What I'm hoping for is a 13" with highres/antiglare option,

YES! Personally, I can't stand the glossy screen with the low resolution 1280x800 display. Had a 13" before my current 15" and the screen was just annoying and limiting. Matte screen with 1440x900 or something around there would be perfect.

Here here! Higher res on the 13's pllllllzzzzzzzzz. And matte. And it would be smart of them to do this as they could still keep the c2d's in them and get crazies like us to purchase out of date cpu's. But by god I would!

Why don't you just purchase a higher resolution anti glare screen right now and put it in?

Sony 13.3 and hp 13.3 and asus 13.3 all use them. Just go to ebay and pick one with the right connection and replace it. It should only be around 100 bucks on ebay.

I just don't understand why you would as high quality display is the reason why I purchased this Macbook Pro 13.

We're not as crazy as you might think. I really hope they speed bump the C2D rather than trying to cram in an i3/i5.

Pros for C2D:
Proven stability.
Lower operating temperatures.
Lower power consumption.
64-Bit, they still are a processor of the "future".
As fast as similar clocked i3's.
i5/i7's show meager gains in REAL WORLD tests. (http://www.anandtech.com/show/3762/...ly-2010-reviewed-shaking-the-cpugpu-balance/3)
C2D layout is a single cpu die and single graphics/controller die, compare this to the maze of the i5/i7 architecture.

Cons for C2D:
It isn't the shiniest, newest thing out.
Doesn't score as high in unrealistic Cinebench/Geekbench testmarks.
Um...

I've been using a Powerbook G4 as my daily driver for going on the last 6 years. My point is, it's not about having the newest/greatest hardware out there, it's how you use it. I've been waiting ages to upgrade to intel, and frankly I'm disgusted by their monopolistic business attitude.

Here's what I want to see from Apple to finally jump the PPC ship:

13" MBP
C2D at 2.8gHz, BTO option for 3.06gHz
High Rez option.
Current battery is 63.5wHr, bump to 17"s 68wHr and we can get 10+ Hours!
Upgraded video card, maybe 512mb of VRam w/ 8gb installed?

I had been planning to wait until maybe next March, since my company would pay up to $1000 toward a new computer (for personal use) every 3 years. We have been purchased, and that benefit goes away before I have the chance again. 2+ years ago I bought the Mac Pro with the money (plus $2000 additional :).

So, with no subsidy, I started thinking I could upgrade sooner from my 4 year old Windows laptop. Guess I can wait until later this year to see if a refresh comes out.

Thats probably not going to happen though. The next 13" MBP should be using i3 cpus. I think it will be a long time before we see 512 MB Vram in a 13" pro. I know what your saying about your powerbook though. I used a 15" 1.5 Ghz G4 for most of the last decade, that and my Power Mac G5. The arrandale platform was such a hugh leap in architecture I finally considered it worth it. Couldn't be happier!

I'd love to see an option to get rid of the stupid optical bay. Put there another HDD or more battery. 12h battery life anyone? That would be sweet.

Oh, and for those who need optical drive every now and then - ever heard of USB?

Anyway, it would be a nice option... Ain't gonna happen though.

As for realistic expectations; I can live with C2D, but give me high res screen!!!

Vaio Z with 1600x900 is SWEET!

I would also like 16:9 form factor, but that also won't happen; oddly enough external displays are 16:9, while laptops remain 16:10... Hmm...

(In case you wonder, I find 16:9 perfect for programming; Just enough space to fit 2xTerminal windows side by side)

Oh, BTW, wasn't there an update of mobile chipsets from Nvidia just few days ago? Would be good to swap 320M for 420M orsomething; Nvidia laims 40% faster than their 300M counterparts; keep the C2D, bump the GPU and add an option for the screen and I'd be happy. As it stands, freaking iPhone has a resolution that almost matches 13" MBP; seriously Steeeeeeve?

Ok, Im thinking of picking up a 13" MBP before the back to school offer ends but was just wondering what are the chances of a it getting a i3 core update anytime soon (this year)?

As my understanding is Apple will either have to drop the Nvidia graphics or add dedicated graphics (extremely unlikely) to add i3 core?

So I am guessing only a speed bump might happen, if that. Now I know no one can be sure and will likely just get replies of buy if you need, wait if your don't.

But my situation is I dont actually need one at the moment but was looking to upgrade my laptop in around 1 or 2 months, so if the current configuration is likely to stay the same or only get a proper update in say feb/mar 2011 I would accelerate my purchase to now and take the chance to get a free ipod+printer.

Thoughts?

Apple's time-line for a minor MBP refresh is within the next 1-3 months, I really think they're just going to speed bump the 13" and make the i3/i5 transition later next year.

upgrade now and sell the iPod

i3 is a bit low rent (its like the celeron of the range with hardly any gains over the C2D they use now), maybe for the white macbook and i5 (i7 BTO) for the 13MBP

It would be cool if they released a MacBook Pro with a Quad-Core 3.33GHz i7 chip. Would be pretty dang hot though, but really fast. Probably would run too hot, anyways.

That would involve it gaining like 1lbs just for cooling and it would murder battery

Could it be that Apple introduces a touch screen interface on the Macbook Pros in the next revision?

Will the next revision be just a speed bump or show besides a little upddate on the CPU a new case and new features such as touch interface, 3G, Bluray etc...
