I found the IPP really cool to write on and take notes but the massive size would make it difficult for portability so I went with the little Pro.

People are missing the point - don't limit yourself to a big or small iPad. Get both, they are entirely complimentary of each other and have great value. I just don't understand people who want to limit themselves to one kind of experience.

I think for most, there's that pesky little issue of money which would necessitate making a choice between one or the other.

The big Pro was the first Apple device I couldn't talk myself into. I kept returning to the Apple store to look at it and then left knowing it was just too big and heavy for me. I love my new 9.7 Pro.

I wouldn't let money shape my experience. Credit cards and personal loans are workable solutions for most people.
I reckon this is the same thought-process for people making six-figures that are just one paycheck away from not being able to pay mortgage and other essentials.

Personally, I prefer to be able to afford small luxuries both now and when I'm older. I'd rather be selective on what I spend money on now than have to rely solely on Social Security upon retirement. :)

I have the 12.9 and it is fantastic for taking handwritten notes. I was concerned about the size, but then I realized the only time the size matters to me is when I have to take the IPP to and from meetings. That's a relatively small amount of time. In my bag it's not larger than the laptop it replaced. At all other times, it sits in the Apple Smart Keyboard on my desk.

No doubt the onscreen keyboard is harder to use on the 12.9 inch pro. When in landscape mode it is a bummer. I went back to my small iPPro and what a difference it makes.

It's strange how different things work / not work for different people. I love using the landscape on-screen keyboard on the 12.9 iPP. It feels like typing on a regular keyboard, minus the tactile feedback.

Even then, it is the size of a letter-sized folio or clipboard. I have no problem carrying it around the office, and using it to show documents to my co-workers. So far, nobody has remarked on the size, unless I specifically call attention to the fact that this is the new iPad.

This thread is pretty funny. I am going to replace my iPad Air 1 and keep going back and forth between the 9.7 and the 12.9. My Air is pretty cramped for productivity type work so the 12.9 is appealing. On the other hand I do lug it around a fair amount so the portability of the 9.7 is appealing. While I could afford both, I'm not going to purchase 2 iPads.

It's settled - Apple needs to make an 11" iPad Pro for us tweeners!

I randomly saw this topic on Google. I have been thinking about buying an ipad pro since last month. After I noticed Apple publish a 9.7" screen size, I went to Apple store to take this two photos yesterday. Basically, 12.9" is about double size of 9.7" (even the weight).

Therefore, if the screen of 12.9" is about A4 size, 9.7" is about A5 size. It was quite easy to pick up the 9.7" and drawing. but when I tried the 12.9", I needed to use my forearm to support it.

Hope this information help.

Or a foldable iPad.
Start with a Mini. Unfold to 9.7. Further unfold to a 12.9.
Now that would be interesting.

The iPP 12.9" weight 70g less than a Starbucks Tall Cafe Latte (without the cup) more than the 9.7 iPP. A bag have normally at least the size of a A4/Letter document to carry also some papers and journals additional to iPad. In this 13" bag the iPP 12.9" fits easily. So much about portability...

Sure I could carry it around. I could also carry around a 17" iPad if they made it. Doesn't mean it is as portable as a 9.7" is though.

I've had my iPad Pro for about a week, and because it's new, I've pretty much been using it all day every day. It's on my desk during the day, then I do writing on it in the evening, and then at night, it's my main entertainment device.

I've noticed that my natural tendency is that once I get out of "work mode", I fold the keyboard back behind the iPad or just take it off completely and use the iPad the "traditional" way. There's a change in my brain that says, "Ok, time to watch a movie or something. Ditch the keyboard."

This is the sole reason I held off on the 12.9 and bought the 9.7. At the end of the day when I'm exhausted and just want to lay in bed and decompress, I still want my "normal" sized iPad for watching shows or movies or mindlessly browsing the web. I think that's the main reason people fell in love with tablets in the first place. I just couldn't see myself wanting to do that with an iPad the size of my Macbook Pro.

I understand the hesitation of the 12.9". Users with iPads were accustomed to the 9.7" for so long especially me.

As soon as I opened mine... Just the initial feeling was how am I going to use this while laying in bed, it's not something anybody can adjust to easily. But I just enjoy the screen real estate.

I've had it for about 5 months now & using a Air 2 seem cramp... Although it's more portable compared to the 12.9", but for me.. I can't say enough of how the screen just does it for me. I load up Movies & TV Shows to Infuse. And I'm good to go.

That is exactly what I do with my 12.9. When I switch gears out of "work mode", I detach the ASK and attach the Smart Cover. Works great.

Having owned and used an iPad every day since day-1 of the iPad 1, I was a bit concerned when my 12.9 Pro was delivered to the house. It felt gargantuan... like a yuge digital billboard that seemed more at home on stilts on the side of the road. But after a week... very, very nice. My only complaint is not having enough time in my busy schedule to really sit down for extended time with the Pencil. The little bit of time that I have spent, was great.

I, too, have owned iPads since day 1 (skipped iPad 4, though). I do still feel the weight of the 12.9 after all this time, but for me, the advantages more than offset the slight inconvenience. I've actually been carrying the iPP to work with me everyday, whereas I had stopped carrying the iPad Air around when I got iPhone 6. iPhone 6 is good enough to read news articles during my commute, and I never actually used the 9.7 iPads much while at work. But the 12.9 iPad I actually use for work, AND it's great to read news on during my commute if I manage to find a seat.
