It's flown by! Excited to see what the next four years brings to Apple Watch.

But since Series 1 and Series 2 were introduced at the same time, and were both 'current' models for their year, I suppose it is fair to call the Series 4 the fourth iteration.
Yeah, it makes sense. Nonetheless, the series 1 was simply the original apple watch with a newer processor to address the user complaints about the OG being too slow.

Most were probably given those gold watches for free to show them off before launch. Bieber, Beyonce, etc... always peculiar that the ones with the most disposable income also get the most free ****.
Like iJustine. She’s loaded, yet she gets the newest iphones for free every year for review a few days before launch day while thousands of people spend the night outside the apple stores or premium reseller stores to get one (though, to her credit, Justine did have to do that more than once back in the day before she started getting free iphones).

I love my Apple Watch (S2), but I have to admit I still have fond memories of my original Pebble, which I think delivered in March 2013. It was truly revolutionary at that time to read texts on my watch and to be able to see who was calling without taking out my phone. There was an app to pay for Starbucks.
It speaks to the dominance of the Apple brand that, on the first day I had my Pebble, people asked me if it was the new Apple "thing." Later people asked me if it was the "iWatch" -- even long before a watch was even gaining steam on the rumor sites, much less anything legit.
There was a great feeling of being a "beta tester," of being out in front of the technology. The early Pebbles didn't always work quite right, especially with iOS. But with a little bit of tinkering, they seemed borderline brilliant, particularly for the time. It reminded me a lot of the early days of computers, when even seemingly simple tasks took quite a bit of effort, and we were quite happy to do it.
Yes, I love my Apple Watch, but... the seamlessness and polish of the experience that is its best selling point, for me, is also what keeps it from feeling truly special. I love tinkering with things... and there's just not much tinkering to be done here.
Yeah, I get how you feel. I’ve felt the same every time I have use my apple watch to pay for stuff here in Mexico for the last three years (before even Samsung Pay launched), where apple pay isn’t available yet nor are there any signs of it coming in the near future.

Probably nothing being the software doesn't work anymore and if it does it's not functional (same thing). I don't even think the gold is worth anything either because it was gold with some other metal in it to make it "special" for the the Apple Watch.
The software does work. Remember that the OG apple watch, including its gold version, got upgrades up until watchOS 4.2, which already offers many if not most of the features found in the current software version (watchOS 5), so it’s still somewhat functional for now. Besides, the case is made of gold so it makes it a rare collectible (or will make it in the future)

Series 1 was a cheaper version of the Series 2 and was launched on the same day. I think most consider Series 1 and 2 to be of the same "generation".
I’d say OG and series 1 would be of the same generation, since they’re both essentially the same except for the processor (because people complained the OG was too damn slow, apple updated its processor and called it series 1 instead of just leaving the OG in the lineup unchanged as the “cheap” option)

I am still wearing the original (S0) every day. But at this point I MIGHT be tempted to upgrade to S5 this fall
From the original, even the series 4 is a worthy update. I did it and I really felt the difference from one to the other. Not to mention that the S0 no longer gets software updates.

Same here. I still have my Series 0. With a few exceptions, I've worn it every single day for nearly four nears. Still get a full day's battery. Take calls, use Apple Pay, record my workouts, etc. etc. Amazing device. Show me another smart watch or fitness band that works this good after four years -- I bet you can't!
Eventually I'll upgrade, but Kudos to Apple for making a spectacular product right from the beginning!
I suggest you do upgrade. From series 0 to series 4 it’s really worth it. And if you do use apple pay, you may want to know that watchOS 5 (not available for series 0, so you’d need to upgrade) enabled the recent transaction list and push notifications for purchases made using the apple watch, just like we’ve had them in the wallet app for years for purchases made using the iphone.
