The $100 rebate requires a 2 year agreement.

Not true. You can signup for the $20 plan and cancel it anytime. You don't sign any agreements/contracts. In fact, I called AT&T customer service and they said the same thing. With or without the rebate, there's no contract associated with the $20 unlimited microcell plan. You can cancel anytime.

You are misinformed and misinforming. You only need to have the plan long enough to receive the rebate, about 8 weeks. I have the receipt for adding the plan and the rebate form in front of me and neither have any conditions about commitment period.

I just noticed that the voice side fails after awhile. I tried to put my iphone 4 on airplane mode and then back online. That seemed to have fixed the 'call failed' issue. But, after a few minutes, I tried calling out and I got 'call failed' and I tried calling the iphone from my house phone and I got an 'unavailable' message. Data seems to work as I can text and I get emails. It's just the incoming and outgoing calls that seem to fail after awhile?

Anyone have any solutions for this issue?

I cannot seem to get my MicroCell activated. I get solid green for power, internet, and GPS. Flashing green for 3G. Anybody have issues with activation? I called customer support with no headway. I've tried for about 8 hours with all configurations. Thanks in advance

The current $100 rebate form clearly and specifically requires the calling plan.

I will admit that I did not read the form thoroughly as I was in a big hurry. She filled out the form for me and cut the serial number out from the box and had it all ready for me to mail. She did ask me if I wanted the extra calling plan and I said no, my minutes were enough. I remember her also saying that the extra minutes were for people that gave up their landlines and needed it?!

My account shows no added costs so far.

Just a quick question to microcell owners.

Where do you have your microcell hooked up? Do you go through cement at all? How does your reception, and service work when going through cement? I'm having a serious issue with mine, I'm gonna go exchange it with hopes of that working.

Thanks!

Have you received your rebate? If not, you likely won't without the plan. The rebate form I have is crystal clear about that requirement.

I have mine on a window sill so it has a crisp clear view of the world outside. It says in the manual somewhere that next to a window is best I think. I have no problem with running cat5 cable to my router, because I have access to bulk cable and just cut the length I need and crimp on the ends

I haven't had any issues with calls yet, but I'm not a super heave caller or anything.

I have mine downstairs. Cinderblock + brick, front, sides and rear. Plus drywall and insulation. Lots of windows and doors down there as well. Covers the entire house (upstairs/down/outside). Even into the driveway. 4000 sq ft of home.

Same here. Sits right under a window. Nice clear view.

I bought one yesterday... showed 5 bars but call quality was garbled... Looked at the troubleshooting tips and made suggested changes to my wifi router settings and now calls are crystal clear. But I have noticed that there is a lag in the calls. kind of like routing via satellite. Anyone else having this trouble?

I have a feeling the microcells are working fine to talk to your cellphones but AT&T's microcell routing servers are getting hammered due to the global rollout and thats why you are probably seeing delays/garbleing. I was going to get a microcell but now i think I'm going to wait until AT&T resolves this.

interesting, do you have a wireless router? is it anywhere near the microcell?

and seriously, does it make that big of a difference whether or not its near a window?

I got off the phone with an AT&T rep not too long ago, and she said it could be because it is near the wireless router so I moved it. I moved it the opposite way of a window....but will move it right near the window if this fails

Thanks. I did dig out that copy of the rebate form and sure enough there is a big check mark for option c lol. Not sure how I missed that.

Anyway no rebate for me it looks like. I purchased it 5/26. Its unplugged right now because my DSL was down all day yesterday. Its back up now but have not reinstalled the Microcell yet.

I have a wireless router, yes. My wireless router is downstairs in a nook. It is literally the center of the house from all sides. I can't put the Mcell there because there are no windows. So I put it a bit off center but not much, right under a window. It doesn't get much better than this unless it's outside. Lol.

I tried not placing it near the window, near the router. No go. I tried not near a window and not near the router. No go. GPS would not lock and in turn, it would not work.

Your best option if you can't run a big cable is using an external GPS antenna. Most are 16 feet. I am thinking of doing this myself.

nah man, mine connects to GPS no prob....I was just experiencing call failures, choppiness, lag, and low signal bars.

As an update, I moved the microcell as far as the power cord would let it go. Now it is about 5 ft away from the router, and about 12 ft from a window. It seemed to help, I just got off a 10 min phone call, all the way in the back of my room which is where I would always lose somebody or serious choppiness would occur after only 10 seconds. At one point there was only 1 bar, but there was no choppiness or lag....it may have just been because it was 1 1/2 ft from the wireless router, just as the AT&T rep said.....

I talked to a rep (you can view what I wrote on this page, of this thread) and mentioned I had a little lag at the beginning of owning the microcell, but no longer. She said that was caused by a slow internet connection.

maybe it was really slow that day or something! because really, it was only that one time....maybe try restarting your phone, wireless router, modem and microcell at the same time?

Yeah, it states at least 3 feet from a wireless router/device.

My Mcell today had some weird issue with calls. It sounded like the person I was talking to was on a very bumpy road and I only hear every other partial word. Was terrible. Some calls had no issue. So I unplugged it and plugged it back in. No issues yet. It's a new item, I am sure there will be some bugs. As long as they fix it, it's ok with me :)

It's alleviated the bad signal in the house. Full bars throughout now.

ah okay good to hear, I don't really read the "recommendations" i just bypass it.

thanks for the help! hopefully this works

No one has any problems receiving and making calls on their iPhone 4 using Microcell? For me, only the data portion (eg. text, push email, web) are working thru the Microcell. The voice portion only works for a few minutes if I reset my iPhone 4.

Jettie...

I'm having the same problem that you are describing. I had no issue with my iPhone 3G, but my iPhone 4 will say it has a full 5 bars of service from my M-Cell and consistently display "Call Failed" when I try to dial out. When someone tries to call me, it will say "Subscriber is unavailable", or something like that. Any clue on this at all?
