i went in the Rogers store (one of many) to check on where i was at on the "waiting list"

they pretty much rolled their eyes and kicked me out after showing page after page after page of names.

Eff this, i'm seriously thinking of just waiting till July now for iPhone 5. this is just ridiculous at this point.

You think it will be any better when iphone 5 comes out??? I got the iphone 3g a week afterlaunch, 3GS 3 weeks after launch and ip4 4 weeks after launch.

Your better off calling Retentions and getting the phone that way. I got both my wife's and my iphones with Retentiions. I lined up on launch day and didnt get a phone. Called Rogers when it was in stock and they sent me both phones the next day.

What happened was they made everybody eligle to upgrade to the new one. So you had the 3G and 3GS and other upgrades as well as new activations.

You can bet there are no wait lists for Telus or Bell for the iPhone 4

Actually the Telus in my town has a huge waiting list, just like everyone else..
I didn't have time to go to the Apple store and stand in line for 8 hours, so I bought mine online and I am forced to wait patiently for a couple weeks.

Ya, I called up Rogers, and complained about my plan being too expensive.. now they knocked off 10 bucks a month from my data plan, and removed the iphone value pack price from my account.. so I saved 25 bucks a month now..

thanks..

Now I'm just under $75 bucks a month with unlimited calling and texting including long distance in canada and usa with free roaming.. and 6 gb per month for my data. That includes tax and I'm never gonna go over my monthly price.

Sounds a lot better now :p Congrats!

Call Rogers retentions.. Ive had mine since August 16th.

i called the regular 1-800 number, and they didn't even patch me through. They just said, "we are out of stock, find a store"

boo

so, i tried the number you put up top, got through to a human right away, told him my deal, and LO AND BEHOLD, they have iPhone's in stock RIGHT NOW this morning (monday)

Signed, Sealed, and will be delivered in 5 business days!!

hard ware upgrade for 159 plus 30 bucks for an admin fee!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT PHONE NUMBER!!!

[EDIT] i also asked if there was any improvements that could be made to my Voice plan. He put me on hold, then came back and said that because i was extending my contract, he could give me an extra 100 minutes for free per month! SWEET

:eek::):eek::cool::apple:

Hey folks. I just ordered an unlocked iphone from the apple website, ship date is 3 weeks. I have a question about plans with an unlocked phone. Apparently I'm free to go anywhere I want but how do the plans work with an unlocked phone? Do I have to sign up for a long-term plan with one carrier or can I go month to month with whomever I choose? I'd love to hear how others have handled this. Can I switch carriers frequently? Cheers.

You can either move over your existing contract to the phone or sign up a new 3 year plan. More or less your only options.

I'm not sure about the other carriers but Bell do offer month to month plans on the iPhone 4. I'm looking into them over the next few days before I order mine from Apple.

Easiest way to see on their site is if you search for micro sim a link is shown for iPhone 4 - where you can then work out what plan you want. :)

Hey, just a note to people in Vancouver area. If you're looking for an iPhone 4, some areas get more than others. For example, wireless wave on Robson St in downtown Van gets about 5 a week, while wireless wave in PoCo has gotten like 5 in total this far. So if you're calling up stores, try the Robson St on or any other store that has high traffic. Downtown stores are your best bet.

I don't know how you got that plan! I called and they said $50 for unlimited local and long distance with unlimited texting, $30 for 6GB and they can't move on that at all then $8 for visual voice mail and $8 for caller ID and they can't go any lower, is what they told me. So that's $96 a month. Also iPhone 4 will take a month to get to me.

i just read a forum posted today on redflagdeals claiming that rogers got a huge shipment today over at retentions. I called 5 times and they claimed they had none in stock :( .

Weird. Did you call the direct number that was posted a few threads up? My brother was able to order one today at around 5pm EDT. He was in the process with the retentions person on getting a 32 GB model but then she said the last one just got sold. So he settled for the 16GB model. They said delivery will be 2 to 5 days.

Yeah I called this afternoon and they said it'll be a few weeks and they were clean out.

Really?... cause I called at 3 and they said they had none and that was retentions.

I'm 14 and currently looking for some decent iPhone 4 plans. I don't mind waiting a few months for it, if that's the case. Is it better to buy an unlocked iPhone 4 or just get a discounted one with a contract? Roger's student plan looks good. I dunno. Any tips?

Why buy the iPhone full price only for them to want you to sign a 3 year deal if you want a good plan. Also, the 6GB data plan is over in a few days.

Getting it unlocked isn't worth it if you plan on sticking with the same carrier for another 3yrs. You do not get a discount just because you have an unlocked phone.

I don't think anything would happen in a few months, the next iPhone is most likely still scheduled for next summer.

What would happen though is the Student plans getting more expensive =P

I guess he got lucky. He did call in the morning and somehow his call got disconnected. I had bugged him to call back right away since someone posted here on Monday that they were successful in getting one by calling them and I figured they would be running out of stock soon, if not already. My brother was busy all day and was only able to call back around 5pm and got a 16 GB model... he originally wanted a 32 GB but they just sold out when he was on the phone with them. He even forwarded me the order confirmation via email since the phone will be delivered to my house.
I'd say keep on trying and hopefully you will get a kinder retentions person. :)

Yes, don't give up. I have a friend who works in billing for rogers so he knows lots of loopholes! But alot depends on you, if you've been with them for awhile you'll be higher up on the metaphorical ladder. You will have a lot more lee way when trying to get good deals if you have already had a two or three year contract with them.

How long did it take the US to catch up to demand? I hear that at this point, you can just walk into an Apple store or at&t and buy an iPhone4.

I know that this has been discussed to death in other threads, but I think that Apple's one per year iPhone update isn't going to cut it anymore now that real iPhone alternatives have been selling well and updating more often.

I wouldn't be surprised to update the iPhone twice per year. I'm not suggesting we'll see a jump like what happened with iPhone4. I think we'll see something akin to the iPhond3G to the 3Gs. I wouldn't be surprised to see an iPhone update with more memory and sold in different colours some time in the 1st quarter of 2011.

Not gonna happen. Apple can hardly keep up with demand for the current model. There's no benefit in doing that for them.

The "iPhone alternatives" are still no real match for the iPhone. The iPhone, even with all of its shortfalls, is still the mobile phone to beat, and until a company comes out with something mind-blowing, it always will be.

I disagree. A new tier of iPhone will help relieve the pressure off the iPhone 4.

If Apple released a multi coloured line of iPhones, produced separately, less people would be looking for the original iPhone 4 and demand would be better met.

I'm not suggesting Apple discontinue the current iPhone but adding a 64GB model, and then a set of 4 or 5 different coloured iPhone 4s would help to diversify the brand and keep it fresh, every 6 months.

The multi coloured models could be based on the iPhone 3GS shell, which is easier to colour and manufacture (we're still waiting for the white one) but with the chipset and features of iPhone4.

Anyway... I finally hit gold: I called retentions and they had them in stock. 32GB iPhone4 finally being shipped to me.

2 months of nearly throwing my iPhone3G against the wall is finally coming to an end.

I'm a huge supporter of Apple's and have been for over a decade now, but I'm not blind to the competition. The Droid and BlackBerry Torch are excellent phones and are up to the competition with iPhone. I won't underestimate the allure and staying power of BBM on the BlackBerry and the need of a lot of customers for full customization and open app market offered by Android phones, the best of which, the Droid.

The update cycle for BlackBerry and Android phones is faster than iPhone's so if Apple wants to keep its lead, it'll have to bump up it's model more than once every year.

Diversity wouldn't do anything.

Ex.

100 Million iPhone 4s: Demand still not met.

70 Million iPhone 4s and 30 Million iPhone mini/XL/whatever: Demand still not met.

Apple needs to work on capacity to manufacture more iPhone 4s, not slow everything down by introducing another model.
