A DeX-like experience on an iPhone would be amazing! Apple is already 3/4 of the way there with their unified iPhone/iPad/Mac interfaces.

At my previous company we spent an afternoon to see if a DeX phone was a viable alternative to the company-issued Windows Laptop/Desktop and phone (Brokers who mainly use the MS office suite, email, and remote desktop).... it was!

We plugged a Note into a monitor (and used a standard office issue USB Logitech KB+M combo) with a Macbook USB-C adapter - The desktop environment and window management worked flawlessly, all the office and email apps performed great! There was even a DeX-specific version of Remote Desktop, and as an added bonus, All calls and texts could now be replied to from the 'computer' itself... even things like Duo 2FA authorizations could be done from the same device!

The downsides were that true 'Desktop' style interfaces for DeX had to be custom-built for the service (otherwise the apps fell back to standard android scaling), and if you lost your phone, you'd also lose your work computer... but otherwise a pretty good experience.

(Also NOT for developers or content creators, unless you would SSH or Remote into another box... For a limited time DeX allowed the running of Ubuntu VM's inside the environment - but annoyingly, Samsung pulled support for this a few months back)

1) USB C
2) Micro SD
3) 3.5mm jack (ah yes the S20 didn't include this, but that's why I'm still on an S8)
4) WiFi Channel analyzation
5) Real time data traffic stream in notification bar (Internet Speed Meter on Android does this, but App Store doesn't have anything like it)

Points 1-3 are never happening from a design philosophy, but 4 and 5 are super valuable.

Split view iPhone apps would need to be executed well, split view on Android looks awful(using most apps that can’t go to the size of a square)

Apple needs to:
3. make it possible to adjust volume for independent apps and settings and not this general thing they're doing, forcing you to do it while the thing is being played, such as separate volume control for keyboard volume, music volume, ring volume, system volume.
9. Give us an option to NOT go to the next email but back to inbox after deleting an email.
Ooooh, These two items. Yes, please!

I have a dream.
Arriving at the office, I connect my iPhone 12 with a USB-C/Display adapter to my 32" monitor. The screen shows me the login to Big Sur running on the iPhone, with bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The iPhone serves as web cam, microphone, speaker.
This is where I want to go.

I'm not sure what the difference is with DEX compared with Continuity, Handoff and being able to plug your iPhone or iPad into a monitor with an HDMI cable. I set up a friend that way; he didn't have a computer so I got him a Bluetooth keyboard. His iPhone acted as his mouse. The iPhone was connected to an HDMI screen in landscape mode, and he was able to use it very much like a standard computer.
The new DeX works without cables and works as a desktop computer with multi window and true multi tasking.

Stylus support is the ONLY feature that matters to me on a phone.

I don't get how 'artist-centric' Apple has missed this boat so many times.

BUT, I just learned about the Moto G Stylus. It's a phone the size of an iPhone 8+, and has a stylus. I picked one up for $300. And honestly, it's not too shabby. The stylus isn't as good as the one on the Note series though.

Why on earth you would need a stylus on a tiny screen. Use iPad for that.

120Hz would be great and I'd find it a compelling reason to upgrade, although I think I'm going to skip this year and replace my Xs in 2021.

As for Powershare, iPhones have small batteries. They have a good battery life because of software and hardware optimisations, but charging another device is another story.
Some people think about the AirPods, but how often do you need to charge your AirPods case? I bet you need to charge your phone more frequently, and if you can charge the phone you can charge the AirPods too.
The only useful feature would be charging the Watch, as it needs its own charger so you could go for a trip without packing another cable. The AirPods charge via Lighting or Qi, so they can share the same charger with the iPhone.

Samsung hasn't quite perfected the higher refresh rate and it still presumably has a major impact on battery life, which is why it's limited to Full High Definition resolution (1080p) and does not work when the phone is set to the higher QHD+ resolution (1440p).

And that’s why Apple hasn’t put it in their iPhones. Yet.

I'm not that interested in phones, but I do have access to most of them. I've a Pro Max here, an S20 Ultra, a Note 20 Ultra etc. I swap between them, and in reality they all do the same thing don't they? I do like the 120hz screen - I find it's just nicer to use, and is probably the primary reason I'm not using the 11 right now.

The screen on the Note 20 Ultra is bonkers good. The powershare is handy - I've used it a couple of times but it's hardly essential I don't think? USB-C is deffo better than a crappy proprietary connector though.

I also have a 1TB MicroSD in the Note - just means no more carrying around an external drive for ISOs and the like. Essential? Of course not.

Competition is good isn't it? We all win out of that, whatever your primary platform of choice is.

I used S Pen in Note 9 after creating the Animoji character and do touches with moustache, beard, etc....

All these mentioned differentiating features require lots of software integration like Samsung has done it.

Personally I doubt these integrating features in iOS instead Apple might want app developers to toss it in the App Store, while Apple market it and make 30%cut without sweating much, also managing different interface within the same family of products could complicate software development and maintenance which Samsung could do it from the very beginning.

i want one
but i also want - just as much
new up spec imac, upcoming ip12, a-watch, mac book pro,
and build gaming pc built around rtx 3090 and over clocked i9 10900k on pcie 4.0 mobo
too much good stuff - not enough coin

After moving MacOs to Apple silicon they could theoretically implement a killer DEX like feature by including a cut-down MacOs on phones that is activated when connected to a monitor.

Then you browse over to Autodesks website wanting to install Maya, and notice “Yuck, I‘m locked to this damm AppStore!“. You get p‘off, grab your iPhone and smash it against the wall. Close before kicking your 32“ display off the table, you get your car keys, drive to next Store, and buy a decent Ryzen PC with 128GB Ram. Happy End!

I find it absolutely baffling that Apple had QuickTime VR since 1995 but put it out to pasture in the early aughts. Sure we have Pano mode, but it's not even 360° Meanwhile Android has had "Photo Sphere" software photo stitching built in since Android 4.2 from 2012?! 360° in all directions!

I thought a friend's FB post was using some fancy lens on an immersive photo... nope, just Photo Sphere in his Android camera app?! Either they need to pay someone big bucks for usage or... the code GPLv3!? What the what?! Get with it iOS!

What I would like to see Apple copy for sure:

-Stylus (useful for way more than just art: I sign a ton of electronic documents and the pen would be fantastic for that, as well as jotting quick notes, etc)
-Screen: including refresh rate I suppose, but Samsung does have beautiful bezel-less screens that just look fantastic
-a "DEX-like" feature: I have a fantasy of being able to get rid of my laptop and just use my phone plugged into a monitor, keyboard, and mouse while running macOS. This should theoretically be possible as the move to Apple Silicon happens and the lines between different devices in the ecosystem are blurred.
-USB C

What I don't care about, and think is pointless:
-Powersharing
-Multitasking/split windows: screen on phone still to small for that to be useful

Implementing side-by-side multitasking without a big deep (and difficult) redesign results in a UI mess and inconsistency (it’s Android, so the inconsistency comes by default).

What exactly are you talking about? Apple already implemented split screen multitasking on iPad years ago. iPads also run iOS.
Also how is split screen multitasking inconsistent on Android? You sound like you never used actually it.

About DEX, it’s a typical great theoretical idea for some, but in reality **no one** uses it because it lacks a real use case. Not to mention that, as with multitasking, Samsung just throws the functionality to see if it works, there‘a not a deep work behind it.
About DEX you are again wrong and you clearly don't understand it's use case.
Samsung has been continuously improving DEX, so saying there's not a deep work behind it is quite disingenuous.

The rest, more or less, are fine, and will probably make it to the iPhone in the future - it’s a matter of compromises.
Actually they are all fine so including DEX and split screen multitasking.

Dex works great in my experience. Its so good I use it full time on my tab s7 plus. Great go have that option

Dex is what you call real multitasking

Erm....if you walked around our office pre-Covid you'd see tons of people using DeX. Mostly non-techs too - think Lawyers/lawyer support staff. Was a pain getting it through SecOps.

Almost all of these are pure gimmick.

- Split windows on this tiny screen? I seldom use this on my 12.9" iPad Pro. Did you ever run your applications in window of half width of 13" screen on your MacBook (without virtual desktop to switch to other arrangement)?

- Jotting on this tiny device with a pen is difficult when you are approaching the lower part of the screen since you will have no support of your hand holding the pen.

- Charging AirPods battery case with my phone faced down? Why not just plugging a charging cable. Maybe useful if I could directly charge the ear pieces (without having to taking out the charging case).

- DEX is dubious. We are cutting every cable to get full mobility. And let's be honest that most of those who so much addicted to their phone are for killing time, like playing game or watching movie/photo on youtube, p0rnhub and Instagram.
