Decent Brother busy texting (and teasing) me about Arsenal.

There are days (and today is one of them) when that team really try my patience......

The temptation to seek refuge in a form of Anglo-Saxon that is rich, vulgar and biological, deeply redolent and saturated with an almost medieval fervour.....shall be resisted. With no small difficulty.

Im not even annoyed at the draw. I'm more annoyed at the spiders that come out of the cupboard whenever we have a 'poor' result. Eager to chat rubbish. Dull and exhausting.
We really are the most hated club in this country, and Liverpool are the apparent darlings who can do no wrong.

Anyway, thankfully thats ends the tough away set of fixtures, and i can start enjoying the upcoming home games.

Unfortunately, it looks like we can add Nwaneri to injury list.

*shrug*

I have equal pleasure when Liverpool or Arsenal lose to be fair.

It could be worse. You could be a Hammer. Not a bad performance but another poor result against City today. At least the teams below us lost.

Nope, that honour is still reserved for Man United for two reasons, envy/jealousy due to their premier league success and not choosing to not defend the FA Cup but instead take part in the inaugural World Club Cup.

Even today with United where they are in the league I still hear other fans talking about how much they hate and despise United, more so than any club.

I'm annoyed at the draw, but not because of the penalty.

By that stage, we should have converted enough of the decent chances that had been created to have put the game beyond dispute, above all, beyond rescue on the part of Brighton.

That is on us; if Saka is injured, then, well, those who remain, - the others - they should be more ruthless, more responsible - more clinical and more competent - in putting away the fairly good chances that fall to them.

If you are on a (multiple of a) salary of six figures a week, you should be sufficiently professional not to aim at the sky when a good chance to score is presented to you.

Had we put the game well away by the time the penalty was awarded (and that sort of contact in the penalty area - accidental, unintended, inadvertent, - or not, - will always lead to the award of a penalty) the issue of whether Brighton scored from the penalty would have been moot, as would have been the fact that converting that penalty enabled them to take away a (deserved) point from the game.

Even though I am an Arsenal supporter, and have been since I was a child - decades ago - I am getting fed up, sick to the back teeth, as well as sick and tired of this endless (and entitled) and tediously ill-tempered blaming game, (when we get a "poor" - or unwelcome - result), this ghastly cultivation of an entirely ridiculous mindset of "why me?", this dreadful attitude of whinging, whining (and deeply unattractive) victimhood, on the part of Arsenal management.

Man up (or woman up) and take responsibility for - in other words, own - your (our) mistakes and stop complaining about how unfair referees and other officials are.

We have nobody to blame but ourselves for this result.

- Gyökeres continues doing his hatrick's - it doesn't change after Amorin left.
- Isak are scoring very well too.

- Häcken (women) have found - or was found by a very talented Brasillian to join them.
She played college football in US, and the team analyst took Häcken as a great example how they should play, and now she's here. I'll keep an eye on her, Brazil produces good players.

We don't have a title winning squad because several players have dropped their levels. Without Saka or Odegaard we're a top 4 team at best.

Our title challenge ended after we lost to Newcastle. I made peace with it.

I maintain my previous stance below...

...
For me i'm ready let 7 players go

Jesus - Done...forget shadow, he's a ghost of his former self.
Martinelli - 18 mths in and safe to say he's reached his ceiling with us
Zinchenko - Can't even play 2 successive games. Cost us in back to back seasons
Kiwior - Arsenal currently a level above him
Tomiyasu - Never successfully played majority of any season. Only 6 mins on the pitch so far this season
Tierney - Why is he still here if Mikel categorically refuses to play him even when we're desperately short.
Sterling - Nuff said

Until the above issues resolved with the squad, we're not winning the league. Because we'll never be able to successfully go on an extended run with the above players. Also Trossard needs to hug the bench, started believing his own hype, and plays selfishly.

Arteta also needs to fix up and stop tinkering every few matches. All he's doing is unbalancing the side and compromising our strengths. Whilst he's done an incredible job, his record is also starting to look stale. 1 trophy in 5 yrs after £650m+ spent
It would be very damning if Arne or Maresca finish above him and/or he fails to win anything...again.

Excellent post. For far to long players, managers and board room have always blamed others when things do not go well instead of blaming those responsible which is themselves. Very rare do you see a player or a manager or board room level blame themselves.

Recently Stoke club director sacked their manager after only 39 days in charge because as the director put it, the manager was not the right fit for the club and owned up to making the mistake. What is interesting about this is the media reporting about it saying they were shocked to see a director make a statement like that owning up to their own mistake and you know what, it's true because very rarely do we see clubs own up to their mistakes.

Us fans are not stupid, we know when a player is not trying or when they make a mistake on the pitch. We know when the manager makes bad decisions, we know when the board room make bad decisions and yet it is always everyone else's fault except their own. I have no doubt fans would be more receptive towards players and managers and some in board level if they admitted to their mistakes/errors but in football that is extremely rare to see.

Agreed.

I remain astounded that little has been done to address the clear gaps in the squad, for none of them are new issues with us; yes, we excel at scoring from set-pieces, but remain predictably poor at converting chances from open play.

Actually, I remember reading your previous post, and mulling it over, as you make (made) some very good points.

Candidly, I do not understand and am at something of a loss as to why we bought - even contemplated buying - Sterling; he had never impressed me, as a player, irrespective of whichever club he had played for.

Nevertheless, and needless to say, while some of our imports from Chelsea have performed well (Cech, and, more recently, I must admit, to my considerable surprise, Kai Havertz, both come to mind), my heart sinks whenever I read that we are contemplating a purchase from Chelsea, recalling the disasters of David Luiz, and Willian, among others.

And I am also very mindful of the fact that the one trophy - the sole, single trophy - that we actually did win under Mikel Arteta, was won with Emiliano Martínez between the sticks, that is, Emi Martínez, who is currently possibly the best keeper in the world (if an occasionally supremely obnoxious human being, which I suspect may have been one of the reasons he was sold, - a very poor decision, to my mind - in addition to Arsenal needing the cash at the time).

I don’t care for either team but the discourse surrounding this game from the media and LFC fans was cringeworthy.

I don’t mind LFC as a club, it’s their fans i can’t stomach. There are decent ones e.g. Blackadder but my word the remaining can be nauseating.

Curious if Man Utd will actually dislodge him from Sporting

Not from what I've heard, but I haven't heard everything 😉
But from what has been reported here, Gyökeres was asked by Amorin to follow him to Man Utd, and he declined. He've had more English clubs that wanted him as well.
It has been other rumours however, with probably more substance in it, that Barcelona wanted him to replace their Lewandowski.
His contract last to 2028 with sporting btw I think.

Gyökeres had a bit of a mini dry spell with Amorim's replacement.
For some reason the team started using longer balls and plays which would require head finish instead of playing to Gyökeres strengths.
Meanwhile he was sacked (for real... and on Christmas day) and the new manager restored some of Sporting attacking prowess)

Oh dear, my local team Gillingham have sacked their manager because of a poor run of form (8 months into the job). Life of a football manager is very precarious.

Yes but even if you get sacked they pay up the rest of your contract, so not all bad!
I know we see it in the press a lot about managers getting paid off when they are sacked but surely there must be clauses in their contract when it comes to poor performances because otherwise it would just encourage managers to not perform to their best knowing if they were to get sacked their full contract term would be paid off.

Maybe this is where it has all gone wrong with players and managers because they know they do not have to perform at their best because if the club want's to get rid of them they know the club has to pay off the rest of the term of their contract.

A good point for us yesterday at Fulham. But so close to being all 3. But 4 points from Chelsea & Fulham is very good and we're right back in the chase for survival.

2 big home games next against Brighton and Manchester City after the FA Cup this weekend. Not expecting anything from City as typically they seem to be picking up again, but Brighton we could get something from.

I don’t think that’s right. Most want to do a good job in the hope they can win things or get a better club interested at least.

Remember many football managers aren’t doing it for the money. Most have already made more than a lifetimes money as a player.

City’s scoreline against us flattered them a lot. They are still weak at the back. With a decent finisher we could have been 2 up before they scored.
