The 2025-2026 Football Thread

Sunday will be interesting, the likes of West Ham and Tottenham are fighting to stay up. Plus, Bournemouth are playing for a Champions League spot (if Liverpool lose).

What a season. I love it when a team doesn't just "run away with it". But, my goodness my heart hasn't hurt so much in one season, like this season...

A little harsh, when you apply it to previous precedents!
Hope they appeal it. Oh wait, football has wrapped up the appeals process, so they can’t fully do that.
Perhaps I’ll drive to Everton’s training ground this Friday, and film then training, making sure I get caught with Tottenham apparel, and rush off. Should mean they get deducted some points!

As for Southampton yes it’s tough. But if it’s a lesser punishment (money) then everyone will start doing it.

The actual fine is nothing for them, it's the loss of the chance to gain promotion to the PL, and also the points deduction. If promoted, they get a substantial payment for achieving this in broadcast rights payment. Sure fine them, but kick them out of the playoffs, that's harsh. Meanwhile Man City continue unabated.

I am not going to predict results, so you're safe from curse right now. Tottenham are coming up against an Everton side, that are hot and cold. Scored 3 against Man City and drew, yet lose to Sunderland. Tottenham's run of positive results ended, so who knows which side will turn up. West Ham vs Leeds, what can you say to that... Leeds are safe, with nothing really to play for, West Ham are desperate.
Glad I'm a neutral (although being a Fulham supporter, our drop off this year, makes me worried for the next)

It can go either way for both of us, but the fact that a win or a draw for them or a lose or a draw for us both favours them staying up I think we will be heading down.
 
Congrats to the Arsenal. I did not enjoy the style of football they played, but they got the results required. Any team that can win this league is by definition an impressive one, and they showed real fortitude to get back on track after blowing their lead in the table against city.

I was hoping Bournemouth would sneak 5th place, but the late goal by Haaland ended that thought. Nothing else really at stake on Sunday aside from the final relegation slot, and I guess Bruno going for the assists record. Arsenal can also take it a bit easy against Palace, looking ahead to the UCL final to come.

That was exhausting and enervating, not to mention rather stressful.

Bravo, very well done, Arteta and the team.

Now, I can relax........

The Premier League was always my main - and, if I am entirely honest, my sole - priority; to win the Champions League - while it would be fantastic - would be a brilliant bonus.

That said if any team is going to mess up your teams' season it's going to be them.

I'm sad to say that I don't like your chances.

When is the last time Spurs weren't in the Prem/top level?

The last time Tottenham were outside of the top level of English football was the 1977-78 season.
Spurs were relegated from the old First Division at the end of the 1976-77 campaign. However, they secured an immediate promotion back to the top flight the following year and have remained in the highest tier ever since.
