I have never seen a MBP in real life that had marks over the glossy display due to the keyboard. So I think this is just an isolated incident of the pictures that you posted.
That's my MBP. It doesn't bother me that much, and I know that I just need to wipe the keys and screen, but just saying that I know mine does that.

What you see is what you get on MBP with anti-glare. Glossy screen will make color more vivid, but it is not what you are going to get.

Good for graphic work, not so good for popcorn time (no one needs to "print" a movie ;) ).

Does it do it just by closing the cover, or only when it's stuffed inside a bag?

Why not getting the gloss screen with a anti-glare screen protector like the one for iPad? you get the best of both worlds! Oh, and you get to keep your sexy black bezel too, although it would be anti-glared too:cool:
If you found that you like the gloss one better, you can simply remove the protector, whereas you get the anti-glare screen, you can hardly convert it into a gloss.

That makes no sense. If there's no lights on, where's the glare coming from?

Well, I still see a little glare. :)

Not really:

This one's probably all in your head...you *think* one's better, so you think you *see* one better than the other.

If one is actually better than the other, I'm willing to bet it's just because of the differences in production (all production parts have tolerances) and/or their calibration (again - tolerances from factory).

512mb = more colors. :)

Personally, matte displays are more comfortable to work with. When I do some work on my glossy iMac I need to take an eye break after two hours but not a problem with my matte Macbook Pro.
