I'm over here enjoying a strong Starbucks and laughing at these responses :D

After every major election, I wonder how it is that so many people are misinformed or ill-advised about certain things going on with their country or the world as a whole. I mean I don't even try to keep up with mass media news as it's just too much, and yet I'm still able to take things with a grain of salt, or discern a truth from a lie...

...and then I jump onto threads like these. People make a mountain out of a molehill sometimes :apple:.

If I google “sh**, I dropped my phone in toilet”, you will find hundreds of thousands occurrences globally. Does this mean I am going drop my iPhone in toilet? No, because I don’t use my phone while taking a leak or the other one.

My point is that there are precautions to take so that burn in doesn’t happen. Don’t turn on brightness to max all the time. Or have always on display showing an stationary image. Like those on display model in store etc.

Since many iPhone and Samsung models are IP67 nowadays, dropping in toilet will not kill your phone. But if you keep it there for a week may. Same goes with amoled burn in. Manufactures has both hardware and software improvements to make burn in much less of a problem today. I bet you will get more micro scratches on your phone housing than burn ins. There will be tear and wear for everything.

Think of your amoled screen like phone battery. It wont last forever, the more you charge, the less charge it will hold. When it reach a point, replace the screen just like you would with battery. I remember Apple said they designed their iPhone to last 3 years and I highly doubt the screen will fail within this time under normal usage.

Not as big of an issue with modern Samsung screens and there are software tweaks, which Apple has stated they are implementing, that help mitigate the issue.

Specifically search for instances of the S8 series getting burn in for a much better picture of the situation.

As we all know the screen for iPhone X is from Samsung. And the Samsung "AMOLED burn-in" problem is very famous and everyone in the android side knows it. Just google "AMOLED burn-in" if you don't know about it. Basically after around a year, there will be some permanent burn-in marks on the screen and there is no way to solve it.

I have no idea why people feel excited about this coming new screen, I personally would not get one.

It will only make sense if you will buy a new phone after a year anyway. I don't buy new phone every single year especially for a phone that is $1000 (it is $13xx-$14xx in a lot of countries) without counting the apple care, fast charge cable, wireless dock, case, screen protector............

While this is a Samsuck screen it's in every way Apple as well. Apple engineers have tweaked the screen to their specifications and standard. It's NOT what you have in a Samsuck phone. Apple would never allow this to happen.

Considering that it doesn’t happen in Samsung devices it won’t happen to the iPhone X. However let us just pretend that Apple have added some special sauce which is going to make the screen better than a Samsung display despite the fact that Samsung have been making oled displays for years.

To my eyes and the eyes of others Amoled displays have a grainy look, particularly when showing a white background. For me even the display on the Apple watch has a grainy aspect. I suppose either you see this or you don't, but it bothers me and I shudder when looking at phones like the Pixel.

As an example: "The negative of pentile screens is that they can appear grainy, or appear to be lower resolution due to the larger, more visible sub pixels" from https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/amoled-vs-lcd-which-screen-is-best-for-your-phone/

And then there is the whole issue with Pulse Width Modulation flickering to control brightness on Amoled. I know Apple has to go with this screen technology to make the X, but there are many who don't like the way it looks, despite the consumer buzz around phones that use Amoled technology.

So I hope the Apple display is better or somehow more advanced than those we see on Pixel or Note 8.

It's too bad that Apple decided to create a phone with pulse with modulation PWM. I expected more form them. There are a lot of people that are sensitive to this, if you are not, good for you! It's my understanding that companies implement PWM to decrease brightness because it's cheap. I'm not sure why they think flashing the screen at someone's eyes is a good idea but they do it.
