As far as I know there has never been any difference between the midrange MacBook and the BlackBook except color and a larger hard drive. Maybe you were comparing yours to the low-end MacBook when you bought it.

I do believe when first introduced there was a difference in CPU/HDD/RAM between the mid macbook and the black one.

How could you check that out?

I originally saw it in the Macbook Guide. When I was researching the BlackBook before buying I remember seeing there that the BB was always just like the mid-range MacBook, only with the different color and larger HD.

I hope MR is right about this (my reputation as a researcher may depend on it ;)).

Even if I am wrong about the *always* I'm pretty sure that by the time Apple was making the Rev. B MacBooks (the one jmchen3 bought), they were very alike to the mid-range (because that's what Apple was selling at the time when I was interested in buying and I've paid close attention ever since).

...that was one of the reason i got the black one back then with 2 ghz c2d 1 gb ramn and 120 hd

But it's irrelevant anyways. I was just pointing out what I remember learning.

Personally, I don't like the look of the white Apple symbol against the black. I don't know why...it just comes across as pretentious and annoying to me.

Also, to all the people who are talking about the MacBook yellowing, and this is honestly a question, does it still yellow? Because I thought that this problem was addressed...? Can someone please clarify?

The only bad thing about the MacBook (Black) is Apple insist on giving you white accessories (power brick, remote control etc.).

I was disappointed by that, I at least figured for the extra $ they could give me a matching power brick! Whatever though... apple accessories are white, what can you do?

Yes, the yellowing problem has been resolved (as of Rev. B I believe)

You are just paying for the color, this gets brought up everyday when someone debates which MacBook they should get.

Black is a professional color whereas white is not.
That just depends on the buyer, I on the other hand feel the opposite of this.

Apart from the extra HD space, the Black macbook is all about aesthetics. It is sexy as hell but I was short on cash so I settled for the white.

I just paid the black tax. I like the look of the black MacBook much better than the white. And I like the slight matte finish on the black versus the smooth, slick plastic on the white.

My wife has a white 2.0GHz Core Duo model that I was using for a while while deciding if the MacBook was the right machine for me - screen size and integrated graphics and such.

Bought the black one tonight (typing on it now), even after playing with a few MacBook Airs at my local Apple Store. The Air is a very sexy machine, but in the end I think I'd need more storage space and more RAM, and I believe I'd need the optical drive enough such that carrying the external drive would seriously reduce any weight savings I'd otherwise have.

:apple:Once you go black... you never go back.

Black is a professional color whereas white is not.

You can keep saying that, but that doesn't make it true. Professionalism is wholly dependent upon the person using the laptop, and not upon the laptop itself. If your presentation is illogical, it won't matter what color laptop you used to present it. If you know what you're doing, people won't even notice the laptop.

I knew what I was doing when I bought a refurb blackbook and people notice that white apple against the black satin finish when I am out and about all the time:D

Every time someone starts the topic in this forum I wonder why they didn't notice that the question is asked at least twice a week:confused:

Do they need our permission to buy what they want or do they need to justify buying the white instead of the black;)

I just bought a brand new top end BlackBook off ebay for £200 below retail!! It is mint and sealed in the box. I was a bit weary cus of the amazing pirce but I checked his feedback and agreed to meet him rather than ship it. I'm soooo happy with it!

Ok, so I was checking out the online store and noticed something today.

I could purchase a white MacBook with the exact same specs as the BlackBook for $1,374. The BlackBook would be $1,499.00.

So I'm wondering why anyone would even consider the BlackBook. Perhaps this has been discussed before, but just wondering what people's thoughts are...

its like buying a Mustang GT and buying a Mustang GT signed by steve Saleen

I got a black MacBook because it was ex-Demo and was the same price as the the equivalent white one. I think the black matte finish looks nicer, and it is probably less prone to discolouration than the iBook it replaces.

I do agree the black color looks nicer than white. But, I went with white after a few people told me their black ones get a ton of prints and smudges. They were constantly cleaning it.

In addition to the overall look of the computer being so much better in matte black than in shiny white (or in aluminum), at least to my eyes, the image quality of the screen - at least in terms of color brilliance and contrast - is much better when the screen's bezel surround is matte black rather than shiny white (or shiny light aluminum...)

Apple seems to have understood this by offering black for a premium price in the Macbook line, but totally lost sight of this understanding it in the Macbook Pro line... in which black is not offered at all... Go figure...

I might've opted for a Macbook Pro instead of the "Blackbook" I've ordered if the Macbook Pro had simply been available in matte black instead of shiny light aluminum...

The bezel of the white MacBook is a soft grey colour (not glossy at all) and the bezel around the MacBook Pro screen is a similar shade, not glossy, a matte plastic.

On a similar theme – all Sony Bravia's have a Matte, non glossy border around the screen to reduce glare and distractions when viewing.

This seems to be lost on other manufacturers, like Samsung, who insist on using really shiny plastics.

The points about the “invisible” iSight, IR and less distracting border around the screen are all really good ones. I wouldn't be 100% surprised if we saw a black Aluminium MacBook Pro. I have said before if Apple do it really nicely it could look very good.
