And last, I find it amusing that some people rag on T-Mobile. I've had T-Mobile since it was called Voicestream, and have had zero problems with it. I know a ton of people who absolutely despise AT&T. Funny, huh?

This said, if my IBM discount for plans works, I'll get the new iPhone. If it doesn't, I won't! Quite simple.
I've been with AT&T since the PB Wireless days and I havent had a single issue. I know others who've had TMobile and they hate it. Just because you hate AT&T doesnt mean everyone else does. Let's see if TMobile will throw you a cookie for being their loyal advocate.
I thought you hate at&t and everything about at&t. Why bother even try to get a discount when you know your gonna hate the service.
Where did I say I hate AT&T? I've called them and gotten zero assistance regarding where IBM discounts will apply, but I don't hate the actual AT&T service personally. I've never used it!
I'm in the exact same boat as you. I'm paying $49/month for 1500 anytime minutes, and unlimited data (blackberry on T-mobile).
It makes me think twice about getting a iPhone. I still plan to get the iPhone, but it irks me to think that I'll be paying a heck of a lot more money each month...for less.
People in this forum will argue that you get the "amazing, new, fantastic, magical" 3G...but IMO, it's not worth that much of a price difference. AT&T is ripping us off...that's for sure.
Can I call you Will ? I feel like I know you now
Apologize for misquoting you there... go here to find out.

type in your IBM email address and you will receive an email with a link to the premier site. When you click on the link, it should take you directly to the Premier site and it should explain to you about your benefits.
Hehe. Yes you can call me Will.
I have the Premier site link, and it does say 23% off voice and data plans, but AT&T seemed to be under the impression that does not include iPhones. They seemed REALLY clueless. And that was after speaking to two different people.
If I can get 23% off a family plan, I'd go for it. But nobody seems to know anything, in typical Apple/AT&T style. I'll just have to wait till the thing is out..

Funny, huh?opinions are like *** holes and at the end of the day you can hate at&t, have every person you know want them to drop out of the cellular market completely but they are the ones with the iPhone

I'm with you, T-Mobile buddy! I've been with them since Voicestream days, too. T-Mobile rulez, AT&T drools.
t-mobile hasnt had any good phones in a long time. they're behind. i paid the $200 cancellation fee because i got sick of waiting for them to come out with something good. i'm glad i paid it because id rather have an iphone.

OK, so I guess I'll rephrase.
AT&T suck at making it clear on their website that people owning existing iPhones get the $199/$299 price. In fact, there's zero indication of that unless (apparently) you log in to your account. .
From AT&T's page:
"What will I pay for iPhone 3G?
If you are upgrade eligible and your account is in good standing, you will pay $199 for 8GB (black) and $299 for 16GB (black or white). Two-year contract required.
You have the option to purchase an early upgrade priced at $399 for 8GB (black) or $499 for 16GB (black or white). Two-year contract required. Coming soon, AT&T will offer a no-commitment option of $599 for 8GB and $699 for 16GB.
Took the words right out of my mouth. I've been a looongtime customer (since before Cingular) and have never had a single issue with them.
One question I have though, WilliamG...How can you make a phrase like "typical AT&T" if you've never had service with them??Based on this one experience where you're dealing with CSRs who are fielding questions regarding not only a new product, but a new pricing schematic that differs from the current policies regarding the iPhone?
.
What? You posted the info yourself!
In the end, it is business and you can't stay in business without making money correct??? No one does anything for free or at cost.
u got your sidekick... what else would you need.
I hope you paid that to get a 3G iPhone...because I have Tmobile AND an iPhone...I mean I have Tmo ON my iPhone.
but you're right about Tmo's poop phones.

And we as a nation could do something about that. But no one will stand together and unite for something. But completely separate issue.
