Once I get either the 2012 13"/15" (will decide when they are released), I will set everything up i.e. all the settings, probably declare my joy on twitter and go on to try Garageband/probably install Logic Pro for synthesizer goodness!

I'll then install all the applications I can think of and transfer all my music from my main hard-drive! Should be a great present for myself!

First thing I did was turn on my awesome new machine and start migrating over all the important stuff, iTunes, Photoshop cs5 Aperture and Final Cut Pro. After that was done I could barely put it down and didn't even want to sleep I just wanted to keep work lol It truly was quite the experience.

lol I am psychic lol Its just the way that it is, I love all of my multimedia programs they are the best. I am especially in love with final cut pro it is soooo awesome. The only downside is that the iLife programs make you want to buy the pro versions. After using iPhoto I had to buy Aperture and after using iMovie I had to have final cut pro.

I'm about to buy my first Mac any minute now (waiting for sales guy I talked to yesterday to get back in the office). It's a MacBook Pro. yes, I know Ivy Bridge is being released soon. But I'm sick of watching Photoshop struggle to breathe on this crappy machine I have now... that and I need an inbuilt Optical Drive :p .

I imagine I'll take several thousand photos. Then set up an Account. Then begin installing CS6, then Office, then all my Sims 3 games/expansion packs.

All the while drooling over the lovely speeds of 16gb ram.

I'm too excited x]

Go partying, just like every weekend! Except the next morning I will bring my current 6y old model in to be recycled at the apple store with a well worth hangover. Then go home and watch Spaceballs on a 17" retina display!
:D

Nahhh, don't recycle it, donate it to good will! Might as well give it to the less fortunate rather than a multi-billion dollar company. :)

Try and find a way to connect my Firewire 400 ODD to it so I can install Traktor. :D

Hey, another DJ on here! What's your setup?

Also, you can just de-activate your old one and download the trial of TP2, then activate it with the code from your old TP2 installation.

Edit: Are you on DJTT by chance? If so, what's your username?

If they dont offer a 17" model: nothing. I wont be buying one. It may sound crazy but the extra 2" of diagonal real estate means a lot to me.

First thing I do on mine is install all the data from my previous computer, or switch the HD out! No way I could live a day with a new computer and not have all my beautiful data

What's your setup? I'm wanting to beatmatch songs, what tips/applications to use would you suggest?

Ok well first thing I would do is definitely go to DJTechTools.com and check out the forums, as well as the blog. A TON of information is held on that site and it helped me so much. I'm new as well and am pretty basic, but use a Native Instruments Kontrol X1 but am looking to pick up another one of those and a Behringer CMD MM1. I only use the X1 with a cheapo Syba $8 sound card for pre-cueing my tracks in Traktor Pro 2. If you don't have any software yet, download either VDJ or preferably the trial version of Traktor Pro 2 from the Native Instruments website. Best of luck and sorry I couldn't be of more help but I'm pretty new. My username there is Mfuchs19, so be sure to say "hi" when you sign up!

Just been there, it seems quite an awesome place to gather info for a newbie like myself! I'll definitely check out the Behringer CMD series of products now you have mentioned them, I've yet to download any software as I'm waiting for the fourthcoming Macbook, but when I get it, I'll be sure to try out Traktor and sign up to DJTT! Thanks!

Here's what I did:

1. Started reading various Mac Web sites and forums to learn more about using my computer.
2. Set up Time Machine to work on my networked hard drive.
3. Installed Office, Quicken Essentials, and Turbo Tax.
4. Transferred data from my Windows laptop.
5. Downloaded trial software I wanted to test.

sounds like you've got it down to a tee.

I used to use AppZapper but found that Finder search did just as good a job.

mind sharing how to totally remove apps using finder?
for example if i type 'yahoo' into finder to remove yahoo messenger nothing shows up...

Transfer files
Install software (Skype, Ad block, Flash, Java, Eclipse (IDE), AppCleaner)
Software update
