I posted my order sheet in this thread late last year and took delivery this past July, but I never got around to posting any pics. So here they are.

Exterior color is Go Mango.

Interior is Demonic Red.

And of course the star of the show...

For off-road driving I would prefer a Land Rover. The Range Rover is not nearly as reliable.

I would take consumer reports with a huge pinch of salt. It's hilarious the kind of reliability cars can get marked down for, even if people have issues with the infotainment system etc. In the EV sector we've had some deep dives regarding the Polestar 2 on that as it weirdly scored really bad in the USA compared to the rest of the world, and it was just weird in their methodology how very small samples of what are basically whinges, and general technology limitations can drag a score down badly. In my opinion, they are outdated and should stick to reviewing toasters and the likes.

Yes, for pure continuous off-roading, but realistically, who does that unless you are a farmer. The Land Rover Defender would be a great car, but again it is much more utilitarian, even the current one. Reliability of the Defender vs the Range Rover? Nah, not buying it. It's like anything maintain it and treat it well and it treats you well. Core mechanical systems are absolutely solid and get's you home no problem. Besides they are just a car, just with a lot of comfort features added to it. The off-road systems are some of the best in the world.

If one day we have a quantum leap in battery tech, sure, but for now maybe if I had a jay leno garage I’d get that Tesla roadster for kicks, but for real use, I haven’t seen a electric that would do the job 🤷‍♂️

Within the next 2 to 3 years we will be seeing EV's with up to 600 miles of range so your needs will be met in that regard fairly soon. Right now, options are limited for extreme cases like yours I will admit.

Well yeah; I mean, if money were no object, I'd love a G-Wagon. I can afford one now, but I also want to afford other things (e.g., house renovation; paying it off quickly; etc.), and in the end, it's not my vehicle - it's my wife, and *SHE* loves it, so happy wife happy life and all that. 🙂

One day 98% to like 19% and not going really anywhere was pretty bad, but my style of driving is between aggressive and azzhole 😂
But compared to my current rides, I didn’t really really get on it even as I had a coworker with me

The other issue I had was the weight, it’s got a low CofG but transitioning corners and heavy braking you could feel the weight and she’s no feather weight
I have a police interceptor utility, basically the cop version of a ford explorer, and it’s easier to toss into the corners than that Tesla

Well, I will put it this way: if I were to keep one or the other past its manufacturer's warranty, I would keep the Land Cruiser. At least in most of US the Land Rover's maintenance can be a lot more expensive than the Land Cruiser, and isn't as reliable as the latter. As for off-road driving, I have no idea how such roads are where you live, but where I live I would never drive a Land Rover in such a rugged terrain. There are a great number of gravel roads in Alaska and Northern Canada.

I second that.
One thing that does worry me about mass EV adoption is the fact all these boy racers are going to realise EV’s have rapid acceleration. I think there will be a lot of accidents due to this. Right now I do enjoy the instant speed you get if you need to get around someone on the motorway, or if you’re in the wrong lane at the lights and need to correct it, but I don’t drive like an idiot. I’ve been driving 24 years and it’s well out of my system.

That’s a valid point. They should have a software limiter on anyone under 25.
Or just increase the driving age from 17 to 30 or 40 would be fine by me too! 😀

It has improved a bit, I’ve done some SCCA stuff over the years, it has improved my speed through the corners


Stay out of the fast lane and it should be no factor for you

I feel that a lot of EVs are quick but not fast. Meaning that you can drive them quickly in real world road conditions where having a responsive accelerator and lots of torque help. In those conditions you are not really driving all that fast. But a lot of EVs don’t accelerate quite as fast in straight line or higher speeds. Some EVs do specialize in that and are properly fast, though.

I think it is more EV are always in launch control mode and super easy to access the full off the line power. Even your V-8 mustang off the line from idle is going to struggle to beat a lot of EVs to 60.

To get the full speed you have to have the engine rev up and in its power band. It takes time to do that from idle.

Basically for your average person EVs have a lot more power for the butt dyno and ease of access to full power. No turbo lag. I have a Mach E and a turbo power Santa Fe. Mach E has a lot more power but the Santa Fe I have felt it’s turbo lag kick in.

Try better ICE cars; on the cheap end, a VW Golf R with DSG gearbox blows most away. Even a not much more expensive BMW M2C with its twin turbo will go even faster, let alone in the corners, and just keeps on going again with that excellent dual clutch gearbox. And when you mention supercharged direct injection V8s they are pretty damn quick in their power band, as in as good as instant.

But yes, perhaps up to 30mph (ca. 48 km/h) the instant EV torque has the upper hand, thereafter most will be left for dust, and even more so as they keep going well beyond 100mph (ca. 161 km/h), unlike many EVs. The Tesla Plaid, top-end Porsche Taycan, and the top-end Lotus Eletre are the exceptions. Audi EVs are definitely not in that category, very reserved with power. And also with Mercedes, only the top-end models have those party tricks.

Don't get me wrong, we like our Polestar 2 with performance upgrade, but I know its limitations. Despite it having more power on paper, it doesn't even come close to the cheaper and less powerful BMW M2C we had before that.

But seriously, the Santa Fe may have a turbo, but it is only a 7.6s 0-60 car. It is, like I mentioned before, pretty damn slow, so I'm not surprised a Mach E feels quick.

If there is one thing that irritates me, it is lane hoggers. And especially the kind that do it on purpose and start brake checking as well. Why? Just why? Why not just move over, it really shouldn't be that difficult.

A limiting factor of both EV's and ICE automobiles relates to speed/drive range. In this case the faster the drive, the shorter the drive range. The main difference is that since fuel is a lot denser than electrical power, the ICE automobile can achieve a longer drive range. Batteries are very heavy, while fuel isn't.

The average, EV accelerates faster than the average ICE automobile, and the only way to offset that difference-a few seconds later- is by a HP increase in the ICE automobile (if traction and aerodynamics are similar for both automobiles).

I seem to have opened up a can of worms talking about EV’s having quick acceleration. It’s quick enough for me and useful to have the instant torque when needed, but couldn’t give a toss if there are much faster cars out there, doesn’t interest me one bit in all honesty, and wasn’t the reason I mentioned it. EV’s have their limitations, especially in sparse countries many on here live in, but they are well suited in continents like Europe where the networks are fast improving. I appreciate we can only comment on our own car experiences and what is relevant to us, do naturally opinions on cars are going to be very different.

Agreed, feel no need to drive aggressively, even with serious horsepower on tap. I’ll get on it sometimes, but it’s never in a manner that’s being an *******. Mainly freeway on-ramps or from stoplights on roads that are 50+. Some people act like they’ve got something to prove when they’re driving. Me, I’m usually just trying to get to work or home from work. Sometimes in a Hellcat, sometimes in a minivan. Other than some fun when going 0ish to 60ish, I typically drive my car more conservatively than my van. If nothing else, I don’t need any more un-needed attention in the car than it already gets. Guess you could say I speak softly but carry a big stick lol.

Always on the left unless overtaking in my country thank you.
No one said I drive slowly. I just drive at the correct speed for the road and the conditions.

Those that speed or drive aggressively in my experience are just trying to assert their masculinity to hide their shortcomings in other areas. I’ve never suffered from any shortcomings in those areas, but you do what you need to do.

Anyway driving fast is not always driving aggressively. While I push the speed limit now and then, my wife drives her RAV4 like a member of the AARP. I would never tell her that since every spam mail we receive from the AARP she tosses in the trashcan. Hmmm...I wonder if I could get away with telling her that she drives like a member of the AARP? I could always blame you for it, right?

Yeah, yielding the passing lane to faster drivers seems somehow courteous to me. Plus, here in the US, it's what you are supposed to do.
