Hehehe 🤣 I’ve got my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Also got the full range microphone to pick up the exhaust note. But haven’t unpacked it yet.

Got to pick up the M2 first 😛

Here is a picture of a tyre after I hit a pothole.

To be honest with you bud, I don’t really care about the audio clip of the exhaust [I wouldn’t be able to appreciate the true sound anyways over an audio clip on the Internet.] I mean, I’m sure it sounds good and I believe that you have said Rangerover, I just don’t see why the difficulty to post a picture of it? You posted a picture of your daughters car, your wife’s car, a bulging tire from the Range, even the electronic dash of the Range, even the undercarriage...but no picture of the actual Range Rover? I mean, it just takes a quick second to snap a photo and post it like everybody else does on here.

I Genuinely appreciate your posts, so I don’t want you to think that I am making any insinuations here. I for one would like see a picture of it, being you said it was all blacked out, (Which is my type of style) I just don’t get the whole delay/mystery of never posting a photo of it over like six months and you come up with something every time why you won’t.

Gas, cigarettes and booze are taxed are very high rates.

I agree with higher tax on fags but wouldn’t mind a bit of a break on fuel and alcohol. Booze is slightly cheaper now in England than it is in Wales due to an extra tax. Sometimes it’s better to drive a few extra miles to buy it lol.

Oops, the joke has worn off it seems 😛 I thought it still had some mileage left on it but I guess I judged you wrong 🤣

Here you go, a couple from the summer...Black everywhere; body color and trim, wheels, seats, dash, and even black leather roof lining. Just how I like my bigger cars...And bought it for just £12,500, an absolute bargain it was in my opinion...The only option it didn't have which I would have appreciated is the electric seats in the back, although as we are emigrating (whenever we are allowed out of the country 🙁) the has been used mostly as a van with the rear seats folded...

I'm still chasing down this coolant leak, and once found the supercharger will get an upgrade (well downgrade technically speaking but resulting in more power). Just because of a little fun...

I’m car hunting at the moment for a car for my wife which we’ll also use at weekends as our main family car.

Options I considered were:

-BMW X3
- Volvo XC60
- Honda CRV (Already have one of these).
- Ford Edge
- Peugeot 3008 GT

My budget is £18,500. The 3008 has crept into the running and having owned french cars in the past I had decided I wouldn’t consider them again. It does seem to get very good reviews though and is a popular car. Also has way more extras for the cost whereas the others are lower apex’s models.

It just had its service, normally I tend to get a full service done when I buy secondhand to get it in a known state, but that wasn’t necessary as it is good.
So I just had a gearbox mega flush done as there was no history of that ever been done. And also had the supercharger oil change done. So £450’ish.

It came with new thread but horrible Chinese tyres. I drove on them in the summer. But when the fall started I put Pirelli Scorpio Verde on them all round; £960.

But then I hit a pot hole 1,000 mile later so had to buy another tyre 😬🤣 £236.

Oh yeah, and then I had that bespoke valves exhaust, but let’s not talk about that 🤣 it’s man maths and not maintenance.

But fuel is another matter. 😬

Going back to the Netherlands after 24 years in the UK. We fancy not only a change of living, want to move into a city centre. But also my young daughter is doing really well with her EDM music production, collaborates most with Dutch DJs, and has been working hard to get into a special school in that field. COVID put a bit of a halt to finding a new home, location etc. My children are dual nationals already, my wife can be once we move out.

So most of what you have spent is for improvements rather than general maintenance. Most of my friends or family who own Land Rovers/Range Rovers have separate warranties on them which cost a couple of grand. As lovely as they look and perform, they are horrendously unreliable and costly lol. Yours looks awesome though. I hope you don’t drive up peoples rears on the motorway though. Seems a perceived right of passage for that car usually 😛 🙂

I think it’s a bit of an myth regarding the unreliability; touch wood. Sometimes one is just unlucky. Heck our Toyota Prius spent three months in and out of the dealer to get it sorted. Maintain a car well, treat it with respect and it should be fine. Also don’t skimp on parts in my opinion.

And nope, on the motorway it is nice and relaxed with lidar automatic cruise control. I keep my distance. 👍

Have you considered a Skoda Kodiaq? I test drove one twice and it is actually a really good family car. Lots and lots of space and a decent specification as well. Great for the family to take everything with you in comfort.

I have as our best friends have just bought one but sadly my wife thinks they are bland inside. I like them personally but I’m the not the one who will be driving it everyday. She really likes the Peugeot 3008GT as it’s got pretty much all the features that German marques have at the higher end, like virtual dash, mood lighting, Apple car play etc included. I’ve suggested we go through the options tonight as we need to get our car advertised in the next week or so. Not going to part ex as dealers are offering £7k but selling the same model for £11k. I’d be happy with a private sale of £9.5k. I hate car buying to be honest lol.

First BMW M2 I was seriously interested in was sold 30 minutes after I enquired. Second was great but then the advertised mileage was double upon enquiry. So I thought ok still not much at 2K miles, and asked to check the build sheet. First alarm bell was that it was build one year before it was registered. Second alarm bell was that the interior colour of the photos didn’t match the build sheet. This is an official BMW dealer, they said oh yes we swapped the interior with another car. 😬

Then I found another one, reserved it online for click and collect, as you do 🤣. I had to chase them to arrange pickup. Then on the order form they got my wife’s name wrong, then specced a different car, then forgot my deposit. Flipping heck, why is this so hard. Again an official dealer. Hopefully they can get the paperwork correct this afternoon so we can pay and collect on Saturday.

And yes it’s one thing I’ve learned with women especially. Once they’ve made their mind up, offering alternative options rarely works.

I helped my mother in law getting a replacement car; she wanted a Kia Picanto. Fair enough not bad little cars. But was at risk of overpaying for the previous model, when she could get the current model. She agreed to look at the current one but was all weird in the showroom and wouldn’t even get in it. I knew then that I was not helping her at all and she already made up her mind and didn’t care about a lesser older model for more money. Weird to me but it made sense not to fight it.

My wife is very much into cars and can talk about them quite competently but knows what she likes. My concerns with French cars is the depreciation and potential electrical problems but the 3008 does seem to hold its value and is rated by owners so I may need to adjust my stereotypes. I think they’ve had a new designer too. I fancy the Ford Edge but they seem to be lacking the spec unless you pay £20k+ and I don’t really want to spend that much. We keep our cars for 3-4 years as it stands.

The M2 competition sounds like a fun car. I can’t afford anything like that though with a family. Check out Calvins Car Diary on YouTube, he bought a CAT-C M2 I think it was and modded it. He did it tastefully and he has some good cars through his garage.

I had a Disco II back in the day, it was under a full service package while it was new (and under warranty), crazy time in my life, left it (aka, gave it) to someone, moved on. Don't ask 😀

Is the M2 a manual or the DCT option? I really love the M2, I think it's more of an M-car than the M3 - even though it's a touch down on power vs. the latter, the wheelbase/weight make it more spry, turn-in, balance, it just __feels__ more like an M.

I figured that as long as they’re doing all that, I‘ll have them change the fluids in the diffs and transfer case, and do a transmission service. The car is just about to turn 50,000 miles, and is old enough (2014) to warrant doing that. It has new brakes, so nothing needed there.
Can’t think of anything else to do at this point, but I’m certainly open to suggestions.

Id' say transmission / drivetrain. I see where they're doing a service, but I'd ask about anything else, better clutch packs, coolers, etc., though generally, unless you're into the 700-800s+ on modern cars, and doing line lock dumps, they're pretty solid 😀

I just drove the MG from the shop to my parents house.

Unfortunately, after forking over an additional $1K check, I couldn't get it over 40mph on that 10 mile trip.

I looked when I got home, and first of all plug wires 2 and 3 were reversed. I'd mentioned this to them since I noticed it in photos I'd taken. I swapped them, and it wouldn't run at all.

Walked away and thought some more, then walked out to play with it. The way an MG engine is "normally" set up, when #1 is at TDC on the firing stroke, the distributor rotor normally points to 1:00 or so. There's nothing "magic" about this position, and the drive gear can go in at any orientation. I started moving wires around, and finally with #1 at the lower left position on the distributor(looking down at it) and the others following in order, it roared to life. I hopped in, went out for a drive, and it drove better than it ever had. I couldn't believe how much power and how much pep it had-easily the peppiest 4 cylinder MGB I've ever driven.

It still needs a bit more tuning work, but it's running phenomenally.

5 years and counting of ownership for me!

If I make the 300 mile trip in it tomorrow, that should get the rings seated well. That SHOULD hopefully get me in good shape now.

There's more to be done, and TBH I'm a bit frustrated. I brought in a set of freshly rebuilt carbs that were done by the best SU guy this side of the pond, and they should have been pretty darn close to bolt on ready. Considering that it wasn't firing right, they spent a while chasing their tails and I think the mixture is all shot to heck. Hopefully I can get it dialed in tomorrow morning. We're not headed out until later in the day.
