Hey!
I love MacRumors, but why is the community so awful? No matter what the news is about a lot of people are bashing Android and Windows devices all the time and saying stuff like: "I wouldn't even take those devices for free".
What's up with people bashing everything? Who cares if you wouldn't take it for free? Who cares if you haven't seen anyone using a Xiaomi device? In my country I see more Xiaomi devices and Xiaomi stores more than anything. Most people that I know are using Xiaomi or Huawei devices and are switching to Xiaomi from iPhone etc…

Sometimes this forum is as awful as one of them Android forums or YouTube comment sections about Apple. I've used both Android and iOS and Windows and macOS and they're all the same thing, really.

Why do people have a constant need to do this? I'm not any better, because I get a bit upset when I read comments like that, but yeah…

Most every time I see a comment where a brand is being presented, no matter what it is, someone is complaining:

Mac vs Windows
Nikon vs Canon
Playstation vs Xbox
iOS vs Android

It's just habit for people to complain. Some people like to justify their purchases by complaining about the other side. Some people find a feature they really want and are jealous of the other side and complain anyway. 😆

Apple does get it's own fair of critisim on occasions but what you have to stop and remember is that Macrumors is a Apple site for Apple owners/fans/supporters of Apple and as such, when ever there are discussions relating to the differences or comparisons between Apple and any other company, a huge majority of the sites members will defend Apple to the ends of the earth because they behold Apple to god like status. Even when Apple is clearly in the wrong on some decsions it has made, the support Apple get's from the sites membership base is bewlidering.

I think you get your fair share of “awfulness“ no matter what forum you’re on, or to go even deeper, throughout life in general.

What you have to remember is not everyone thinks and feels the same way you do so unfortunately differences will be apparent. You can’t please everyone.

Definitely. Though I think it goes way beyond just brands. People are just tribal.. about everything. Our gadgets are better than your gadgets. Our team is better than your team. Our party is better than your party. Our nation is better than your nation.

With new sites/forums, sometimes it's less evident. But the longer it's around and the longer people are on it, the tribalism emerges again.

I once made a simple statement of fact - an anecdote about a family member. Someone actually downvoted /disagreed with it even though it’s literally something you can’t disagree with as “revenge” for downvoting some stupid comment they made.

This place is full of immature people, many of them barely older than children and with thousands of active posters, you’re really going to notice this.

This post just proves the ops point as to maybe one cause of why there is a lot of discussion/arguing/bickering.

Social media is a cesspool so you have to expect this kind of thing. It plays to peoples darker side, and since most are anonymous, they can say the things they wouldn't IRL, and be bigger jerks to others on the forum.
Sure, but facebook has proven that even without anonymity people will still do awful things and proudly tell the world about it.

My recommendation is to visit some Android or Windows forums and you'll get the exact opposite bias. That way, you'll can get some balance of perspective. If you own Apple products, this is a great site for tips, questions and insights. There are better places for Windows users.

I used to be a moderator on the Android Central forums and sometimes the hate for all things Apple was so thick I could feel it.

I think I already mentioned this. It's the same on Android subreddits and on YouTube. There's always someone bashing Apple.
"Samsung listens to what we want, unlike Apple 🙄" etc comments and the funniest thing is I saw such comments on Samsung Galaxy A72 videos, while I've noticed that many Samsung fans were disappointed with A72. A72 is almost the same phone as A71 and yet people bash Apple for releasing "the same phone" every year.

A lot of Mac users also bash Windows for it's ads, but I've never seen a single ad on Windows, but luckily the last time someone replied that it might be region based.

My question rather is: Why's everyone biased? Why comment stuff like: "I wouldn't even use Android / Windows if you paid me to" or "I wouldn't use Apple devices even if you paid me to". I mean, to be honest with you…I would.

Windows 10 certainly does have ads. Just search "disable windows 10 ads" and you will find all sorts of windows related websites showing how to switch it all off all over the place. Here is an example, but it's not exhaustive, since this article misses some settings

I don't have to turn them off, because I've never seen a single ad in Windows 10 nor it has had Candy Crush. It only tries to force you to buy Office.

People tend to be tribal, whatever grouped in political views, nationalities, food, computers, etc... everything is an excuse to attack others and become a tribe, it's part of our primitive mind and subconscious. I am on my own tribe, the tribe that doesn't care about tribes... but still is a tribe.
Exactly this. I used to spend a lot of time in photography forums, and discussions there often devolved into a rather ugly Canon vs. Nikon war. This was particularly fascinating to me, as an experienced photographer (which I for the record am not) could use either tool to create a great photo, and each system clearly had strengths and weaknesses. While all of us have reasons -- sometimes deeply considered reasons -- for choosing a particular platform, device, tool, whatever -- we would do well to not let that choice become part of our core identity.

I love Apple stuff. But when Apple falters, I want Microsoft (or Samsung or whomever) to show them how it's done -- and vice versa. That's how our stuff gets better over time.

I think it's a combination of a few tropes: sour grapes, fear of missing out, and the sunken cost fallacy.

Pouring a lot of money into a new gadget only to read that it's missing feature X from its competitor makes people defensive.

Then there's the sheer amount of teens and young adults that have their identities tightly wrapped around their preferred brands, causing them to treat any alternative as an affront to their own existence.

Ok, wait. So, you’ve loved Macrumors since, uh… January, but not the community, which you admit you are part of the bad aspects? Good on ya, mate!
