see him do well — and he has all the attributes to excel at a top club. Consider yourselves very lucky.

As long as Chelsea don't gazzump the deal.

Exactly; fewer distractions.

And, it is better to exit relatively early, rather than destroy yourself and run out of steam in the later rounds of the Cup.

In recent years, twice, after two stunning seasons, in the Premier League, Liverpool ran Manchester City to the very wire, losing on the last day with a points total that would have comfortably won the league any time before the emergence of Manchester City; in those years - since the appointment of Jurgen Klopp as manager, Liverpool have actually claimed the Premier League title once.

During those self same years, they have reached the Champions' League Final three times, and won the competition on one of those three occasions.

Now, unfortunately, they are close to burn out, while Manchester City - armed and equipped with more or less bottomless financial resources - still threaten.

For me, the goal this season, is to secure qualification for the Champions League; anything else is a bonus, though I will say that this has been a superb season so far, with Arsenal leading the pack almost since the very beginning of the season.

Liverpool have an ageing midfield and a style that is to run and run. Eventually that becomes too much. I think they need fresh legs in there that are at least as good as what they have/had.

We to have too many distractions. I couldn’t care less about the Europa c competition we are in. The FA cup is also a tournament we won’t win, so we might as well go out sooner than later.
That said we have Derby County next and as I work with a Derby County supporter, I really don’t want the weeks of abuse if we lose!
I’d say the same for Arsenal. Have one focus this year, the Premier League. Maybe it could be your year.

Casemiro is easily the signing of the season.

Have to hold my hands up and say i was wrong about him. Thought Utd was crazy spending £70m on 30yr old player.

But he has more than repaid them.

Mitoma (£4.9m) dumps holders Liverpool out of the FA Cup
Brighton continue to look good against Liverpool.

'Pool were a hair's breadth from a quadruple last year, so any attempt to paint this as a team in total meltdown is absurd, but the injuries and personnel shuffles, ageing midfield, uncertainties over ownership, and improvements made by other clubs are all factors in the drop-off this season.

Ignoring the tedious 'race for fourth', the whole season now comes down to the tie with Real Madrid. Which Liverpool will lose, I'm afraid.

Can Klopp even be trusted to motivate the players at this point. Dare i say he seems to be losing the dressing room.

Salah seems to be doing an Aubameyang as well. But will Klopp ever drop him.

It was around this stage that pundits were predicting a resurgence from Liverpool, Chelsea, and City. And that doesn't seem to be materialising. Granted City are still getting results because depth.

Still a lot of games to play but it's not looking great either

Expecting Liverpool, even the version that won the big trophies, to maintain that form flies in the face of the data. Klopp's Liverpool are an outstanding football team, but they won trophies partially through overperformance - literally beating the odds. They are not the wealthiest team, they don't have the deepest squad, and they've played the most matches.

Taking that into account and adding in the injuries, fatigue from playing every possible match last season, need to bed in new players, and lack of midfield refreshment, and what we are seeing now makes total sense. Klopp hasn't always made the right decision but the current slump is not primarily a case of Klopp 'losing the dressing room.' It's regression to the mean.

I still think a City title has long been a foregone conclusion, but that's more emotional than purely rational. I'd love to be wrong and see the Gunners take the title.

I dunno...i think when people say City will hunt Arsenal down they're referring to the City of prior seasons who played with a false 9, had Zinchenko, Sterling, and Jesus. And hadn't won 4 titles in 5 seasons.

The current City play with a recognised striker, and are consequently somewhat more predictable. Mark KDB and Haaland and you're half-way there. Add to the fact that the squad has generally been underperforming. Bernado Silva, Walker, Gundogan all below par. And no stability in defence...albeit Dias's return will change that.

I don't think its a forgone conclusion like most people believe.

Saying that Arsenal are also in a precarious position. If anything happens to the first 11, particularly Partey, it's game over.

Re-Liverpool, i think the energy around the club is now a case of 'write this season off, undergo a huge rebuild in summer". But even then, are FSG going to sanction a £250-£300m splurge which is what is needed.

That is the counterargument, to be sure. There is a whiff of the CR7 concept of 'scores lots of goals, but maybe makes the team weaker' about Haaland. It may or may not create a significant weakness, it is too early to say. Man City are more predictable with him in the side - but if he keeps scoring at this rate it may not matter.

Saying that Arsenal are also in a precarious position. If anything happens to the first 11, particularly Partey, it's game over.

I think Arsenal losing steam is the more likely scenario than Man City choking. If Arsneal drop off a bit Man City won't have to be that great to catch them, and nobody has a deeper squad than Man City. So if they are just 'very good,' and always have ' very good' replacements for injured players, that could be enough to beat a team who are 'excellent' for most of the season and then lose a couple key players and become 'average.'

Re-Liverpool, i think the energy around the club is now a case of 'write this season off, undergo a huge rebuild in summer". But even then, are FSG going to sanction a £250-£300m splurge which is what is needed.

FSG will need to spend if they want to sell at their asking price. They will need to spend if they want to win anything. They will need to spend if they want to keep the fans onside and Klopp happy.

They do not need to spend if they are OK creating a toxic atmosphere, winning nothing further, and slinking out of town with a cut-rate sales fee in hand at some point in the future.

They'll make a healthy profit on the club no matter which way they go, so it is still up in the air.

I always watched Casemiro pretty closely when he played for RM and Brazil through the years. He was always an impressive player, but he's shown even more to his game since coming to Manchester. It could be partly down to being the guy in midfield, and not just a guy alongside the likes of Kroos and Modric, but he's granted more license to get forward in ETH's system and he's shown passing, creating, and finishing you didn't see him do on a regular basis before. Also never recalled him smiling on the pitch so much in Madrid — his enthusiasm and drive is infectious.

Brighton is the bogey team for a lot of other clubs by this point. They're doing a fantastic job down there.

That ogre Andy Carroll did Christian Eriksen's ankle in the FA Cup tie yesterday. Seems like going in for Thielemans from Leicester would make an awful lot of sense, but the Glazers are skint. Fred's going to have to do a job at the #8.

I'm curious as to why João Cancelo - who is an excellent player, and played a key role in City's success over the past two seasons - is out of favour at Manchester City, and now - having signalled his clear dissatisfaction with his situation at Manchester City (including having spent a number of recent games on the subs bench) - appears to be on his way to Bayern Munich.

Pep must've told him he no longer trusts him, considering he has been playing Lewis ahead of him.

Meanwhile Arsenal submitted a £70m bid for Caicedo which Brighton have promptly rejected. Arsenal looking for Jorginho as backup.

And Chelsea look set to land Enzo Fernandez for €120m
