i am one that will hold on to my 6+ until next year in hopes for an iPhone 8+ or iPhone Edition+ whatever the hell they are going to call it no why i am downsizing my phone size even for a larger screen size

Don't like these comparisons.. It should be regular S8 vs iPhone 8.. Not a phablet with 6.3 inch vs small iphone with 5.8...

There is nothing really "Small" about a 5.8 iPhone, even if it is narrower or has reduced bezels. The S8 (5.8) is not competing against the iPhone 5.8 OLED model in some aspects. The Galaxy S8 launched back in April, where as the Note 8 is more in line of competing against the OLED iPhone because they launch closer together. The Note has always been the main competitor against iPhone Plus model since it's inception with the 6 Plus, because they were the two largest devices offered by both phone manufacturers.

The S8 kinda is imo. The whole reason it launches away from the iPhone is to keep profits higher. The note was released around the iPhone because it originally didn't compete with it really.

The main downside I see with the cutout is that it can't be used for anything except status. That's like 0.5in permanently gone from the 5.8in screen. Minus another 0.5inch used by the soft home key, you are just left with 4.8 inch effective screen.

Apple could use force touch to return home so no permanent presence of a soft home key is needed.

That’s exactly how it works with the Samsung S8. The home button is invisible from within the App but the area is pressure sensitive and returns you home at any time.

So that large 6.2” display is all usable viewing area for apps.

Ideally Apple isn’t throwing away an inch of display for a fake button all the time.

In sales sales margins, I would agree. The S8 is more in comparison to where the iPhone 7 was in terms of launching the Product Red iPhone. Both The Note 8 and iPhone 8 are entirely separate devices, mainly because it starts with both phones offering the latest in specifications and hardware, at least in terms Of larger devices.
