Bump, this topic has been inactive long enough.

Please update the OP ThatsmeRight to include some more wishes.

The chief one being a longer screen.

I quite appreciated the nice large screen on the Driod phone with minimal wasted real estate on the front. Would love nothing more than for iPhone to upgrade the size of their screen, and minimize the amount of space wasted on the front of the phone as well...

I don't understand why the black bars above and below the screen on the iPhone need to be so large. The home button could be made smaller or slimmer. The speakers could be shifted upwards. And overall the screen could be bigger or have more real estate.

Google's Driod phone did a good job of maximizing the amount of space devoted to the screen size, the notification system and implementing a built in GPS. Where the Droid falls behind is in almost every other area (but not by much).

The front of the phone could made more akin to this...

or this...

It's not the thinness of these phone designs that is impressive, it's the manner in which the designs maximized the amount of screen space on the front of the phones.

In short, there seems to be little good reason why the iPhone screen couldn't have been made bigger/longer (or wider in landscape mode) for this upcoming hardware revision. The phone itself could've been made a mm or two wider if Apple wished to do this while keeping the screen proportions the same.

I want to see this;

A proper power saving feature so you can set a couple of profiles that can be toggled via a shortcut on the home screen.

For example; Profile 1 - Wi-Fi off, screen 50% bright and bluetooth off
Profile 2 - Wi-Fi on, screen 80%, bluetooth on
Profile 3 - Wi-Fi on, screen 100% bluetooth on 3G off - no point having 3G on if you are in the middle of nowhere, but this middle of nowhere has a mcdonald's with wifi.

Thank you so much

You could type...

"4.3 Inch screen without making the phone too much bigger (black bars above and below the screen should be reduced)."

I want to see a 4.3 inch screen on the iPhone like the Sprint EVO 4G and other andriod phones already offer.

4.3 Inches is such a treat for your eyes. Watching movies on it (I've used other 4.3 Inch phones), is actually worthwhile, where as the current iphone screen feels too miniscule.

And it doesn't add much to the size or the weight of the phone if the other 4.3 inch screen phones are any indication

Please update the opening post to include on the wishlist... ""4.3 Inch screen without making the phone too much bigger (black bars above and below the screen should be reduced)."

I recently had the pleasure to use the new archos and I must day, the 4.5 inch screen is so much easier on the eyes and hands than the iphone's 3.5 inch.

I think this will be the Sprint Evo 4Gs real killer feature, it uses the same size screen as the archos. Watching videos of it, you can tell it's far easier to use the on screen keyboard, browse online and watch movies with an extra inch of diagonal real estate.

Here's to hoping that the 2011 iPhone features a 4.5 inch high resolution screen.

If you're wondering how much bigger the iPhone would have to be, the answer is not much.

The Evo 4G has dimensions very close to the iPhones. Likewise, the HTC HD 2 offers a 4.3 inch screen and has dimensions very near to the iPhone's. How?

There is a ton of space to be saved if apple would minimize the blackbars above and below the iPhone. It might need to be a hair length wider but the length of the iPhone wouldn't have to change.

There is no reason why the black bars above and below the screen on the iPhone need to be so much larger than the Driod, HD2, Sprint Evo 4G, Nexus One and several other phones.

Those phones aren't difficult to hold, so there is no reason to assume the iPhone would be either. The home button could be made smaller or slimmer. The speakers could be shifted upwards.

Silencing

I wish they had a software way to silence the iPhone, so the iPhone couldn't accidentally get switched off of silence in your pocket.

Not sure how your phone is accidentally getting switched off to silent mode. That's not an easy button to hit.

"4.5 Inch screen without making the phone too much bigger (black bars above and below the screen should be reduced) as discussed at https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/918519/"

Thank you.

Great thread, I would like the follow for OS 5.0 or even 4.1...etc.

-- Alarm - Needs to be improved, Snooze time(Pause time between snoozes), Define workdays, Custom alarm sound, Alarm occurance(Once, daily, work days), Alarm volume

-- Bluetooth needs to be unlocked - They should really utilize the power of bluetooth and let miscellaneous third party external device like GPS receivers connect to it, let you send contacts, data, etc over bluetooth to another headset or a PC/Mac, let you use bluetooth with iTunes - Add itunes support, synching, backups, moving files, everything. Just unlock the full potential of bluetooth.

-- Changing tones for SMS/Email

-- Mass Storage support - This is such a needed and useful feature, they need to enable "mass storage" when you connect it with a USB cable, and the programs should be able to read from it, if I drop some pictures in storage, the "Photos" app should see them.

-- Free Navigation - With the ability to pre-download the maps at home without the need for network data.

-- There should be a shortcut like SBSettings to let you turn on/off the bluetooth, wifi, data, every connectivity option, power options

-- DivX/Xvid/MKV support

-- I like the parsing in the Notes and other apps, but it should offer you to send a TXT as well, currently if you tap on somebody's phone # it gives you an option of calling or adding it to contacts.

-- Built in SIP support

-- File System Browser

-- Converter - Mass/Velocity/Currency/etc............

"(use the black bars on top and bottom!)" is a confusing way to put it, most people would be like, use them for what?

Could you please instead write...

"4.3 Inch screen without making the phone too much bigger (black bars above and below the screen could be reduced)"

The HTC H2 and Evo 4G offer a 4.3 inch screen and they are both only 2mm wider/longer than the iPhone. 2mm is so small a difference in size that it would be near impossible to notice.

I'm keeping it with a bigger screen. And it's more like a message to Apple: use the black bars.

We will know everything in just a few days. Though still a bit curious to the new iPhone. A lot of prototypes have been leaked, but remember the iPod Touch last year? No camera, even though everyone expected it (and even though there were prototypes with cameras).

The day after tomorrow... mwuahha :D

This isn't anywhere near as exciting as last year. We all know what the next iPhone is going to be.

Sadly, no 4.3 inch screen. :(

Hopefully next year.

Add this to the wishlist That'sMeRight

Here's a feature I'm surprised Apple still hasn't implemented given their purchase of Siri.

Using Voice Controls to do everything on your phone.

I should be able to say, "Open iBook Winne the Pooh" and it should open that book.

Likewise, if you say "Check my email" it should open the email app and refresh it to get the latest emails.

If I say buy iPhone App Shazam, it should take me to the App Store to the Shazam app.

I hope this finds its way into iOS 5, alongside a 4.3 inch screen for the new iPhone. When do you think Apple will implement universal voice controls on the iPhone? And why isn't that on everyone's wishlist?

It's a nice wish (better voice control), but don't expect it anytime soon. There's no good technology for it yet.

And eh, lots of wishes have come true. Will update the mainpost within 24 hours :)
