A received a speeding ticket driving 135 mph in a rental car on a straight flat road thru Arizona. I felt like Hunter Thompson. I was stopped by an officer of the Great Navajo Nation. The cop was on a motorcycle hidden behind the only billboard I'd seen for a hundred miles. Duh! He said it was OK to pay the fine directly to him in cash. I paid and went on my which, perhaps just a little slower.

You just taught me a valuable lesson: when speeding, slow down by any objects that a cop could be hiding behind.

I have broken my record of 60 MPH today, with my new record of 67 MPH. My grandfather took me driving today and we went to Floyd Bennet Field (a former WWI and WW2 airfield/army base) with long empty stretches of road. I couldn't go too fast because I didn't want to get into a bad situation.

First broke the 'ton-up' club in a 1979 Ford Fiesta 1.1 popular plus, me and my pal on a local strip, and took some doing. But beat that a few years later and got 106 out of it, admittedly downhill...

Took a long time to beat that, in an 1985 Ford Capri 2.8i, though it topped out at 131 and it was beginning to lift the front end significantly with the steering becoming too light for my liking, so I left it there...didn't want to press on to the redline (135 maybe?...).

Ten years on, finally got a good clear, quiet run with a 1997 Rover Vitesse, 200bhp Turbo straight-4, and creamed up to 151 (147 on the GPS) with no fuss at all, a complete non-event, no drama, nothing. Just the scenery moving faster. A wolf in sheeps clothing for sure!

Thought i'd have a go at beating it with a 2000 Ford Cougar 2.5 V6, but surprisingly gutless, just 135 and really wouldnt go any faster. Sounded fantastic, but all show - no go...

Dont think I really oughta tempt fate by trying to beat 151, thats fast enough for a big accident if it was done on a public road (which is why its always best done on a racetrack!)

Edit - Managed 88 in a 7.5 tonner and 90 in a Tranny van once....Now thats scary!

155-160 In a 2005 G35 6MT Sedan with wheels from an automatic, which are one inch smaller, which is why I believe I was able to get the speedo to read higher than 155 which is where it's limited at...Things didn't get exciting until 140 and scary until it actually said 160.

Then I did what all intelligent male drivers do...slow down, turn around, and do it again the other way!

I've only done that once, the other time I've gone even close to that fast was when I got a phone call at almost midnight from my father who was in Alaska at the time and said he just got multiple calls from the alarm company saying the house's motion sensor was getting tripped and that I should go check it out. There is a mile and a half bridge between my house and my dad's house where cops can't hide, I got up to 140 in the same car there, and then took the off ramp at 85+ with traction control off....I'm a regular Ken Block! :D

250kph/155mph - bmw 535d touring on a public road legally. It can go a little faster without the limiter.

155 mph. Cover 72 miles in 30 minutes.

Longest closed track I've ever been on

Just when I think the fastest drivers are young men "testing" out some vehicle in an area where they think they can get away with speeding, I see something that blows my mind.

Today on a narrow two lane street in a small, small town with bored cops (who like to ticket anybody going 1 mph over the limit), I saw an 80ish lady going a good 45 in a 25 mph zone. Either she was former Nascar or her reflexes and vision need a serious overhaul. ;)

I think the latter. I had an old lady overtake me in a school zone because I was doing the posted limit (20 when school is in) and she was doing at least 40. That's what causes accidents.

What was weird is that lady looked like she was nodding off and her eyes appeared to be closed. Whatever it was, she wasn't driving and I feel sorry for her when she gets in an accident unless the cops find her first (before she hurts herself or anybody else).

THAT BITCH NEEDS TO GET OFF THE ROAD. Seriously, here in NYC, people like her make driving so much worse. Half the people here don't signal when changing lanes, understand the concept of lanes, or know how to merge with looking.

i went from 109MPH to 0MPH in some 5 seconds or more......... all i know is that i passed this guy on the 405 freeway, little did i knew that when i passed him, downhill their was traffic gridlock......and i breaked as fast as I can before i became part of a toyota matrix's rear end..... it was scary the car drifted and kinda hydroplaned in a way....:(

In my car (Ford Escape) I have gotten up to 110MPH before the damn thing nearly took off. Fastest ever was 115MPH in a Land Rover LR2 at 2AM in South Carolina driving down to Florida.

pfft, you think thats bad, I had some black lady overtake me on the right hand side in the middle of an intersection. Whats worse is the fact that she started screaming that she was gonna sue and all that, and I got the ticket for the accident. She had a dent in her door, I had the whole front end squished to the left. Talk about bullcrap.

whoa. we've got lots of people here that like to go fast! :D

the most i've gone is about 130... km/h. i'm still only on my provisional license, so if i got caught i think my license would be suspended for about a year or something. that would be a major bummer.

but when i get my motorbike... that's a completely different story. i'll be taking that beast to lots & lots of track days. :D

are you still on these forums cb? i am guessing you are off your provisionals now ;)

i hit 180km/h in a '98 subie outback. it wasnt being pushed that hard tbh! at about 5000rpm out of 7000rpm! incredible car, felt so stable. ran out of road though haha.

134MPH was the be all and end all from my beloved Smart Roadster. 80HP with a 0.8litre engine. Although yes it is a matchbox car and a 24" iMac box will just not fit in, at all.
