my bad. somehow i missed that. thanks.

as for the price, putting things in perspective, a Tissot T-Touch (steel, sapphire) will cost you at least $700. List price is something like $1,000. I think $550 is fair considering the market and all that this thing does.

My concern isn't with the price of the SS case. It's reasonably priced.... it's $449 for a freaking stainless steel bracelet that is blowing my mind right now.

They really expect to sell these in mass? Obviously they understand the market far better than I do.

I think the Sport is the mass market device. The stainless steel, less so, and obviously the Edition will be in very small numbers. I guess I just struggle to see why anyone would pay more for materials alone. The watches are all functionally the same, you are just fattening Apple pockets by overpaying for materials. A fool and his money...

looks like there will be a lot of poor people complaining in this thread....

I really wanted the silver aluminum with black plastic band - but it's not an option in the store. So I'll get the grey aluminum with black band. Hmph.

So much for "personal".

Then don't expect to sell them "en mass" ;)

They said they'll be in limited quantities, and in select stores.

I really think the gold version is not about making money off of them, which of course they will, but it's more about saying, "Our watches are so good, it warrants a gold version."

That in and of itself sells more watches.

I'm not talking about the gold watch.. I'm talking about the stainless steel link bracelet.

Thanks for the direct link.

Under "Dimensions", the page gives the weight of the cases:
  • 38mm yellow gold: 55g
  • 38mm rose gold: 54g
  • 42mm yellow gold: 69g
  • 42mm rose gold: 67g

So no more guessing is needed with respect to the gold content.

Does that include the internals?

i hope it flops to give apple a reality check. i wonder what their goal in sales is. i cant see many < 25 year olds getting one considering how much the iPhone already costs, add the first Watch that looks fairly decent and you are looking at something like $1.500

I have heard rumors of speculating 9 million units per year... yes that is ridiculous imho. However if they sell a third of that (3 million units) it is AT LEAST $1 Billion in revenue. I say at least, because that would be in the case all 3 million users buy the base $350 model.

I do not think it will be a grand slam for Apple, but I for one would like to try one at the $350 price just to have a fun watch in my collection.

So here's a little reality check: I mentioned the prices to a few friends just now. These are middle-upper classers that own several Apple products. To a person, they all thought this was way overpriced and would not consider ANY of the watches at their current price points.

I get what Apple is going for. I respect their attempt to make this a fashion accessory more than a tech product. But I suspect the general population will not go along with it, and my very brief and informal survey supports this idea.

To be successful Apple will essentially be re-branding itself here. There's a very good chance it will not end well.

$10k for the watch itself and an additional SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS for a small pink leather strap.

Oh yes, I actually realized that after posting. Well, the strap does appear to have a lot of gold on it. Or they could just be screwing with everyone.

Canadian Apple Watch prices are horrendous!

Yeh messed up for a sport and black band its gonna come to like 560 570.

smh canadian dollar.

Certainly made my purchase decision easier. :D
Sport!

Incidentally, I was surprised the milanese loop is the same price as the leather band ($149).

The case prices didn't surprise me and were spot on. What shocks me is that the SS and Edition come with rubber bands. Rubber. ******. Bands.

It's brutal, I WAS determined to get the SS version but there's no way I'm paying those prices for an unproven "smart watch".... There's not many Apple fans bigger than me, but it doesn't mean that I'm gonna blow over $1000 on a wrist notification system.
I'm getting the 42mm Space Grey Sport now instead.

To be honest (slightly off topic here), some of the bull & self-praise during today's presenting really bothered me, it really was an arrogant reveal.

Cheaper than I expected by a long shot!

Cannot wait!!

I definitely was pleasantly surprised by the stainless steel pricing.

I guess my dreams of a $7,500 Edition were dashed, but I think at $1049 space black stainless steel link band will suffice. And with the money I'll save, I can get a new MacBook! :D

Why not get the $649 stainless steel with Milanese loop band?

----------

It's EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE in the UK....

£5500.
= $8300 at today's rate.

EIGHT THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS.......

for a STRAP!

**** me

Well, it's actually cheaper in the UK when you figure the 20% VAT is included in your price.

Considering that the CAD is 1.26 to the USD, those prices aren't that bad.

How dare Apple make a product and charge more than I want to pay. I'm offended.
Companies should first and foremost think about how much I want to pay. And any person willing to pay more than me is STUPID. A company that makes a product more expensive than I want is GREEDY. I hope the Apple Watch FAILS because I'm not it's target consumer.

That'll do.

Looks would be the primary reason to go for the stainless steel. This is mostly just an accessory. If I'm going to buy a $700 watch, with the Apple Watch at least I get something that has some functionality. Who cares if the Sport is $350 if I don't like the look?

The Edition is a halo product. Someone will buy it, mostly as a status symbol. I think China might be its biggest market.
