But with the HTC you make the image wobble parallax style. Nobody cares about capturing great detail and blowing images up ;):p

Yep - the 4mp Ultrapixel was vastly out gunned last year by the competition. This year that difference has become a vast gulf of a difference. 16-20mp vs 4 ....

If I had to buy a Z2, S5 or HTC One - i'd still likely go with the S5 despite my dislikes. Thankfully I don't have to buy - so I'm going to wait to see what Moto X 2, Lumia 1020 successor, Note 4 and iPhone 6 bring to the table (unless temptation gets the better of me).

Elsewhere you said you would never buy any of those 3, I forget the reason why for the S5 but I'm warming up the jacket just in case. :)

lol...

I said I never would because of the Knox and hardware warranty.

It really peeved me with the Note 3 especially as I tripped my Knox trigger when flashing an official rom within Kies which is not supposed to happen. Basically Samsung's own software voided my Samsung hardware warranty !!!

Further more how does anyone then prove them liable when something goes wrong with your device and you need it fixed and they turn you down because of the knox trigger. They will just say - well you must have rooted or flashed a third party rom - even if you didn't.

So yeah that was my main reasoning, and the fact that Knox is getting more embedded with a device meaning its now tied to the finger print scanner too - trip your Knox counter and say goodbye to your hardware warranty and you finger print scanner.

The more I think about it the more it puts me off - but then I look at those photos and think wow..... dilemma.

it was because of knox and touchwiz

Yep. Spot on :)

I am no Samsung fan boy, or hater. I am a smartphone agnostic, don't really care what brand I use. Over my years of Android phones, it's been pretty equal; HTC and Samsung, with one LG in there.

Anyways I went to my local ATT store today to see the new HTC One M8 in person. And the M8 is a beauty, but did not blow me away or anything. The screen looked a bit washed out average, and it had a bit of lag swiping around. Overall I thought the M8 was nice, but nothing to blow me away, and it felt too tall and heavy for just a 5" screen. Then the ATT sales lady said they had the S5 too. Which I wasn't even one bit interested in at all. After seeing the S5 release all over the web, I felt it looked like a ho-hum minor update to the S4, nothing worth my time. Boy was I wrong.

The S5 was GORGEOUS :D They had it in white, and that screen  Best smartphone screen I have ever seen. And the recent display reviews of the S5 also call it the best screen ever made for a smartphone, being the brightest ever manufactured, and deep colors, and more accurate whites finally. My face looked like a cartoon, with my jaw dropping down to the floor, I was that impressed with the screen.

Samsung Galaxy S5's screen dubbed 'the best performing smartphone display;

DisplayMate, who carried out its in-depth screen tests on the S5, S4 and Galaxy Note 3, dubbed the Galaxy S5 "the best performing smartphone display that we have ever tested."
http://www.displaymate.com/Galaxy_S5_ShootOut_1.htm

And then Touchwiz, which I am no fan of, and especially the way Samsung hasn't really changed it's style or theme for years now. Well the TW on the S5 is tons better, like much much better looking. The flat look and style of the new S5 TW is so much cooler looking, and the menu and notification widgets just look more modern, and matching current Android. Where as TW on the Note 3 and S4 look super outdated and old fashioned now. And there was zero lag on this S5 test unit, it was warp speed fast.

Oh yeah it's waterproof too, up to 6 feet deep submerged in water, and 100% dust proof. Waterproofing now seems like such a smart idea, I know Sony really started it, I just think every brand and type of Smartphone needs to be waterproofed, just seems like a no brainier for keeping your phone safe.

Overall I left the ATT store, meant to see the HTC One M8, and not even caring to see the S5. But I am drooling for the S5 now.

Damn.....this + those pictures posted by jamezr..... It does seem quite droolworthy.

Actually what this really makes me drool for though is the N4... I just don't think I can go smaller now that I'm used to the N2 screen.

Walked into my local AT&T store with the intention of doing an upgrade swap with my dads account. (I would buy the iPhone 5s and give him my 5) Just so happens they had the Samsung Galaxy S5 on display. I messed around with it and was blown away with the screen. It was vibrant, (colors popped) fluid and smooth with great detail. It also doesn't hurt that it's 5.1" inches. Was surprised that I was also able to type on it one handed..although not as easily as my iPhone 5 but still very doable.

Long story short I preordered a charcoal black Samsung Galaxy S5 and this coming from a guy who had every iPhone since 2007 except the 5s. I still have my upgrade eligibility intact so worse case scenario if I wind up getting frustrated with it (not used to the customization aspect of Samsung phones) or don't like it for whatever reason, I will upgrade to the iPhone 6 in a few months which will finally have a larger screen...it's not written in stone but it better. So I'm excited to mess around with the S5 and give it a shot. Wish me luck...any advice on easing the transition is welcome.

This is awesome.....better than the fingerprint functions on the IP5s

One of the most touted features of the Galaxy S5 is its fingerprint scanner, and the ability to use it for making PayPal payments, something which we exclusively confirmed before the device was officially announced. According to MIT’s Technology Review journal, the Galaxy S5 is the first smartphone to support this feature and goes beyond what Apple offers on the iPhone 5s - while Apple only supports making payments on its own content store after verifying a fingerprint, the S5 will be able to authorize payments at any website or store that supports PayPal payments. The feature is made possible due to the Galaxy S5 being certified for PayPal’s new FIDO-based fingerprint system, with Samsung’s flagship the first commercial product to do so.

Fingerprint scanners are expected to become a common feature of smartphones in the future, and Samsung is leading the charge in making secure online payments easier and quicker with the Galaxy S5. We’ll likely see the fingerprint sensor be present on the next Galaxy Note as well, and while Samsung did get inspired by Apple into using fingerprint recognition on its devices, it’s good see the Korean manufacturer went beyond what the Cupertino giant managed to achieve.

No one is the least bit concerned with the speaker for audio? Each one I checked at different stores all led me to being quiet disappointed! The phone vibrating in hand at 60% volume is ridiculous. And also tinny.

What look what turned up in benchmarks over at GFXBench. Saw it mentioned in this article posted over at Android Central. If this device is in fact released sometime in the next 6 months, any guess on how many upset new Galaxy S5 owners there will be? ;)

Ummm why? Because it has .1 more inches and slightly more PPI? I think people who buy the SG5 will be perfectly happy. ;)

I personally couldn't care less as long as voice sounds OK. Can't imagine anyone really listens to music through a phone speaker.

They don't sound like the M8 with 2 front facing speakers and large bezels to accommodate them. But all the reviews say they sound pretty good. In a large store (AT&T or BestBuy) the sound will get drowned out.

Why would anyone be upset? Vendors release new phones all the time. A 6 month release for new phones is pretty normal. Do you expect to buy a new phone and have it be the latest and greatest forever? It is guaranteed that a newer and better phone will be released shortly after you buy any phone......

No, because it would be a bigger spec bump over the S5 than the S5 is to the S4. Higher resolution, more RAM, new CPU and GPU--all only 6 months later.

A 6 month release cycle for upgrading the same device from the same manufacturer normal? No it's not, not even for someone as prolific at releasing devices as Samsung. The HTC One series, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S, iPhone, LG G series (formerly Optimus) and G Pro 2, Moto X (rumored to be replace late summer at earliest) all are on annual cycles to this point. Only exception for a flagship device I can think of off-hand is the Xperia Z2. When Apple released a revised iPad only 7-8 months after it's previous revision (iPad 3 to 4, I believe) and when HTC put out the One X+ 6 months after the One X, people were pi$$ed off.

Of course there are new devices released all the time, but not by the same manufacturer as an upgrade to existing device so quickly. But you are correct in that any furor would mostly be amongst the tech savvy. Regardless, if I had bought an S5 and saw this device come out 6 months later, I'd be pretty upset.

To be honest did anyone expected the S5 to be the only S5 samsung released this year ?

Said from the outset I expect an S5, an S5 mini, an S5a, an S5 active, an S5 Zoom ....

So really no surprise here. The S5 version unveiled already itself will be the best selling of all the variations with the others just filling smaller niche's.

How do you know that to be true? You don't.....there was a score from an unidentified phone with awesome specs found on the internet. So what? Is it the next Galaxy S5? How do you know that? You don't......... Do you think Samsung will only release one phone this year? No they won't...they will flood the market with different phones and different sizes. they also will release phone for specific markets and different regions of the world. Not all of their phones are meant for the US market. Some are targeted for Asia and Europe.
I have the S5 pre-ordered for AT&T...i will in no way be upset if Samsung releases another upgraded phone in 6 months. Six months is an ETERNITY in the mobile phone space.

Relax, notice all of this was prefaced with the work 'if'...'if' this device is released in 6 months, and 'if' it's positioned as an S5 replacement. If that happened and I'd purchased a S5, I'd be upset, all I'm saying, predominantly because the general precedent is one year between updates. Doesn't bother you, that's fine.

Oh I agree, but there's quite a significant variation between their devices in the past, mostly related to size. This device would fill the same size niche as the S5 with pretty significant hardware improvements.

Regardless, it's all rumors and speculation at this point--could be a very early prototype for next year for all we know. I was only addressing one possible scenario. Sorry to stir up such a hornet's nest...

No hornets nest as far as I'm concerned - and whilst the cynic in me is not surprised if the device appear as well as a raft of others - I do feel for those that want the best Samsung device and then find out 'the best' just got 'out bested' but another device only a few months later.

That being said the improved model may indeed be only available in limited territories - meaning the current S5 won't be usurped.

Yup, you're right, could very well be a regional upgrade. Didn't they do something similar to the S4 for the Korean market only last year--LTE Advanced and a CPU upgrade, or something like that?

Yes indeed, the US never saw the updated model leaving the lowly standard gs4 as top tier around here :p

Well, unless you want to import and don't care about LTE
