I believe that we will see a speed bump later this year and a redesign in the new year.

The curved back look is on its way out. Wait for a new less tapered look on all the portables, esp the MBA.

Apple needs to tweak the design after a couple of years to reflect the performance jump to those who know little if anything about specs (and don't care to either); this one looks newer so it must be better.

Don't get me wrong, they'll still be 'thin and pretty', in much the same way that the iPhone 4 is as compared to the 3GS.

Would be nice too see 512megs of memory on the base model's GPU.

I don't even need it, but it's the principle of the thing i suppose.

ATI are working on their own equivalent of optimus, and there is a good chance that their technology will be ready by the next MBP refresh.

So, ATI Pros are plausible.

A redesign is very unlikely. The current unibody design is not even TWO years old. Apple purposely trumpeted the manufacturing process with the "carved from a single block of aluminum" and whatnot so it seems silly to depart so quickly from it. Keep in mind that the classic MBP had a design that was used for nearly six years from the PowerPC days and the unibody design is just so much more robust and elegant. It just doesn’t make sense as people (new Mac users) are only just starting to recognise the unibody design as MBPs so the design has more mileage to come.

If Llano is used I wouldn't be surprised if most of the lineup uses just the Llano GPU and not an additional discrete GPU.

Since Llano's been delayed a bit, the chance of a small speed bump later this year as people here have been speculating may have increased, that is, if the MBPs go Llano.

I agree on the above two points, a redesign is pretty unlikely.

I wonder if this End of 2010/Fall update began with people reading that Anandtech review of the Mid 2010 model.

Guys, correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like the discussion in this thread of a possible fall update is focusing on the 15"/17". Any chance of the 13" getting a minor CPU/GPU bump?

well i am curious how they would give the MBP13 a speed bump later this year.....how can they bump from the P8800 C2D ?!

A 2.8ghz C2D (P9700) would be nice. I'm not good with these things but would a P9700 be any larger than a P8800? Seeing as that would cause a concern for the size of the tiny logic board in the 13".

Is there any speculation as to which GPU could be used, if there was an update to the graphics?

Thinking about it, there's probably only a small chance they will bump the GPU.. I just hope they do, realising that it's really really underpowered and they are now using HD 5000 chips in the iMacs.

I'm a bit behind on the ATI-Intel politics but what now are the chances of the HD 5000s appearing on the MBP line?

For the love of god just give me an HD 5670, it's literally the perfect chip for the MacBook Pro in every. single. way. It couldn't be more screamingly obvious that this is what should be in the Pro, not the 330M...

So far since the Intel switch, every two years there's been a major new revision in the spring followed by a speed bump in the fall. Since we just had a major change to the Westmere architecture in April (skipping Nehalem) I expect that there will be a minor speed bump in November. 2011 should bring one or two more minor speed bumps. The next major architecture change may be Sandy Bridge, or they may skip Sandy Bridge and go to Ivy Bridge, the process-shrunk version of Sandy Bridge on the "tick" part of Intel's cycle, like they did with Nehalem. Depending on Intel's schedule this is likely to be Spring 2012.

So you guys think i should wait a little longer before i order my MBP???

Depends on how long you can wait and what you're waiting for. If apple follow their previous schedule, we could expect them to be released around November.. But this could very well be delayed to early 2011 too, nobody knows. Also, as many have said, I would guess we won't see any radical changes this update - probably just a speed bump or similar minor things.

I can wait if its a major update... I would just feel me a little stupid if i get my MBP the 1 of sep and the new one comes the 15 sep....

I will most likely be buying a 15" mbp i7 within the next 2-3 maybe weeks... hmm maybe its safer to wait just a few more?

I gotta ask but what do you think the changes are that Apple and Intel has figured out a way to put Core i3 in the next MBP 13"?
Maybe a new motherboard and new card or something?

Need advice....
Would you guys wait for the MBP i7 with 2.8 GHZ or buy the MBP i7 2.66 GHZ NOW??????

Browsing around the forums, I've kinda grown to assume they won't be releasing a 2.8GHz MacBook Pro. Simply because it's too big to have in a dual core format. It would almost have to be quad core. And because of all the fanboys out there, they won't really enjoy having a thicker MBP, and apple won't really like blowin all the cash to change the way the MBP is designed.

YES that's exactly what i want also!

Well.. i3 isn't really that much better than c2d - almost identical speed actually, depending a little on the task performed. And I don't think an i5 will physically fit inside a 13" if they don't do something radical with the gfxboard (since it requires separate gfx chips that take up quite a lot of circuitboard space). I doubt we'll see this in the near future.

What I'm hoping for is a 13" with highres/antiglare option, and perhaps a minor speedbump. I also wonder when they'll start using faster memory than 1066 Mhz, those are starting to feel outdated.
