Very nice.

The exhaust middle section was blowing, so I had custom exhaust made for it. It sounds amazing.

And one shock was leaking, so we replaced all of them. And it now has BC Racing Coilovers with adjustable damping. Also allowed the stance to be sorted properly, yet keep it super compliant in our bad English roads.

And then once all the mechanics were properly sorted, we started on the interior Ended up taking it all out clean, rewire and refit 🤣

We had a lot of fun during the Corona lockdown period 👍

So the manufacturer does not make money when the dealership fixes your car and you pay for original spare parts?
I think they have a lot of special tools and training programs for their world wide dealership that they make a ton off.

I think you are both arguing the same point. Manufacturers do not make it hard on purpose, in fact they do the opposite they make it easier. They can even remotely diagnose the issues when it’s plugged into the computer network. But yes, because of that, and the convinces provided it does mean a computer becomes part of the toolset in addition to a spanner 🔧. It can actually speed up the diagnoses.

I used to have a MK7 R, that was a fantastic car. But very heavy in comparison and different smiles. Launch control was great, and just crazy after I had mine tuned. The GTI Clubsport is much closer to similar driving pleasure in my opinion. However as a daily drivers a MK7 R with DSG was nice.
 
Very nice rebuild. And it has Apple CarPlay! In the midst of a pandemic worldwide, we need to find things that we can value with our time, and I think a rebuild with a family member has a lot of long-term heritage. I know personally, I’ve been doing a lot more driving since I didn’t travel this year, which the V8 rumble never gets old or a turbo spooling With a blow off. But anyways....

That’s the one goal that I ultimately will do at some point in my life, is start a restoration project from the ground up (No body restore), but I would need a partner helping me along the way, being I certainly don’t have that skill set to handle a ‘project car’ on my own.

LOL Thanks 🙏 I can’t get the credit for that though. It was my daughters choice. We were talking about what she fancied as her first car. I was thinking Mini Cooper or Abarth 595 or Audi S1 or something like that. But no she came out with a MK2 Golf GTI 3-door. I was like hell yeah, great choice.

We found this one when she was still 16, bought it mainly in body condition and that the previous owner drove it daily.

Your daughter has great taste! My aunt had a red GTi and the same model as the one in your pics. It was absolutely pristine and garaged for 25 years. My cousin passed her driving test on I think the eighth attempt and was given it. She wrote it off within a couple of months

I would have bought it and looked after it. Your daughter now has an awesome car I have to say :)

😬 Not cheap. About GBP3,200 for the first year. But then again a little Toyota Yaris 1.0 would also be GBP1,800 and then requires a black box so I couldn’t drive it 🤣

It is what it is. Goes down quickly there after if no accidents.

That’s what I thought. Mines due this month. About £300 or so.
Hope she doesn’t crash it. It would be such a shame after all the work you have put in.
Did you do anything about security? I recall older cars being easier to steal? Any old key would work for my old Ford Escort.

It would be a shame, but hey ho so be it 😬

At the moment it has a Meta Systems alarm and immobiliser. But that is not for the current generation as you have to count the number of flashes of the LED to know what it is doing and one Remote button to operate it 🤣 So that will be changed to a more modern system that gives some feedback suitable for a 21st century teenager.

on a different not, I just stopped as I saw a very original BMW E30 and range the doorbell to see if they wanted to sell it 🤣 Unfortunately not.

Saw a video on CNBC about American pickup trucks turning into a luxury vehicle like the Ford F-150. Honest question, whats the point of buying a large pickup truck if you will never use the tray? Why not get an SUV? Does it make sense to buy a fully loaded $55K F-150 and use it for construction work where environments are abusive? Is it even made to be heavy duty?

Yes you did read that correct for insurance unfortunately.

Don’t know about the US, in the U.K. there is a tax avoidance opportunity when you use a vehicle that is classed as being able to carry more than 1 tonne. Especially for company owners it can be beneficial as there is a significant reduction in benefit in kind, and there is also a company reduction against plants and machinery. Hence a luxury car that is a “gas guzzler” makes sense and you end up paying very little tax.

In addition there is also a benefit with regards to towing capability so great for pleasure with say like a powerboat :)

Folks do all sorts of stuff that makes no sense. Why even get an SUV if you don't go off-roading?
