I had this Ram SRT/10 up to 135. It had the Viper V10 engine and 6 speed trans, and a really stiff suspension, it was over 500 hp and 500 ft/lbs of torque. Low 12 sec. quarter mile stock, 0 to 60 in low 5 seconds.

The top end was 155, but I never found a place where I could get anywhere near that fast and stay reasonably safe. I never topped out 5th gear, it had more to give. 6th was overdrive, not much torque left in it. I only kept this truck a couple of years. A few tickets and horrible gas mileage convinced me to trade it in...

With my Dad, in his 2010 BMW M5 (which is delimited), I topped out at 175mph. Did it on an open stretch of highway in the early morning, on the way back from a weekend trip. It could have gone faster, but seeing as I only have been driving for a little bit over a year I thought I should be safe and keep it under 180mph:p

I've gotten hooked on the speedbug, I'm one of those people who does a minimum of 85-90 on the highway. To those of you who stay in the "fast lane" and do 75, I hate you.

Wow, I wish my dad had that outlook on driving... kinda jealous :p

Driving is something me and my Dad do for fun and relaxation; having a dad who views driving as something different than just point a to b, helps... a lot.

My dad enjoys driving but he's very over protective, and doesn't want me driving fast. He'll drive fast himself though, on family trips I've seen the speedometer go up 90 MPH in a 65. I got a speeding ticket 5 months ago for going 28 over (78 in a 50 zone, but it was on a clear and empty highway, with a stupidly low speed limit) and he didn't let me drive for like a while.

180km/h, in my dad's Acura CSX on Ontario 401/403 on the way to Toronto Pearson International Airport. However on his GPS it said the maximum speed as 200 something km/h, and that was in GTA.

(1) In about 1977 in a "new to me" Datson 240Z I was able to go about 115 for 45 minute stretch on i-395 in California. The car would go faster (about 120) but I remember it would over heat if you kept you foot on the floor for more then about 15 minutes

(2) years later in Germany on business we rented a Saab 9000. We got it up to 200K/hr for a very short time, then backed off to 180K.

(3) The title says "driven" so I guess that means anything with wheels, not just cars. I've had a pilot's license for a few years now, but that's cheating.

(4) If "fast" is relative I had a sail boat. It was more a cruiser than a racer a 36 foot Catalina. I had it over 10 knots several times. Our record matched twice was short bursts of 10.7 knots. Both times with a crew of nine people and at night with winds close to 20 knots and coming from just aft of beam with an old spinnaker. On the second time that chute blew up, turned to ribbons we put up the spare and it blew also. With the 240Z I was smart to baby engine. But the sailboat was racing

About 120mph and ran out of road.

Was racing a mini cooper s. He wasn't impressed when my Golf MK4 GT TDI PD blew him out the water. :D

I don't like driving over 100 though. its pretty scary. haha

That's moving for a sailboat! That's a fine boat, too. It'd be great to get back into sailing.

Crossfire

I've had my Crossfire at ~148 and held it there for a good 7 minutes. It's supposed to be "Eletronically Limited" to 150 but it's also a bit aerodynamically limited. Either that or I was actually going 150 and the speedo wasn't accurate, who knows. Car was quiet, smooth. Feeling in the steering wheel felt like the car was standing still. I could move it around from lane to lane quickly and easily with two fingers on the steering wheel and it stopped from that speed in about 6 seconds. There's something about german built cars, however cheap (VW) or expensive (BMW, Benz) that makes them feel "safe" at speed because they are legitmatelly made with the idea of rushing a mom and her kids to soccer practice at 150mph down the germany autobahn. I've driven vettes, a viper, camaros, chargers....they don't have the same feeling. My pos jetta I had before this car felt more stable and confident at 130mph than my friends corvette at that same speed.

Woah, if only your family felt the same way about rape and murder laws, huh?! I especially like the bribery part ;)

The fastest I've driven is about 125MPH in my old mk2 Golf GTI. Saying that, it wasn't particularly fun and was on M25, so it was only from me driving normally at night, looking at the speedo and thinking 'what the hell!'.

Driving fast in a straight line isn't as fun as driving quickly through country b-roads. When I had my Peugeot 205 GTi, it only had a 1.6 engine and a 5 speed low ratio gearbox, but was like a rally car. The first time I had lift off oversteer (in real life) scared me for a second, but hitting the accelerator again got me out of the slide and was pretty exhilarating.

I fear that moving to America, I'll have access only to straight-ish roads so I'll be looking forward to finding some racetracks to get my rush of driving quickly around corners.... My favourite experience was on a track day with one of my friends driving his lightened 205GTi, passing a Porsche 911 and Ferrari 360 just because he could drive better than those guys with more money than sense...

I went 127 MPH two years ago in my parents 2007 Honda Civic going between Ogden and Salt Lake City, Utah. I now realize that that sounds ridiculous in a Civic, I can't believe I was able to do that.

The rule only applies to traffic laws (excluding drunk driving and the like). And bribing a cop is a lot cheaper than the insurance hike for doing 100+mph.

Something a bit over 250km/h on a Honda CBR 1000 in the 90's. On a car though, IIRC was 230km/h on Germany on my dad's old Alfa Romeo. Also in the 1990's. Good times...

The fastest I've gone is a comparatively measly 95mph in my '02 Mustang down the 215 freeway from San Bernardino to Riverside (CA) at 3:30 am. I would've gone faster if not for having to change freeways and there being other traffic around (I'm afraid one of them might be a Hwy Patrol cruiser!)

e: Ooh forgot to add... the fastest I've gone while driving an 18-wheeler is 80mph. Doesn't sound like much, but in a semi it's a whole different story. First off, the speedometer only goes up to 90, and in the company-governed trucks I've only ever driven, the only way you're getting to 80mph is downhill with lots of junk in the trunk. I didn't do it on purpose either, I thought I was just cruising along when I looked at the dash and saw I just hit 80 and instantly thought "oh sh**" and braked down to 65 or so. It was scary.
