Season Four Premier- The Americans still has it. :)

You mean season 3... don't you? :)

It's been excellent as per usual. I will hopefully get to catch every episode as they air this season, but the first two episodes have just been superb.

I might never look at a suitcase the same way again.

Is it weird to say I want Phillip to successfully defect and Elizabeth to get caught?

Somehow I got off a diget... Thanks for the correction.

I'm loving this season, Elizabeth is starting the play to turn her teen daughter Paige into a Russian spy, although Paige has grown up all American, has no idea who her parents are, and has found the church and was just baptized! I believe this has great opportunity to represent the Jenning's undoing. Fingers crossed! :)

Disturbing episode from last week.
"You think you make the world a better place by doing this?"
"I do"
"That's what evil people tell themselves."

And the poo hit the fan last night. What a way to reveal that information.

The writing on this show has always been top notch, but the last few episodes have been superb. And the acting is particularly good this season too.

I'm loving this show. I'd have hated living during the cold war, but in retrospect, it's a period I find fascinating.

I have not yet watched last nights's show...

The perception of "fingers on buttons" and the threat of world wide holocaust was prevalent. As an elementary school student in the late 50s-early 60s, I got to do the hide-under-your-desk-and-kiss-your-ass-goodbye drill. ;) But in the West at least in the US, post WWII, it was a relative economic time of plenty with the largest percentages of the population living the good Middle Class life.

Yeah, I am continually surprised at how good it gets. Both the writing and the acting.

The look on Paige's face in the last episode where Beeman comes over for dinner was priceless.

B

I was watching with bated breath wondering what words might come out of her mouth. I surprised she was not panicked because the implications would be staggering to ones perception of self, country, security and having parents as traitors. I wonder to what extreme the Jennings would go to protect their mission? I see Phillip willing to sacrifice himself for his kids if it comes down to his exposure or saving them. I wonder about Elizabeth.

When Phillip was telling Page "If you tell anyone...." and paused, I thought he was going to say "We'll have to kill you." He ultimately said "we'll go to jail for the rest of our lives" but I wouldn't put it past them to kill their own kids to save themselves and their mission.

Honesty or manipulation? ;)

Really good show. Glad to hear it's been renewed. The writing and acting have been tremendous this season. Both always were strong but wow.

My only quibble is I do not buy Frank Langella as a KGB handler. He just seems to be there as a placeholder. Unlike Margo's whose Claudia was actively involved.

He is more subtle, but I can accept him in this role. The primary difference seems to be that they have a relatively good relationship with him, visiting him at his home, which seems unwise to me, where as I recall, they always met Claudia out and about. The Paige objective could brings their relationship to a head between him and Phillip.

Good points as always Huntn, but I'll wait and see if Frank grows on me. That said, I expect him to go full villain somehow (perhaps with Paige.) He's too quiet.

I'm finally up to speed on The Americans. Phew, what a show! Just fantastic writing and acting all around. I haven't watched tonight's episode though, I'll have to wait until it's available tomorrow on iTunes.

It'll be interesting to see what Paige does with the information she's been given.
