I really doubt that the OP (or any of us for that matter) can think of something regarding OLED that Apple (or Samsung) hasn't already thought of. This is years in the making and I don't expect it to have burn-in issues.

As we all know the screen for iPhone X is from Samsung. And the Samsung "AMOLED burn-in" problem is very famous and everyone in the android side knows it. Just google "AMOLED burn-in" if you don't know about it. Basically after around a year, there will be some permanent burn-in marks on the screen and there is no way to solve it.

I have no idea why people feel excited about this coming new screen, I personally would not get one.

It will only make sense if you will buy a new phone after a year anyway. I don't buy new phone every single year especially for a phone that is $1000 (it is $13xx-$14xx in a lot of countries) without counting the apple care, fast charge cable, wireless dock, case, screen protector............

I've had lots of amoled phones and used them for more than a year each, never had burn in. I've had (and still have) nexus s, note2, note 3, Samsung tab s, Samsung j3, s8+.

...
At least the iphone 6/6s/7/8 doesn't have this problem to worry about.

Are you sure? Also consider, if a display model ever had burn in, you can be sure an Apple employee will switch it with a good model.

That looks like a third party replaced lcd lol.

Anyways ambled is fine. Burn in really is not a huge issue at all for ME personally the issue is the pentile matrix. I can tell it t has it and at times the phone (note 8) isn’t all that sharp especially for area with a lot of white and grey involved. The effective ppi isn’t as high as the advertised ppi.

Also Apple Raised the price of AppleCare due to the higher cost and frequency of having to replace OLED Burn in on people devices. So even Apple is getting ready.
Burn in is not an issue anymore with modern OLED displays. The reason why Apple most likely raised the price was due to the panel itself costing a lot more to replace. LCD panels are relatively cheap to replace if smashed. Oled panels by contrast are far more expensive even if you use a third party vendor. I remember a few years back my husband smashed his iPhone 4 screen and took it to a third party repairer to fix. We only paid £30. At the time I had the galaxy S3 which had an oled display. The person who fixed the phone looked at my phone and said whatever you do don’t smash that screen otherwise you might as well just buy a new phone. He explained that it was very expensive to get a new amoled panel. Said it would cost a few hundred pounds.

Well...

1. This was a problem with early amoled screens and technology has advanced.

2. Apple has burn in protection protocol in the firmware.

3. If (and it won’t) becomes an issue, Apple has a proven track record of mass repair programs.

4. Android is more susceptible to burn in issues due to their always on displays and the lock screens with those big fugly digital clock numbers.
The AoD moves periodically to prevent burn in.

Yes of course Apple are new to the game but will not have burn in issues. Yet Samsung who have used Amoled displays for the last 6-7 years couldn’t have worked out how to avoid it yet.

Ah well just as well Apple ate riding in on their white horses to save the industry from themselves again.

So many posts not sure if this has been said already....
But this could be why Apple don’t want devs blacking out the status bar around the notch. If you read the article linked the issue seems to be with an “always on” section of the S8 screen. As far as I know the X doesn’t have that.
The always on display rotates so
Burn in is not an issue.

plasma was never superior. sure it had darker blacks than low end led sets but it had its own set of issues. Namely having to be in a basement, heat, weight, power usage, burn in, etc. a fully back lit led set was a much better choice.

Maybe you had a AMOLED screen in 2010. So much has changed......and you probably never had one seeing that you are a frequent iPhone supporter.

Actually I have had Samsung’s in the past with amoled screens and they have had screen burn with the keyboards. That’s why I am a frequent iPhone supporter.

I hope no one actually changed their decision to buy the iPhone X based on this thread and what I was reading is pure sarcasm. This guy is obviously trolling.

It is not an assumption, it is a fact. Just google
AMOLED burn-in
it must happen after you keep using the phone, the question is just when it starts to happen.

Just here to tell this suspended person that the screen is apple’s own specification and apple has a pixel shifting software solution for it also. So make your own assumption but never say it out aloud without research.

LCD does not have burn in why show this even...

I get this but it well documented this isn’t a Samsung AMOLED. This an Apple AMOLED that Samsung is making.

Because of one post, you have changed course? How about doing your own research on the matter, and then make an informed decision? No need to make rush decisions much less assume that because Samsung is the maker, that the iPhone will automatically have burn-in problems. It may or may not.
Apple has specific specs that they use for buying screens from Samsung. There is a reason the Apple screen is 625 nits brightness. Half the note 8 brightness. The worst burn in is happening with pixel phones. They source screen from LG. Which has less experience making phone screens. It’s more than just greed that is causing Samsung to charge Apple $130-140 per screen when the cost is like $35 for previous screens.

Apple is using PenTile. The 7 Plus/8 Plus will technically still look sharper. Used OLED since 2011, find them overrated but never experienced burn-in ever from five phones which had OLED. I had Nexus One for nearly three years.

Nexus One
Samsung Focus
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Samsung Galaxy S7 edge
Google Pixel

Michael Fisher/Mr. Mobile coming from the Android world since Android Central is under the umbrella of MobileNations wasn't really wowed by the display.

Burn in requires the phone to be displaying the same content, at high brightness, over a long period. The only candidates for that on iOS are the status bar icons and the home bar, but even those change position and change color.

So unless you set your phone to never auto lock and leave some random app open constantly I doubt you are going to see significant burn in on the display.

And if you are concerned I would guess we have a week or so till some random youtuber does a burn in test by leaving the same thing on screen for a week.

By the time burn in ever comes to your iPhone X, you will probably most likely have the next version of the iPhone. Burn in usually takes over 2 years unless you keep it on the fullest brightness for long periods of times so you will never see it most likely. Yeah you will see it in the store displays at Best Buy since for some reason they never have those phones set on auto brightness. The key to no burn in is to stay on auto brightness or in Samsungs case adaptive auto brightness and turn it up or down when necessary.

Remember, even IPS LCD has chance of burn-in.

He liked the notch though.

Seems Apple standardized their AMOLED screens to be similar to the iPhone 8 Plus as possible down to the brightness etc. One tech reviewer on youtube said it looks like a slightly brighter and slightly more vivid version of the iPhone 8 Plus screen with similar color attributes except for those near perfect blacks of AMOLED but with few true differences.

If you have a iPhone 8 Plus, be happy....you are not missing out on much. So you made a good decision.

I’ve got a Gen1 Pixel XL which I think also uses a Samsung OLED very similar to what is going on the iPhone. Never had an issue. I’ve used it all year.

That said... I also don’t go looking for one by trying to play full screen videos which are 25 min of “grey” like some folks do when they obsessivly try to find faults on screens.

You WILL see burn-in at stores where they have constant Demo loops running even on the highest quality screens like those in the Note series.

Never understand mentality of people........make my day.....I found spec under screen with my 10x microscope. Then see phones at restaurant next to me with enough filth stuck to screen, can barely see image.....yuck. Wash your phone will you, trying to eat here.
