I didn't do it on purpose either, I thought I was just cruising along when I looked at the dash and saw I just hit 80 and instantly thought "oh sh**" and braked down to 65 or so. It was scary.

Yes, if you had a "problem", that would be like trying to stop a freight train in less than a mile.

You speed demons try that in the Province of Ontario, and they just might seize your car, and crush it.

My top speeds:

115mph in first an Audi R8 and then a Aston Martin DB9 on a track.

I've also hit about 120mph (ish, I wasn't really looking at the speedo) in a BMW 1 Series on the motorway.

The Law seems to agree with me, unless you are on a closed track.

The problem is that speed limit laws are fundamentally flawed way of controlling traffic that doesn't address the root of the problem.

Inspired by iJon's new car --
What's the fastest speed you have driven at yourself ?

For me, that would be 200 km/h (~ 120 mph). I had borrowed a Mazda MX-5 and made a nice trip with a friend. Didn't drive too long at that speed, though' since with a convertible, it is nicer to drive around 140 km/h (~ 84 mph).

Myself: 240 km/h with my old BMW 732i.

In HS a friend of mine and I were building a 5.0 Stang for him that we picked up cheap. Him and I rebuilt the motor with lots of goodies, and once we broke it in we took it out on the highway and hit 155 (him driving) and it had plenty left in it.

Funny thing though, the car was a project so it had the hood off at the time, and the entire interior was stripped, no back seats, no door panels, no carpet, just two seats and belts. Not even any weatherstripping in the doors so the wind was blasting through the door frames. Nothing like a metal coffin going 155, what a rush.

As for me, I've been up to the governor limited 130 in my Camaro. I'm an idiot though, I did it with the Ttops off; the wind buffeting at that speed can blow the rear hatch glass clean off...I got lucky.
