what store do you work at?
Clam down guys, I don't work at an Apple store. I work at a Target in CO.

Surely not.

Anyway, that is a pretty aggressive drop. It will be interesting to see what Apple has in mind pricing-wise now.
We've sold 1 Zune in 2 months. It's a bloody waste of company space and money in my opinion.

1 more note:

I did find this Macworld article an interesting read. Especially for this bit:
Wolf suspects Apple has more up its sleeve than just a refresh to the existing product line.

“I would say inferentially if it’s merely upgrades to the iPod line, they wouldn’t use the Moscone Center,” Wolf added. “The last time they used the Moscone Center on their own [outside of a Macworld Expo or WWDC] was when they launched iTunes for Windows.”
I think he's on to something.

My own crazy predictions:

-Shuffle price going down to $49

-iPod nano remains in the same form factor, with updated interface, new features (themes & backgrounds?) Maybe the click-wheel will light up like in the ads? Price drops: 2GB $99, 4GB $149 and 8GB for $199

-The current full-size iPod becomes what the "Fat nano" pictures were showing and goes all flash. Same updated interface and features as the new nano, supports current iPod games. 16 GB $249, 32GB $299.

-iPod Touch, wide-screen touch-screen HDD iPod. Runs OS X, has cover-flow , some apps and new games (these will also run on the iPhone). 60GB $349, 100GB for $429. Wifi, Safari and YouTube may or may not be included, but in any case, Bluetooth will be present. I'm not sure about the price, HDD capacities and the Wifi aspect, mainly because of the "iPhone cannibalization" problem.

-Wireless Bluetooth remote. Since it's hard to operate a touch-screen music player without looking (lack of tactile feedback), a new Bluetooth wireless remote is introduced for the iPod touch, but will also work with the iPhone. Shaped like a shuffle, but with a distinctive mark (black case?), you can plug any headphone you want and control your touch screen iPod or iPhone without having to look at the screen.

-Beatles announcement.

-TV shows and movies announcements, new countries? Europe and Canada?

-Some Apple TV stuff to try to get this thing off the ground.

Launching the next generation iPod is a huge huge thing, especially if it's the phoneless-iPhone that everyone is expecting.

It's definitely big enough for them to rent out the Moscone.

So... kinda random, but i looked around and cant find the answer.

What time is the event???

Thoughts for tomorrow

Thinking that tomorrow will present:

A much needed official iphone update.... sms upgrade, im client, and more... they've had a few months... let's bring it on..

Ipod: new larger 120gb at 449, smaller upgrades at 40/80 gigs at 299/349. Hopefully supporting bluetooth stereo which will be supported by an apple bluetooth stereo headset @ $99. Usable on iphone as well..

Nano: 12/16 gig versions w/ flash. guess the pricepoint ~ 200-250....

iphone ringtones... supported and sold via itunes today...

One more thing.... Beatles catalog now online w/ performance by mccartney and ringo starr for journalists..

main reasoning behind the Beatles prediction is that it's a 2000 seat arena "full" of analysts, press, and media rep's... I'm an apple fan and supporter, but Jobs will pimp this presentation like no other...

What time is the event???

*sigh*

This is the kind of thing I wish all the sites would post at these kinds of events:

Here are the corresponding times for the event in different time zones:
7:00AM - Hawaii
10:00AM - Pacific
11:00AM - Mountain
12:00PM - Central
1:00PM - Eastern
5:00PM - GMT
6:00PM - London
7:00PM - Paris
2:00AM - Tokyo (September 6th)
3:00AM - Brisbane/Sydney

Yeah. But the fact that they're renting such a big place as the Moscone lends more credence to the rumour that they might announce Beatles on iTunes. Even thought every time an apple event creep up theres always supposed to be beatles.

If they add wi-fi on the iPod I could only imagine the possibilities and things they could even do with that through software updates.

There is no "official press release". There is however an official invitation, which you can see in the story this thread is linked from. You can interpret the invitation to be for a Logic event or whatever. But there is widespread agreement that it's an ipod event, you're in a tiny minority.

You misunderstand, it's time for an ipod change in the channel and that will be the meat and potato's of the event I agree. However when ilife 08 was released they completely changed the .aiff file format in garage band to .caf a much friendlier surround sound format. It's left logic pro users completely screwed if they install ilife 08 by overwriting the libraries. Since I believe SJ will say the magic words "and you can pre order or maybe even OS 10.5 is available starting today" I was hoping for a logic 8 release. They already did it with final cut pro and Logic Pro wont run 64 bit in it's current form. I never speculated a logic only event nor did I ever come close to communicating that in any way.

Shipping...

l listen here guys! My best friend just called an Apple store in the UK, and asked the sales man if the product that is launched today will be ready to purchase straight away, and he told my friend... 'Recently through the years, most of the time Apple has launched a product, it is within the store and ready to go on sale immediately... But I'm not saying any more than that...'

So I guess we both will be buying the iPod tomorrow on my birthday! :)

So excited!
:)

I would like to go on record predicting that the MacBook will receive an aluminum enclosure.

Yeah i saw that mockup earlier on, and I would be very happy if that was it. It's really cool, and goes perfectly with the new aluminium/glass theme that Apple seem to be into.

I heard a radio commercial yesterday promoting apple's student, buy a imac/macbook and receive a free ipod nano. It was voiced by a DJ on a major market and it made reference to the new macbook and imac with aluminum enclosures. Made me wonder if it aired to soon. Probably not, but interesting.
