Very interesting! Did you attempt to log into it? Do you remember what the prompt looked like if you did? I've heard these units are made by cisco so trying the default cisco password set was a good idea. Have you tried things like the serial numbers on the box? Perhaps an nmap OS fingerprint would be useful...

Just a few ideas ;)

I tried several typical default passwords as well as known Cisco default passwords. NMAP only returned port 22 open for me, and SSH does prompt.

Has anyone had any problems connecting to their WiFi router after installing a MicroCell? For some odd reason my WiFi connection with my Mac mini keeps dropping. This began after I installed my MicroCell. Anyone else had this problem?

Is your microcell located near your mini or router? The manual says to have the microcell at least a few feet from your router.

With CTIA (wireless phone con) going on, I am surprised ATT has not announced a launch date for the 3G microcell. Is anyone here at CTIA and has heard anything about a national release?

This is what I'd like to know, as well.

Since the Microcell is only available in North Carolina, is it possible to stop in one of there stores if you live outside the soft launch area and pick up one of these Microcells?

No, please read the thread. They will only sell you one and it will only function in the designated launch areas (Charlotte, Raleigh and Atlanta).

And it may not function then! I've had 4 calls today -- first initiated by me . . to tell me when they will have a resolution. They want to do some more testing but apparently can't find anyone to do the testing!

It's working!! Day 13 and an hour on the phone with a team of engineers and I remembered a VOIP optimizer (Linksys OCV-200) buried in the basement between my DSL modem and Router.

Apparently it changes the MTU and prevented the 3G from making VPN connections. I think it was basically useless in the Vonage calls, so I yanked it, rebooted the 3G and 10 minutes later we're micro celling.

Five bars anywhere in the house / out on the deck (where I had 5 3G bars before) and first few calls, voice quality is equally as good.

Case closed.

Same exact problem I had with the Hawking Technology broadband booster. Glad to see you finally got it resolved.

Lesson to anyone planning on getting a Microcell: Anything that modifies the MTU upstream from the Microcell will not work.

I bet AT&T will probably add this to their FAQ/Troubleshooting.

Since this has come up a few times now...and the fact that many people with VOIP might have these.

The engineers said they had found two different brands of devices like mine. I had forgotten it was tucked away between my dsl modem in the basement and my wireless 600N router in the office until I was looking at my list of equipment while talking with them.

Fortunately, I keep a notepad listing of everything on my network with current IPs (mostly static), MAC addresses, Model #, Ser#, and any notes about default settings / logins / passwords.

Those details come in handy 6 months later.

Intersting 3G Issue

Leaving uptown Charlotte on the bus today, I lost 3G signal (it is still not back) all the way to Huntersville.

At first I was worried that mayby my 3.1.2 upgrade last night messed something up, but got home and have 3G just fine via the microcell. EDGE seemed to be working ok.

I tested both my phone (3.1.2) and my wife's phone (3.1) by going outside until I lost 3G and verified that it looks like parts of Charlotte are having 3G issues this afternoon.

Maybe they are upgrading to HDMA 7.2?

In any case, the microcell is doing it's job in and outside the house for a good 20+ feet.

Interesting, I lost my microcell around 3pm today. . . took a reboot of it and iiPhone reboot to get it back around 5:30. . . and a call to support

Same here. Cannot get 3G signal in Huntersville. Saw a bunch of utility trucks at a Tower yesterday. Hopefully 7.2 is on its way

Some more 3g microcell news:

I totally missed it, but the 3g microcell was also released in Columbia, SC this week (also with atlanta)

http://3ginthehome.wordpress.com/

Also, promotional flyers are hitting atlanta this week

http://mobiquizoid.blogspot.com/2009/10/this-just-in-at-3g-microcell-for-sale.html

The interesting part is how the unlimited plan pricing is different in Atlanta. They must be messing around with rebate pricing and unlimited microcell pricing in these test launch areas. I dont care about the unlimited plan, so it really does not affect me.

Has anyone had any problems connecting to their WiFi router after installing a MicroCell? For some odd reason my WiFi connection with my Mac mini keeps dropping. This began after I installed my MicroCell. Anyone else had this problem?

I installed a MicroCell for a friend and a couple days later her AT&T DSL internet stopped working. She called AT&T and they had her wire the computer instead of using wifi - which worked. But her bars come and go with the MicroCell and she's having trouble getting voicemail. I don't know if her wireless router is defective or not yet.

I haven't been over to see any of this yet. But I have serious concerns that her AT&T DSL is not up to the task. She's got one of the slower tier DSL connections, but from what I've seen everything except the top tier has abysmal upstream speed.

I'm going to have her upgrade to faster DSL and hopefully they'll send a new modem. Hers is way old.

But it seems ridiculous - she has all AT&T service and she goes and buys this Microcell and now she has to get better DSL because none of AT&Ts services are good enough??? I feel kind of stupid for suggesting the MicroCell and now telling her she needs to throw more money at the problem.

fingers crossed

that this will be released as AT&T says by the end of the year. I will be saving my Referral bucks to pay for it. I have $125 total coming so this will help pay for most of it. AT&T will basically be buying my microcell as they should.

Not So Good Microcell Day

Well, today has been an "off day" for the Microcell. I have been on 4 conference calls so far today. All have either ended by me hanging up because people have been complaining of me cutting out on them, or the connection eventually getting "staticky" and then the call dropping.

All calls seem to last at least 10 minutes or more before the issues started occurring. I moved my Microcell to "priority mode" and I even turned off wi-fi on my iPhone.

I have a few more hours of calls (a training session) this afternoon so we will see what happens. Maybe these things have "off days" or are subject to traffic or limitations when eventually connecting back up to AT&T's network.

I am having literally the EXACT same problem! After a week of trying to get ahold of somebody who knows what they are talking about, I'm on the phone with AT&T right now waiting for my Microcell to restart so that I can make a test call.

I will report back with what happens.

EDIT: They told me that it is a known issue. They had me make some calls so that they could have logs, but they said it might take a while for it to be fixed =/ They have until Monday, that's when the return period ends for me.
