I'll be first in line for this device when it's made available in the Phoenix area. I'm sick of ONE BAR EDGE all over my apartment complex. At least I'll be able to make calls out of my own home soon.

honestly, it is stipid that we have to buy a device that does this. Look at all the Tmobile UMA phones, they only need a wifi connection, not a separate device

I'd love to hear from anyone using a MicroCell in the Cary, NC area with a Time Warner cable modem. How is your call quality? Any problems when transitioning from MicroCell to regular tower while making a call?

I'm in Cary with Time Warner and so far have had no issues.
It is all running through a Time Capsule.
Call quality is so far so good, not quite as crisp as when full signal on the network, but more than acceptable for home.

The call quality issues that I'm having seem to be resolved, long story, but I was able to change some modem settings and put the Microcell in priority mode.

The only problem is, when I go to the opposite side of my small house, the phone switches over to the AT&T EDGE network and doesn't stay on the Microcell. When I go back to the other side of the house, it doesn't switch back (as expected) and the call drops.

Anybody having this issue and have solutions?

If you are on a call on Microcell, and then roll off to EDGE, that should work fine. It will not switch from EDGE back to Microcell, but not sure why the call would drop. It should just stay EDGE until you finish the call.

At least that is what I was lead to believe.

Yes, dont walk over to that side of the house....OK, sorry could not resist! ;)

Probably drops because you have no service, not even EDGE, right?

Has anyone found it to handoff from EDGE/3G back to the Microcell yet? Seems it will go off the Microcell to EDGE/3G but not back on. Right?

Quick question

A question for those of you that bought microcells from the ATT store:

What information did you have to give the ATT sales people in the store? Phone number? Address? I'm curious because I'll be in the Raleigh area this weekend and might try to pick up a microcell to play with.

Cheers!

Yeah, that's true, but it drops the call because if I walk back to the other side of the house, there is no service there, even EDGE, so the call drops.

No, it states in the manual that calls transfer out of the microcell but not back in.

They asked for photo ID and the primary mobile number to be associated with the Microcell. If the billing address of the primary mobile was not in the launch market areas (Raleigh or Charlotte) they will not sell you the device.

You are aware that the device will not work outside Raleigh or Charlotte right now?

Bought one last Saturday because a lost call can cost me more than $150 and so far, it's Friday and still not working.

Something about it's not reporting the GPS coordinates properly even though it gets a GPS lock (light) within a minute after reboot.

So perhaps their testing wasn't sufficient before releasing it in the test markets?

Would be interested if anyone in the Huntersville or Charlotte area has the same problem.

I bought one this morning in Cary and so far it is working great. For the first time in months I am now able to carry on a conversation with my wife while she is at home without the call being dropped. Reception was crystal clear. It took about an hour for the setup to take place and I got a text message when it was all ready. My plan is, if this continues to work this great, to cancel my Vonage account and transfer that number to my wife's iPhone. I will save enough by canceling Vonage to pay for the Microcell in 6 months.

I had the same problem with the GPS location in Cary. Support did something on their side to let the activation go through. The rep said the device was reporting outside the allowed service area, even though I was in Cary.

Has anybody tried using Bittorent while the Microcell is in priority mode?

I was trying to download some things earlier, legal thank you very much, and Transmission my BT client is telling me that all of my ports are close. I know nothing about this stuff except that it worked before I had the Microcell. Anybody have any idea how I could fix this?

anybody

here when they are going to national or at least ad a few more cities I hoping to use some AT&T gift cards to get mine. or at least pay for most of it they are from the AT&T refer a friend so it be like AT&T was buying it. :D

I was just getting ready to post about torrent downloads .... I just kicked off a bulk download of some episodes of a British Television show we do not get in the states and kicked off about 13 simultaneous torrents (via Vuze.)

The downloads were running fine, but it must have taken away too much bandwidth from the Microcell. My iPhone just said "Searching ...." and I ended up having to just unplug the Microcell to be able to use my phone.

I'll plug it back in again once I am done downloading, but this is the first "issue" I have had with it and I've got a little over 300 microcell minutes logged so far.

For the poster a few up that was asking about GPS issues in Huntersville .... I am near Birkdale and had no issues with GPS and authentication.

The ATT microcell website now says it is available in the Atlanta area. So...either it comes out there today (sunday) or tomorrow (monday).

What is your setup (priority mode, router type, etc). Sounds like you have a QoS issue. I just ordered one of these (http://www.hawkingtech.com/products/productlist.php?CatID=36&FamID=80&ProdID=216) as my Airport Extreme doesn't support QoS and I don't want to move the Microcell to put it in priority mode from it's current location in my house.

I just wanted to post an update on my MicroCell experience after having it 3 days. Man, this device has made all the difference in the world as far as my happiness with AT&T and my iPhone. I just got off the phone from talking with my wife for about 10 minutes. Previously my call would have been dropped within 10-20 seconds. The call itself was crystal clear. I get at least 4 bars all over my house and five bars when on the first floor where the MicroCell is located. I have noticed when at the very farthest part of my house, I hear a very slight hollow type sound but as I move closer the sound is perfect. I really couldn't be happier with the unit and it is well worth the $150. I now plan to transport our Vonage home phone number to my wife's iPhone and the savings from Vonage will pay for the MicroCell in about 5 months.
