Usually the front pockets of women pants aren't as roomy as men pants are so that's why the phone goes in the back. They don't carry wallets, smallest I've seen are clutches and an iPhone can go in that.

I've put my 4s in my back pocket plenty of times. Never bent or cracked the screen. Haven't done it with my 5 yet.

I usually only throw it in my back pocket when my hands are either full or need to be free, and my keys and other items are in my front two pockets.

I always try to make sure my iPhone is in its own pocket. No matter which pocket I use.

Agreed.. I always make sure there's nothing in the pocket with the phone. :)

I think that is why the front pocket doesn't work well for me. I wear jeans most days.

Putting it in a different pocket is the most logical choice IMO; I keep mine in my front pocket. You've said you don't like how it feels though, and the supposed safety issues and lack of supporting shirts with breast pockets rule that option out as well.

If the only reason you're ruling out a holster/belt pouch is because it looks geeky...I mean no offense, but how chic do you plan on looking hauling around a diaper bag and pushing a stroller? Personally, I find belt clips/cases uncomfortable, so I don't use them - but if looking geeky is your only hangup with them, I recommend just sucking it up and using one if you're looking to get the phone out of your back pocket.

A wristlet just seems like a silly solution, to be honest. I can't imagine a cell phone hanging off my wrist for any period of time. It could slip off, swing around like a pendulum and whack something, it's uncomfortable, and far dumber looking than a belt pouch as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not sure if there are any armband type cases that you can access the phone easily...may be something to look into, but it wouldn't be my cup of tea. I've also seen an iPhone belt buckle case somewhere. Probably not available for the 5 yet though, as I doubt there's a large market for them.

The only other option is to just continue carrying it in the back pocket...if all your previous phones have all been fine doing so, then maybe it's worth the gamble. Maybe it'll break. Maybe it'll be fine the whole time you own it. Like someone else mentioned, the variables of what you sit on, how quickly you sit, your weight/physique, placement of the pocket on the pants, etc. make it impossible to tell how safe it'll be in your back pocket.

I don't always bring my diaper bag... But my stuff is in there in the car vs in a purse. The repacking it for each trip is too time consuming. So when possible, I just grab my keys, wallet if necessary and phone. I get how uncool it is to have the stroller and diaper bag etc... But I have tried picking ones that are as cool as possible;).

I dunno about you but there's no more room for stuff in my bra. The boobies currently kind of take up all of the space.

Yep... Seems they don't have much expertise in the bra department;). If you have enough space for your phone in your bra... You are wearing the wrong one.

Put it in your front pocket. It doesn't matter how it feels there if it still works after it's being stored. Is very mild discomfort worth $50 twice over a two year period worth it to you? If so, then keep on putting it in your back pocket.

Every time I get on this forum, I question the sanity of society as a whole. Then I realize the general type of people that use this forum are either the OCD types or the careless types. But then there's the OP, who will knowingly inflict monetary damage on herself when it could quite easily be prevented.

I agree with you. I can't understand why some people treat things like crap and then fall back on Applecare+ or insurance to fix what could have been easily prevented in the first place. The world is going to crap and this type of behavior is a part of the problem.

The iPhone 5 is so light and thin I can't see how anyone could complain about carrying it in a front pocket.

If I were you, I'd get a cross-body purse. I completely understand your need to be hands free. However, I don't think its smart to sit on your iPhone. You just sling the purse over your head and its basically attached to your hip, you're not sitting on it, its not around your wrist, completely hands free. Plus, if you ever happen to go out without your child, you're not fishing through the diaperbag trying to find your license/money/insurance cards. Everything is right there in your bag.

Put it any where you want. Its your phone OP, but don't ever come back here someday, and complain that your phone has a slight bend or it got busted. For me, I got some common sense that tells me never put an expensive cell phone in the back pocked. ;)

I use a leather pouch to protect my phone..

You could also try strapping it to your head, thus freeing up an extra pocket.

My order of preference:
a) front pants pocket (right side if wearing Dockers or any loose fitting pants)
b) back pocket (right side if wearing denim jeans)
c) shirt pocket (if it has one)

Always by itself in any pocket it is in. No need to take out even if I sit if (a) or (c). Would definitely take out if (b). The wife is just like you, back jeans' pocket and sits without a care until I educated her of the recent postings about the new iP5 possibly bending due to softer casing compared to the iP4.

I guess it is okay, cause that is what AC+ is for.

I don't think too many women wear loose fitting Dockers or shirts with front pockets :roll eyes:

Most women don't put objects like the iPhone in a front pocket. Because of how our clothes fit and our shape with our hips makes it uncomfortable. Especially when sitting. Mens pants are usually much looser in the front for more then one reason. So there is more room to keep 'objects' in the front pockets.

How are those tight jeans comfortable to wear I have no idea, especially all day long. Now I see a lot of women shamelessly showing off their layers of fat on their 2 sizes to small bras, jeans, shirts, etc., and some goes right up their... No offense but its ridiculous, and even uncomfortable for me as a guy to even see that.

I wear Levi 501, straight boots. They're regular fit, not loose ("relaxed") in any way. Rarely do I see girls in these but they still look great.

Well you can say the same for guys in slim fitting suits. I wear them and you get used to it after a while. At first it felt really tight, but you soon figure that the clothes are form fitting and does look good.

I need to point out one thing, however. There is a difference between form fitting and tight.

I do understand the difference. It's just I see right above the jeans belt, their fat starts to really hang out. My god. It makes me wonder how they fit in those in the morning.

I think if your phone can't be put in a jeans pocket, front or back, without it being a struggle, the phone is probably not the problem. Do they make women dress pants that can fit an iPhone? I can't seem to imagine why women's jeans front pocket are so uselessly small. Try something with more room.

The way it is now, they were it too close to their body, so the phone doesn't take the shape of their body when they bend down. If they put it on their back, it becomes tangent to their rear. That's just unfortunate.

Well, OP. You don't want to:
  • Put in your pockets.
  • Put in your purse/diaper bag/clutch.
  • Hold it in your hand.
  • Wear it on your belt.
  • Put it in your undergarments.
  • Etc.
Short of suspending it from a bunch of helium-filled balloons I don't see any other choices.

We still haven't heard the OP's opinion on strapping it to their head...

Let's not count out everything yet.

This thread was started by a woman. OP wants to just talk about it, not find a solution. She was just seeing if there was anyone else who carried it in the back pocket. OP was not looking for a solution, as the original question was "Anyone else knowingly sit on their phones?" Anyone with a wife should know this..lol

That being said, nobody in their right mind would sit on a $600+ phone (un-subsidized) made of glass and metal..I don't know how you "don't like how it feels in the front pocket" yet are fine with the discomfort caused by sitting on it. Studies show that for men, sitting on their wallet over the years isn't good, so I wouldn't recommend sitting on a phone either.

You sir, win the thread.

No one in their right mind would be reckless with something that cost 10, 20, 30+ thousand dollar car that's made of glass, metal, and explosive gas. Yet, I see that occurring daily. I don't see them asking if they should handle themselves differently. I bet many of them "work their butts off" to make the bills for it but drives it like crap.

We're here to give the best solutions and advice, at the end of the day, it's the user who make the final decision. We're trying to suggest solutions to ease the discomfort. If the OP doesn't want any, then there's no need for much discussion here.

Fact: If you continiuosly put the iphone 5 in your back pocket and sit on it, it's going to bend.

Every morning I put my iPhone on the driveway and slowly drive over it. So far there has been no damage. I also have applecare just in case. Does anyone else do this?

Hah. Excellent point!

My wife, "Stop trying to fix things and just listen to me!"
