Anyone have the S5 yet?

I've had mine since Wednesday. I'm enjoying it so far.

A previous poster mentioned the charging door being a pain. It is a pain but thankfully they made the hinge on the door pretty flexible so it's quite easy to move out of the way. Unfortunately with the case I have on my phone it makes opening and closing the door a little more cumbersome.

----------

Couldn't resist.... Vodafone have them online to order today.

I have a white model ordered with a free galaxy fit and it's expected to arrive Monday :p :D

Will post impressions of both when they arrive.

White is a good color! Definitely please post your thoughts on the Fit. I'm still torn on if I want to pick one up or not.

Thanks. I'm a little concerned on the charging bay cover especially with cases. I'm curious to see how SGP is going to handle it.

My GF is ready for a new phone. Her iP4 is at it's last leg and won't last the year. It's looking like it's either going to be the S5 or iP6.

But you did :p

Also ordered a SGP Glas.t nano screen protector & Spigen Matte Case (blue) as ideally I would have bought the white front/blue back if it was available. At least in time those backs will make their way onto ebay.

Jeah sorry ;-)

Really looking forward to your review/opinions

Why is it so hard for people to understand... Of course you wouldn't notice any lag or stutter if you have no application running....

Test it in a real world stress test of having user apps open and running.

Open a selection of 9 or 10 random apps such as twitter / Facebook / s-planner / s-health / Google play music / watch-on / messages / s-note / Google+ & Samsung Gallery

Then flick back and forth between them and using the multitasking button (see if it has to reload any) and then jump into the app drawer and then through home screens and widget selection drawers, that's where if anywhere you will see if the device stutters under the weight with all the open applications.

Until you give it a dynamic usage test it won't be stressed to tell if it buckles. It will and should consistently remain smooth with no applications open..

Report back if peformance is effected with active applications running, that's the important thing we need to know....

It holds up surprising well at least during my trial at an AT&T store. I had about 10 apps opened and I just kept cycling through them. And isn't there some demo mode running as well?

IMHO, it isn't as snappy as the M8 BUT I really don't think folks will be disappointed if they open up exactly what I did in my trial. :)

The straight jacket didn't work, I'll figure out my next plan of action for your addiction. With me it is golf and audio equipment as well. You only live once though. :)

You have the 1520 for snapping, will you sell it?

No I'll likely keep the 1520 and sell the S4 GE. I only need 1 android phone, an S4 & S5 is a bit of a silly combo :)

People are lining up to buy the Galaxy S5!

guessing the gear fit is available today too.

I'm really tempted about the Gear Fit but with One Plus One announcement in a few weeks I'm not sure which route to go with. If OPO doesn't cut it then I'll most likely get the Note 4. But, knowing how I am about new gadgets I'll just get it and worry about the other stuff when it arises. :D

Today I held the S4, S5, and Note 3. It was the first time I've held the Note 3, and I thought it was the nicest feel in hand of the three phones. It's bigger than I'd want to carry, but I can see why people like it.

Between the S4 and the S5, I like the feel of the S4 better. I agree with the Ars review: The S4 feels like it is the newer of the two devices since it is smaller and slimmer.

I am excited, though, because I like the Samsung software now. Once the S5 Mini comes out I'll be happy.

Just used an S5 at AT&T for the first time. White model.

The good.

Screen is incredible. Proper whites. Finally. I purchased the S4 Active last year to avoid the S4's OLED panel. No more. This screen is up there with the best IPS displays.

Back cover definitely feels better than the S4 but it still isn't great IMO. Much prefer the feel of my N5. This cover feels less slippery/slimy over time compared to the S4, but it isn't a great feel in hand either. I think the Note 3 cover feels better.

The bad.

Grey edge around the edges feels meh and looks really ugly IMO on the front of the device. (More noticeable on the white model.)

There was a slightly delay when waking the phone compared to my N5. Very noticeable. Ditto when opening a folder containing apps.

TouchWiz is still fugly.

Prefer the lighter weight of the S4.

If forced to pick between this and the M8 I'd pick the S5. Still prefer my N5 to both. (Smaller, lighter, better in-hand feel, faster wake/folder open.)

That's how I feel about the M7 vs the M8.

First Impressions and pics

Just got the S5. First impression is it feels great in the hand. The back plate is not slippery and has a little texture to it. TW is more flatter...less intrusive. The phone is very fast with no lag or stutter at all.
Here are some pictures. Auto focus on with no editing. It is overcast here in AZ today so no sun. Including a picture i took with the M8 as well. I try to give more info later..... Still installing all my apps.....

Did you deactivate S-Voice from the home button? I know that helps with Home button delay.

No applications running and my S5 is at 1.34GB out of 1.81GB of RAM used. I'm not noticing any lag. /shrug

So out of 2GB RAM you only get 500MB free?

Ok. I guess that's good...

Did you use your upgrade to get it?

Does Vodafone allow to to return it if you don't like it and cancel the upgrade?

I'm asking because I'm with Vodafone too and I've heard they don't allow returning it once you get a phone, so I have to be very very sure which phone to get.

But the Galaxy Mini line has worse hardware always. I doubt it will have 2GB RAM and such. Maybe 720P display and 8Mpx camera?

That delay you mention is what I mean when I say TouchWiz is slower than other skins.

I hate hate hate that delay on my SGS3, mainly when waking the device! It takes up to 2 seconds to wake up the screen!:eek: imagine this every day. That's why I don't want another Samsung phone. I don't see this delay on the Nexus 5, Moto G, M8, iPhone, etc.

So sooooooo annoying! I hoped the S5 didn't had it!!:mad:

Wasn't a home button delay. I saw a delay hitting the side wake/power button.

On the S5 it isn't a 2 second delay when waking but it's noticeable slower than my N5. First I noticed it, then I compared both phones side-by-side to confirm.

How's the lag? Mat be too early to ask of as it tends to creep up over time.

:

Sadly I couldn't use my upgrade because the gear fit deal thing only applies to new connections, so I had to basically sign up for another number.... I'm still trying to justify it as "ill use it as a business number"....

And yes you are right Vodafones return policy is draconian.

Basically if you change your mind you have up to 14 days BUT the phone or accessory can not be opened. As soon as you open the package your screwed unless the phone is defective...

I just got the phone today and have been on it constantly installing app and getting ti setup the way I like it. NO LAG......whatsoever.....

ok, figured I ask. Have you tried disabling un-needed apps?
