Apple did very well at crafting the 5S and 5C..They faltered in predicting the right/correct balance in production between the two as they themselves have acknowledged. The 5s was virtually sold out for weeks, while the 5c was available in plenty. The 5C for apple was essentially a refresh of the original 5 that would allow for greater sales and a better margin (due to lower cost)..I do not think anyone would doubt that apple would not have been able to sell as many iphone 5 models at a $100 lower price post 5s launch as they managed to sell 5C's. It gave its consumers "choice" of having different colors and do so at a lower price point. It was in no way a flagship. Although Apple does not release sales of individual iphone models, there is data that indicates that the 5C despite being (for all practical purpose) a cheaper 5 sold much better then flagship phones in its class (Gs4, LgG3 etc) at least in the US. Apple's follie was in production management which is not surprising as apple (unlike samsung) has very little experience in launching multiple handsets in one go and getting the logistical complexity sorted out.

For Samsung its about shedding the image that its phones are "plastic" therefore not premium and the fact that they want the GS family to distinguish itself from the previous generation (as commented upon by its executive). Where I think they are getting it all wrong is that they are trying to create a DESIGNER phone in terms of spec and design. Where HTC and Apple have had success in phone designs is in getting their flagships that look and feel great due to workmanship..They do not bother with having diamond studded models that are 30-40% greater in price compared to the standard flagship. A 800-1000$ phone would hardly do much for Samsung's image (that it itself wanted to change if some of its executive are to be believed) for they have been producing expensive "designer" phone models for some time now..but that has little effect on the design aspect of its standard flagships..
Could not agree more........ I think the Prime or F series is a mistake....

If Sammobile is to be believed (their latest article) the company CEO suggests that their wont be any premium variant of the GS5, but their VC suggests that a new line of premium phones may be on the horizon.

This is again the wrong approach, if premium design and finish is samsung's goal then it should use that approach to bring changes in its design language on its existing flagships that actually sell in the droves rather then create a seperate category of phones in the premium category.

I have a Note 3 and will not go for the s5. Probably will not even check it out in stores.

The next big thing for me? That's easy because once Apple releases an option as far as screen size it is game over for me. As much as I like my Note 3, I still like my 5s more.

Who would have though that with a name like AppleRobert! :apple:
But you are right..... a larger screen iPhone will break all sales records....
I will get one too.....

A month ago I signed up for the Edge Plan and went from the 5s to the S4. Although I like iOS better than Android, the S4 blows the 5s out of the water. Apple nenes to seriously up the ante. I'm hoping the 6 has a bigger screen, if not there's no way I'd come back.

You sure that by buying an S4 your opinion hasn't been skewed in some way? Just saying brah.

I've compared my 5S to my friends S4 and I would go with the opposite.

What pissed me off the most was the location of the samsung speaker, you can't be streaming music with the phone lying on a table.

Seriously, who is listening to streaming music with phone speaker?
Anyway, have you actually listened to GS4 speaker when it lies on table? I did, and the sound is not different than you hold it on your hand.

AT&T to start taking Pre Order on 3/21

AT&T on Thursday officially announced its Galaxy S5 launch plans, revealing that the handset will be available for preorder starting on Friday, March 21st, for $199.99 with new two-year contracts, or $649.99 off-contract. The phone can be purchased with AT&T Next 18 or Next 12 plans for $25 or $32.50 per month, respectively. The carrier confirmed it will start shipping preorders in early April without committing to an actual date, and without saying when it will start selling the device in stores – Samsung has announced an April 11th launch date for its 2014 flagship handset.

S5 and the new Galaxy Gear on display in selected Best Buy across the US starting today. Might have to call around BB in my area to see if they have them so I can show my GF and test out Gear Fit.

WTF?!?!?! I finally got spammed with a meme! YES!!!!

95% of what goes on in this forum is based on pointless stories about iPads being returned 20 times, etc. Even your reply was pointless. This reply is pointless.

I actually have a bluetooth shower head... so you know, level up on your old ****** PC speakers there brah.

And the prize for the most over-used internet phrase is...

#1 "Blown out of the water" ?

#2 "Game changer" ?

#3 "This changes *everything*" ?

#4 "This is revolutionary" ?

#5 "This will change the way we <insert hyperbole here>" ?

I can see why you adopted #1, since the S4 looks rather like a surfboard...

User experience is everything, and without it, hardware figures are worth nothing at all. How often do you hear the average iPhone owner (read: the general public) comparing notes on cores and RAM, and "benchmark" scores? Google "thread safe iOS", and see why system architecture matters most.

I lol'd, but now I realise that you're serious... so I'll shut up and let you carry on with your aquatic comparisons and hype.

"This will change the way we blow things out of the water (and possibly proportion, too)"

I saw the S5 at the AT&T store today. It is a great phone and a worthy upgrade to the S4. The back looked and felt great in person. I didn't get the feeling when using it that it was larger than the S4, but I imagine that I'd be able to tell the difference in my pocket.

I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I absolutely love the update to the TouchWiz UI. Being flat makes it look much more modern, and I could actually use it and not only like it but maybe even prefer it to stock Android. Of course once I've actually used it for a few days I might change my mind, but that was how I felt when leaving the store.

I also looked at the HTC One M8 and wasn't impressed at all. Between the two I'd have no problem picking the S5 over it. I've been swearing that I wouldn't be interested in the S5 because of it's size, but I'm going to have a hard time not trading my iPhone 5S for it after seeing it in person.

Was it as fluid and fast as the One 2? My biggest concern is if TouchWiz still slows down the phone. Seems to me Sense is more fast and fluid.

Also, how good was the screen brightness at 100%? AMOLED displays are not that bright (S3 and S4) but they say this new S5 screen is 500 nits (more than the Nexus 5).

The first time I pressed the home button there was about a one second lag before it did anything, but it didn't do it again so I can't judge based only on that if it is any worse or better than the S4.

I put my iPhone 5S next to the S5 and I couldn't tell a difference in brightness. It was actually surprising because I'm so used to AMOLED screens being dimmer than an LCD. I also thought the colors looked good. Of course having it at home in my office lighting I'd be able to get a better look at it than just a few minutes in the store, but my first look left me with a positive impression.

The only concern I have is just how it will feel in my jeans pocket. I wasn't happy with the size of the Nexus 5, but I think it was more the shape than the size that caused me discomfort. I may end up waiting for the S5 Mini because of that concern. If it is 4.5 inch and 720p that would be about right for me I think.

If it's anything like the s3/s4 this lag is due to touchwiz waiting to see if you want to activate svoice, which involves pressing the home button twice. If you disable svoice you can reduce the lag. Not sure if this is the case with the s5.

Any truth to the GS5s coming to the Samsung stores inside Best Buys now?

I went to my local store and the Sammy reps looked at me like I was crazy.
