I believe the rumors are true and Samsung is going to create another line of smartphones using premium materials called the Galaxy F. While I do think metal feels premium, I do think it can be overrated. It dents, scrapes with a different color underneath, high SAR, adds weight, and signal can't always come through. I have seen some dinged up HTC One's that don't look so great with dents you can't just rectify so quickly like with plastic/removable back covers from Samsung. If the Galaxy F is really F for false rumors or just another S4 in a nicer casing, then I believe Samsung will put all their eggs in one basket with the Galaxy Note 4.

In fairness, the S5 doesn't look so bad after watching the Android Authority, The Verge, and Samsung Mobile first-look videos. The black version looks pretty decent but still not on par with the likes of Apple, Sony, and HTC. Samsung didn't use glossy plastic material that attracts fingerprints and would feel slimey after extended use. And while it is water/dust resistant like the Xperia Z series and has a fingerprint scanner like the iPhone 5s, the most interesting feature is actually that heart sensor. The Xperia Z2 might look better but generally more of the same spec bump and a much better screen while the Galaxy S5 seems to have more interesting features and FORESIGHT like a heart monitor, WiFi ac MiMo, and still providing a memory expansion slot up to 128 GB and a removable battery

Some people are forgetting Samsung has already made their way into the medical field with many of the medical equipment manufactured by them. No different than LG getting into the appliance business. My portable air conditioner is made by LG and my washing machine is made by Samsung. They don't just make solely portable electronics or TV's. I guess Samsung is now targetting more health conscious people and the much older crowd.

I expect the Galaxy Note 4 to have ALL those features that the S5 has and then some! And the best designed and interesting gadget by Samsung that was announced in MWC was NOT the Galaxy S5. It was the Gear Fit. I would rather get a Gear Fit than a Galaxy Gear 2 even though the latter looks pretty decent and taking photos is more obscure than Google Glass. Galaxy S5 with a revamped S-Health, heart sensor, and Gear Fit makes a very interesting health conscious combination.

I wouldn't say that the Z2 has a much better screen. They have the same resolution and the difference in ppi is negligible when it gets that high. It just comes down to wether you prefer Amoled or LCD displays.

Seeing as Samsung have announced the event for the s5 for Feb 23rd might as well get this thread up for people to post their thoughts, rumours specs etc

I need
133 GHZ CPU.
10 TB RAM
64 TB Storage memory
Complete unibody metal construction
Teleport to caller instead of calling to caller
Projector to project on IMAX screen size with 5 million PPI.
100Amp battery.
...
rest of features doesn't bother me....

I would also point put that the Z2 is pretty much water proof…while the S5 is water resistant. The Z2 is better in that regards. But then the bezels on the Z2 are quite large….Sony is also throwing in rather nice headphones.

Yes I saw all the goodies that come with the Z2. It's a nice package.

I found the S4 to be a big phone. Uncomfortably so.

The S5 is even bigger. A lot bigger. Getting very close to G-Note status, which is no where I want to be for a phone. Even as a GPE device, I'm going to pass this time around.

GS4: 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm, 130g

GS5: 142.0 x 72.5 x 8.1mm, 145g

G-Note: 146.85 x 82.95 x 9.65 mm, 178g

Feel the same as your. I went from an S3 to a Nexus 5 because it didn't want to keep going up in size. Can't see myself going for the S5 no matter what other nice toys it comes with.

I have to agree. The s4 has the perfect size. S5 should have been a slimmer s4 with 5.2 inch screen and bigger battery

It's a nice phone. If you don't have a 2013 smartphone it's a really good buy.

You wouldn't buyout your contract to get it no.. But s3 owners it's a great upgrade.

Like iPhone 4s users going from that to the 5S...i honestly Don't see any huge improvements from flagships this year from what we saw in 2013.

Just shows how foolish most smartphone buyers actually are. And the strength of Samsung's marketing budget.

Doesn't show anything really.
The statistic doesn't show what phone the people are currently using. If they majority are coming from an S3 or a non-flagship phone then they're not foolish buyers at all.

SMH..people can be informed and still prefer Samsung phones...what kind of dumb arrogance is that thinking? lol@people

Galaxy S5 offers 10.7 GB of usable storage space on 16GB model

The Galaxy S4 was given a lot of flak for using up a lot of the total internal storage for system files, leaving only around 9GB for user data on the 16GB variant. The folks over at Android Central then revealed that available storage space was even lower on the Galaxy S5, indicating that the company has failed to trim down the bloat of its software. However, that’s not the case, asTelekome-presse found out: the Galaxy S5 on display at MWC was simply using up an extra 2.33GB for the demo content related to Samsung’s Unpacked event, demo content that will not be present in the retail version of the device.[

Interesting. That makes a difference.

Even though it may not have gotten all of the upgrades people wanted, it's a very good phone. We'll see how much better the camera is. Once a case is added, the looks are secondary. However, the size increase is a bit surprising, but not that bad.

I'm thinking of getting a Note 3, but the size has me slightly intimidated, so I think an S5 might be the perfect choice instead.

Any idea about s5 possibly getting 64GB embedded ?
I do not get why Samsung and some others do not provide much more storage capacity, notably for pro users...

Pre orders are 130% higher for S5 than they were for s4 it's been reported

Like last year, this is blown out of proportion. Last year Carphone Warehouse announced that GS4 pre orders were ~500% higher than GS3. According to Wikipedia (sadly) pre orders were over 10 million 1 week before launch. GS3 pre order totals were ~9million. Some of these numbers are a little weird b/c there were only 10 million GS4s sold in the first month despite 10 million pre orders 1 week before its first sale.

And to put Carphone Warehouse pre orders into a different perspective, all you have to do is submit your email address and you've pre ordered a GS5!

All that said, no doubt this is going to still be the highest selling smartphone this year.

Yes, it definitely appeals more towards S3 users. The S5 has essentially the same (or similar) CPU hardware as the S4 Advance.
