So I wanted the iP4, but now I've been reading about issues about the proximity sensor..

Does anyone in vancouver have any problems with theirs?
Rogers just called me and said they have an iP4 for me waiting to get picked up, but I'm wondering if I should wait.

Minor but good note: when I got my iPhone 4, there were two faint yellowish spots at the bottom of the display, visible when the display was white. I was going to call AppleCare and say it was defective, but a search here convinced me to wait. In a couple of days, they vanished, and now my screen is problem-free. :) The Apple Store still says three weeks until shipping... perhaps that's the time it takes to make iPhone 4s in response to orders?

Apple Stores (physical locations) are generally reviving shipments every 1-2 days from what I hear. The iPhone isn't made per-order so it's basically Apple just getting enough devices to spread out between Canada and the other countries the device is available in. I know the iPhone 4 launched in Mexico today, not sure if it did anywhere else but if it did then it will be another drain on supply. Still, we're nearly three months in the products life cycle so I can only assume that stock should begin to level out soon.

Got mine yesterday after being on the waiting list at Telus for only a day! :D
I choose the 55$ Student Plan:
1gb
200 min
Night+weekend starting at 6PM
Top 10 National call
Texts+MMS illimited

Same for me, only a day on the waiting list. I got the same plan too...pretty good one I think. :D

I plan on being in TO next weekend. So does Apple store have these stock? And what do I need to do to get a unlocked variation of the phone? I live in US, will they check my ID?

no.. don't wait.
me, my 2 brothers and my brother's wife all got iPhone 4 on the same day, 0 problems.. i know 2 people since then that were actually able to get a hold of the iPhone and they've all had 0 problems.

I think the track record is fairly good for Canadian iPhone users. I'm in Vancouver btw.

Bah can't find an iP4 anywhere. Called Rogers retention too and they said they're completely out of stock. They did hook me up with free voicemail and call display ($15/month value!) though just for calling them.

Bell has few in stock but their data/voice plan is more expensive - they charge $80 for 6gig, but I'm only paying $55 for 6gig with Rogers. Not to mention I'd have to pay some money to cancel with Rogers.

Can't you switch to the $30 for 6GB plan?

Yeah the 6gig one with Bell is $30 but it's packaged with voice plan which adds up to $80.

Their site actually says 2gig for $80 but at the store they told me that they have 6gig for $80 total as a promotional deal.

Either way, it's a horrible deal.

-Nights after 6pm and weekends free.
-Unlimited incoming calls.
-Call Display

I'm in Vancouver and I haven't had any problems with mine whatsoever. I'm on TELUS though.

Just a quick question, when buying the iPhone from Apple which courier will deliver it?

Thanks
It is either UPS or FedEx.

They would tend to use FedEx more for iPhone orders that ship directly from China to your door. If the phone is coming from their warehouses in Canada then chances are it is UPS.

But that is just based on what I've seen.... It could be either one but you wouldn't know until your order has shipped.

Is that before or after taxes?

This is a better deal than I got for my daughter yesterday. She does not have the unlimited incoming (as far as I know).

Did you go through retentions? Any recommendations on how I could change my daughters plan to match this?

/Jim

I went into my local Bell store telling them I am comparing all the network providers. Rogers and Telus directed me to their regular plans....but the Bell guy went the extra distance for me and searched all of their group (corporate) plans for my area. He found that I qualify for one of their group plans because of who i work for. Also everyone in my household can have this plan under me (got one for my wife too). It is well worth asking the Cellular employee if you somehow qualify for a group discount plan. I never knew this plan existed.... Big thanks to the Bell employee. :)

Yea Bell tends to have a lot of corporate plans easily available.

Rogers has corporate plans, however there are downsides to this such not being able to use their My Account phone app, and you are unable to take advantage of the hardware upgrade program, and other things... But at least you get a sweet plan, but rogers retention plans are just as good or better than corporate plans anyways :p

No idea what Telus offers...

Yea, I've heard good and bad about both Bell and Rogers. I wasn't interested in Telus at all. I decided to go with Bell this time largely due to how great they were at the local Bell store. Plus no one seemed to be able to match the group plan Bell offered me. I also got the phone at the discounted price ($159 for 16gb, $259 for 32gb), and I can use Bell's account app and Bell's TV app. Overall I'm quite happy.

I ordered my 16GB from Rogers Retention on Friday, should get it either Tuesday or Wednesday!!

I went into Best buy last week in New West and I asked about Rogers iphone, they have not received stock since Launch day from them, and thier wait list is 300 people. I asked about Telus and he said they get 3iphones a week from them. Issue is definatley from Rogers. Oh well, I dont care, I get my phone next week without wait lists etc.

Got mine from a Future Shop two weeks ago. I was on the Rogers wait list (the store had one list for each carrier) for all of a week when my buddy from the store called and said to get down there right away. I snagged one of the two 16GB phones that came in. Fortunately it was on the 4.0.1 fw:D

I was at Square 1 yesterday around 1:30pm.
Walked by the Apple Store. The store was packed, and there was a small line up outside the store. I asked the guy at the door and he said they just had gotten stock. Wrote down my name and I went and stood in line. There were only about 10 people in line infront of me but it still took about 45 minutes for me to get in and buy the phone. I just needed to buy it outright.

I guess I got really lucky. Was there at the right now.

And yes, i must say, Apple seemed very disorganized. They were letting people into the store to buy other stuff but the iPhone 'activation' staff was minimal. I only saw about 4 sales guys who were doing activations.

When I was at Sherway a few weeks ago the activation people didn't look to be Apple employees, just reps from the carriers. I wonder if that's a usual thing going on? Either way there appeared to be one employee per carrier handling activations. As for letting people in to buy other things, it's always like that, launch days and all. I would assume that general sales and traffic far outweighs the amount of people who are there to purchase an iPhone. Good to hear the lines are getting shorter, when I was at Sherway they had also just received a shipment but had a pretty big line and were turning people away every few seconds. I have to say compared to authorized dealers, Apple employees handle the whole "do you have any iPhone 4's?" question much better.
